As I wrote above (?) I tested one for an hour last week and I loved it. Bloody epic. I had a CBR100RR before and I much preferred this. Not as fast on the top end and not as mental but so much more fun. The modes are great and are very quick and easy to select. I'd literally have ordered one on the spot if I'd had the cash. As it is I'll have to wait until next year. If you can afford it, and you're not a "superbike" fanatic buy one, you wont regret it.

Its almost like MCN read our comments down here and improved on their videos. Everyone complained of too much time with fly by shots of the bikes, and now they are gone! Its just pure information now. More than camera angles and the cosmetics, there is so much more information, I'm just loving it!

Fantastic quality video MCN, the use of the cameras, sound and music were all top notch in my opinion. Michael Neaves and Michael Guy are the best two testers on youtube. Period. Please keep up the informative and fun to watch videos!

Thanks! A very fair review. It was good to see it compared off road. An earlier review skipped the off road riding. I knew the wheel size was going to be a problem. 17 inch is too small for some rougher dirt roads. The weak point on most videos here in youtube land and from you as well is sound. Here you've done a much better job than most of your other videos.

Normally i do not prefer MCN videos- when they only talk and you hear not the sound of the bikes. But here it was now a really good informative video - it was senseful explained why and what .. good commented. I liked it.

Not sure if you check these comments anymore. I’ve had every iteration of the MTS... i recently went back to the 2010 S version in black. I picked one up with 800 miles for nothing.. i gotta say- if you like sportier riding this is the best version to me.. the 1260 is so much longer, doesn’t do as well in dirt- i live in the mountains. I get why they catered to the touring section in the world.. but for real world fun and sports bike feel and touring this is the best model to me.. thoughts across the pond?

This is about the sixth review i have seen that favours the Ducati over the BMW. I live in Cambodia + Vietnam, and have ridden the BMW and the Triumph, but not the other two. I suppose my heart goes to the BMW, it seemed to cover all the bases better - including the shaft drive which (I think) is superior in sand/dirt/underwater and loose flying rocks - and i like the off road/deep water/loose rocks, practicality of the 21" front wheel.

I test rode one last week. Changing mode takes about 5 seconds, tops. And tbh you don't have to buy a bike with all the gizmos. All the modes are pretty cool and there are big differences between them.

I sure wish the Ducati had a bit bigger ergonomics! I am 6"4" with a 34" inseam. I test drove the Multistrada last week - what a complete riot to ride! However, it is just a little cramped for someone my size... You'd think if Ducati wanted to compete directly with the R1200GS they would have considered this a bit more...

@daedalx I agree, i like the idea of traction control and ABS for when things go wrong to save you from a crash, but i don't think that they should be relied on. I just use emergency braking drills and its never failed me before

@TheYellowZub it's not just the price.. servicing is really expensive, and if you don't keep it serviced on time, regardless of milage, they won't honour any warranty work. My mate fell foul of this with his 1098.... the ECU blew 2 weeks out of warranty and cos he hadn't had it serviced after 1 year (with about 1800 miles on it) they told him to sling his hook. but the do look awsome

Hi I'm looking for some advice. I am a relatively novice motorcyclist. I currently commute 20 miles per day on B roads to get to work on a piaggio MP3 500cc. I am looking to do my direct access to get my full licence and then i am looking for a bike to to commute from whitstable (Kent) to central London, 3 days a week. I tried this on my MP3 and it felt underpowered for the job. My budget could stretch to a 2008-2010 bmw 1200 gs or a 2010-2013 multistrada 1200. Do you think these bikes would be suitable for someone with my experience and which do you think would be best choice. Thanks guy

I don't agree with the woman sitting 2-up...the Multistrada was way uncomfortable for me and the Tiger was great. The grip bars on the Multistrada are made for someone with no hips or butt!! Additionally, the seat height on the Multi was a lot lower than the Tiger, which meant I couldn't see over the shoulder of the driver on it. I liked the Tiger much better.

The Ducati may be a great bike, but it really isn't a true on-road/off-road (dual-purpose) bike like the BMW or KTM....it's really just a slightly more clever road bike that would probably best suit many of the 'never-take-it-off-the-road-anyway' BMW owners. If you want a bike that will truely take you off-road adventuring, as well cruise you comfortably along the highways that get you there, my vote still goes to the GS.

@snabbeltax Yeah, I was surprised to hear that on the video heheh. Only Ducati to be more expensive than the BMW. It's typical for the poser crowd these days, adventure bikes are the new hype. They see a 2 day trip around their home country as an adventure. While on the whole trip they might did some gravel on a parking lot and had where scared to death. Chance is they never seen a deep rut in their whole life. If they get a flat tire they pickup their Iphones and call a nearby dealer to solve it.
