I have had one for 3 weeks, and just passed the 600 mi break in. Positives, Enormous gobs of power that will wheelie this thing in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear if you want it to, TCS=Off, TCS=Mode 2 or 3 and it will keep that wheel planted for you. Very solid, inspired handling and nimble enough to flip around those curvy S-shaped roads with a smile on your face in 3rd or 4th. It revs to about 6.5 grand without issue; over that, it really is not giving you all that much more, so really, 7k is a fully usable limit on Revs. In A Mode, if you want it to, it will definitely try to separate you from the handlebars with raw pulling power. However, it is completely docile below 5k and ever so linear in power delivery that everyone can enjoy this motorcycle with ease regardless of skill level. Negatives: (just a few) The seat is very hard (not XSR900 hard, but close). After 30 mins on this, the inside of your legs, and butt wants a divorce from you. Actually painful after 40 mins (they apparently make a comfort seat for $299); they should have led with that cause this one sucks. 2nd, the low beam is effectively useless, and there is absolutely nowhere to mount another light set on this thing; the high beam is much better. Night-time driving, therefore, is compromised with oncoming traffic. Lastly, the fairing is mostly useless. Wind is still blasting you on the highway straight into the chest, as you might expect with that tiny windscreen. Seems like the windscreen is there for looks only. Again, there is apparently a manufacturer with one 3.75" taller (is that enough at 75? Probably not). But will try that solution anyway. It doesn't vibrate as much as Speed Twin, so I think that is a positive, but it is not as smooth as a 4-cylinder, either. So do I like it overall? Yes, I do; It was A LOT of bike for what it cost new @$9600 OTD Price (Sept 2024) with zero miles. It is really lots of fun and feels very strong and stable everywhere. Will I sell it? Yes, I will next summer, and on to a Z900RS (with an aftermarket windscreen) or perhaps FJR1200? I need better comfort so I can stay out on the road a little longer and keep the smiles coming.

The auto blipping is a bit light on the GSX 8 series quick shifters. And it does not give as smooth a shift if revs are constant. There are times to use the clutch. However for everyday riding with early upshifts it is as smooth as butter. Also down one gear at a time, even with a big jump. I had a 2020 Street Triple R and the quick shifter needed a serious nudge to change up. Way more that the Suzuki.

I think they should complete the line like Kawasaki did with the 650 twin and make a cruiser. Same engine, 4 bikes. And this makes perfect power to be a legitimate long hauler. Just change the rear sub frame and pedal placement etc. I am sure it would sell.

It's interesting how the QS up/down isn't functioning very well in the down blip, because the GSX-S1000 has been said by many to be the most slick precise and flexible QS system on the market. Suzuki might have invested more money into the 1000cc platform in that device. Who knows.

Transportation bureaucracy compliance. Every fender has to have something reaching the zone of the back of the rear tire, if you drew a straight line from the ground, tangent to the back of the tire straight up, a fender has to touch that line. It's not the manufacturer's rules, that's the rules for selling into a transportation market.

If I were in the market for a new bike the Suzuki GSX-8 R or S would be the way to go: Usable power, a realistic powerband for road use and obviously a competently made - albeit un-adjustable - suspension setup. Big singles and Triumph triples ruined high-revving bikes for me - my DR peaks out around 7k, as does my Moto Guzzi Griso 1100 and revving a bike out to 13k or more feels like ruining it. Some years ago I sold a perfectly running Street Triple R for that reason and got myself a Daytona 955i instead - until I realized, that 147 BHP are way too much for public roads, my understanding of a "fast" ride and life expectancy of both rider and driving license. Bikes with good suspension and sufficient torque must be ridden smoothly, keeping up the momentum. They require a good rider to go fast, but let all others survive the ride. Apart from very few really capable roadracers those 200+ HP-bikes are often crutches for riders of limited abilities.

At 455lbs, it's heavier than most (if not all) 1000cc liter bikes sold today. Calling this a middleweight sportbike is doing it a disservice. Troy doesn't often qualify what he means by using statements like this. The engine has twin counterbalance shafts = inertia. The engine has a generally longer stroke, heavier crankshaft counterweights = inertia. It takes a little bit of energy to move weight when you rev. So what was Suzuki thinking with that? It's supposed to feel different than an inline-4 which needs 13,000 rpm to move. It's going to feel very grunty and shove you at 5-6k rpm. You won't be dancing all over the shifter, needing to do 120 mph to have fun.
