For someone who struggles with depression and anxiety, riding has been the most amazing thing that's somehow allowed me to find a way to do something that fully engages me physically and also mentally in a way that let's me just shut off those parts of my brain I'm fighting and just be in a moment without my own mind yelling at me. My favorite moments have to be seeing little kids staring at you in awe and the smiles that they have after giving them a wave or rev, it's truly an incredible moment seeing that joy and wonder they have.

I'm 61 and I'm finally on two wheels, I've somehow made it this far after a couple battles with cancer as well as a few other deadly illnesses. I retired last year and after getting my licenses and completing the Learning Curves Motorcycle Course this summer I have already put over 5,000 klms on my Mechanical Steed . Two days ago my throttle cable snapped on the hwy but I made it home to Hamilton down the backroads at 10 klms per hour . Lolol. My first ride was 55 years ago sitting behind my Uncle Dana when he picked me up from school , I had to wait 55 years to finally ride my own , it would take days for me to say why I love riding but I'm old and I don't have the time left to explain so get on a bike and feel the feelings yourself to understand. Remember to always do your best to keep the dirty side down .

My favorite memory on my Vitpilen actually just happened a few weeks ago. I was riding back home on a nice twisty back road with my dad on his bike in front of me, we came up out of the woods to a high ridge right as a sun beam shot out of a cloud right on us. Time seemed to stop in a way I had never experienced before. Just a glorious introspective moment where everything else in life melted away.

Hello fellow Vitpilen rider! The time stopping aspect is overwhelmingly beautiful about riding. I had an awesome experience like that during a "race" with a crop duster in the middle of nowhere. Riding 110mph down a flat country road and seeing the clouds part in just the right way changes you.

I got into riding at the age of 33, just randomly one day started looking at videos of motorcycling, might have been randomly recommended by KZbin as well, don't remember exactly. I had just bought a house, got garage space and got my license. Motorcycling has helped me with my anxiety and depression as when I meet another rider, I do not have to be afraid to talk to them as I know there is at least one thing I can talk about with them. Now 2 years later, I own 2 bikes, one is brand new (few months old) and another one is 2004 Yamaha TDM 900. The TDM is a project bike, I'v taken the engine apart and fixed it up with very little mechanical experience with engines and learning more every day. Best therapy I'v had, no money to buy drugs or alcohol anymore :) Best memory was when I was still in motorcycle school (I live in Europe, so we have to attend schools) and the first time we where out in traffic and I got my first biker wave, I can not explain how awesome that felt. Now I wave to all the riders, especially new riders in school, and I don't really care if I get a wave back.

I relate to Spite's reasons for riding. Zipping around the city on the cheap. Buying bikes with specific purposes and uses in mind. Just got my motorcycle license and first bike in the last couple of months, and I plan to keep using this as a real mode of personal transport. If I'm only hauling myself around (no large stuff or other people or children or anything), then riding is perfect. I've been a pedestrian and public transit user for ages, and I noticed that riding keeps me connected to the world in a familiar way when I'm stopped. I have my foot down on the asphalt to balance myself, and it's the same asphalt that I've been putting my feet on for decades as a pedestrian. And then it's time to roll again, and I'm on, like, the minimum requirements for a personal transport machine. An engine is driving a wheel, those are both attached to the same frame so that they can keep doing their work as everything rolls forward, and I'm on top of the frame, so I come along for the beautiful ride of physics. It's elegantly simple, in concept. But actually, I first really fell in love with the powered ride specifically during the summer of 2020, during COVID-19 lockdowns. I decided one day to take a bit of a test ride on an urban shared electric moped scooter, since we have those here. It had a low top speed by design. But still, I felt the wind of the ride and saw how the road looked from this perspective and went, "I need one of these for myself, and I need enough power to go on roads with higher speed limits." And so, this year, in 2021, I did that. I mean, I got a loan of a few grand and bought an actual, not-speed-limited motorcycle, and not a scooter so small that I wouldn't even need the license. I achieved the concept of license to ride and owning a powered ride that can handle the faster roads.

Great video. I’ve ridden off and on for years. You get to a point where you’ve had so many close calls, felt that endorphin sweat flash, and yet keep the bike and yourself in complete control that you can stay calm in all kinds of emergencies. I work in a hospital now, and I can calmly razor focus on the emergency in front of me. Riding taught me to do that. There’s joy and focus. More people need to ride. It helps in surprising ways.

The biggest surprise I had in riding was probably seeing how big things actually are. Roads are massive, the buildings and big and there are so many nooks and crannies that you can go through. I go to school in San Francisco and that means lane splitting is legal. The second day I got my bike, I tried lane splitting. Traffic in SF is pretty packed, its just a sea of cars and everything felt so overwhelming, it was really scary. When I did it again the next day, it was completely different. You think that being on a small bike surrounded by big cars would make you feel weak. But I felt, and still feel, that on a bike I have the power to do anything, even if ai’m just riding a small ninja 300

It’s definitely my favorite way to relieve stress besides sleeping. I’ve always had a love for racing and going fast. But lately I have gotten away from the car world. I’ve matured a ton as a rider over the last 7 years and do stupid things way less. Now I have a 2021 MT-09 and it’s the fastest bike I’ve ever owned and while I do ring it out occasionally. I actually ride it at safe speeds 95% of the time. I’m a carve up a twisty road rider. That’s how I get the adrenaline rush out of my system. I love knowing that my $9k bike would just dog walk almost any car up to 100mph and I don’t have to wait in traffic either. It’s impossible for me to believe cars are better anymore. They can hit 200mph but on the road from point a to point b. Even a slow bike is faster than a Lamborghini
@Maidenintime862 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I 100% agree with you, I'm slightly going away from cars too and these days I find myself way more into motorcycles, I'm starting to think that cars are a bit unnecessary and useless, in the real world the reason why someone needs a car is to get from point A to point B but in today's big cities, you can't go anywhere, that's where the bikes come in, the fastest way around a city by far, and as you said, most motorcycles can smoke most cars in acceleration, cars are for those who wanna show off and flex with their money, I don't give a crap about that, and for those who say that motorcycles are boring, we can leave them to dust while paying 10x less, most people get a car for status.

Riding for me. Growing up and for a majority of my life I had some self esteem issues but when it comes to riding, to get better, you need to be confident in your own ability. Especially so in slow maneuvers. You have to be confident you won't drop the bike, you have to believe in yourself and go for it. This "necessary" confidence in myself has grown beyond the bike and I'm happy with who I am and wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm sadly limited on where and what types of roads i can take due to my bike (Duke 390), but I'm absolutely in love with it. the first time I hopped on this bike I didn't have a license, no equipment, nothing. but I road it around my neighborhood and the most fun I've ever had in a very long time, even though I was just going about 20 MPH at most. but just something about feeling that wind on your face, vibration of the motorcycle and the acceleration from the throttle for anything was just a super incredible experience. Everything I've done from squiding around flying through traffic at speeds i should definitely not be doing, to practicing wheelies and finally achieving my first wheelie and then freaking out and mashing the rear break and smashing the jewels on the tank, as well as going into the mountains and just breathing in the fresh mountain air as I'm ripping around corners. Even close calls that i got myself into or someone in a car not paying attention its all just an incredible experience that i could never have any where else. Just the level of freedom and adrenaline from riding is something that will keep me riding for as long as my body will allow me too. I recently got my friend to finally hop on a motorcycle for the first time in a very long time. And his reaction to getting the bike moving without stalling up to now I can tell he felt the same way I did when I first started riding. He now asks if he can take the bike out for whatever reason and it just makes me smile knowing that I got a close friend of mine to experience something as amazing as riding a motorcycle If I could do the same thing Yammie and the crew does i would 100%.

My dad's been riding motorcylces since he was 14. Old English bikes. I remember waiting at the bottom of the driveway for him to come home, so I could ride with him for the last few metres up to our house. An old BSA A65 from 1963. I spent a looooong time not riding, but then the nostalgia hit me. After a few hours trying out my friends newish Bonnie my cheeks were sore from griining and I just KNEW I had to get my license and my own bike ASAP. The old BSA still runs, but even with a few years of experience I'm still not allowed to ride it. Life goals?

My first memory on a motorcycle was my grandfather taking me to kindergarten. I have loved motorcycles since then and finally got one after he passed away.

I never realised why I felt so calm and at home on 2 wheels compared to a car. I'm always at the edge of my seat, sweating in a car if I'm in traffic, but put me on 2 wheels and I am right at home. When Whitney was talking about how a bike is the best place for someone with anxiety, I immediately understood what she was talking about. I was thinking about this today on my 350Km ride from my home town to the place I work. Thanks for the video. Will definitely come back to this

What really made me love bikes the most was riding with my brother. He left for the military right out of highschool and deployed so after I graduated I got a bike and rode with friends and ten years later my bro got stationed in our home town and my first time getting to ride or spend time with my brother for over ten years and was and still is the best time riding

My first memory was burning my hand on my grandfather's bike exhaust. Fell in love ever since then. Jk although it's a true story lol, but I fell in love after feeling the freedom from it all, I could see everything compared to a car. I felt the rush of the wind, I could hear the motor working, and it's just you on there, unless you have a passenger. But that time of loneliness was very peaceful. It was like walking through nature in a way.

Hey everyone, Great video!!!! I was born into motorcycling...my grandfather, grandmother, dad & uncle all rode. The first bike I was on was my grandfather's 1936 EL Harley Davidson aka first year "Knucklehead"! At present time I have 5 motorcycles...3 run and 2 are projects. I'll be a motorcyclist for life!!!! I started riding at age 4 and am 59 now and the addiction is stronger than ever!!!! I believe to get a driver's license for a car everyone should have to have a motorcycle license for at least two years first!!! Keep the rubber side down!!

Good vid, my son's dipping his toes atm and have paid for a brief intro course and now working on some round the block and parking lot stuff with no judgement but this made me remember my incentives to get back in.... Even with the early 70s no clutch bike and first ever stitches experience

I've only just started riding over a year ago. Always loved bikes and that came from my granddad. He held a drag record at Phillip Island on a Vincent in the late 1920's. That is so awesome to say! I watched Australian superbike with him, watching Wayne Gardner race, then him winning the 500CC championship. When he died in 1990, I kept watching but never got riding. My mum passed away a few years ago and the stories she told me of growing up Harley's and stories of pre war Indian's died. So I figured I'd create my own stories and got myself a 500CC Rebel. My first day with it, I rode it 4 kilometres and parked it. The next day I had to go out and just ride and I haven't stopped. Love nice rides through the countryside and my Rebel is great for it.

Riding is meditation in motion. Many new bikes have tech that allows you to connect your phone to the dash, but I don't want that. The world, and it's issues, sort of goes away when on two wheels. You, the sound, the machine, the road. In the moment. The track is all of that amplified. I work a very stressful job, and when I can ride, it's a time to get away. It's more special than most people will ever know.

My friends tried for years to get me to ride and I was always too intimidated by it. But now I own an Indian Scout Sixty and it changed my life for the better. Yes, it’s my first bike. I was so afraid the first time I rode it in a parking lot but after I took it out for real I was hooked.

When I got my bike it was a total impulse buy, I’ve always wanted one but never would do it. I was going through the end of a marriage dealing with a number of mental issues and once I started riding it everything changed. It didn’t make it go away but it makes a special place for my soul that I didn’t have before

I have not learnt abide yet but the first memory of me riding a Scooter was one of the best moments of my life. We were on vacation and I got out of our room at 2am and tried to start up the scooter as an amateur (I struggled). After 20 odd minutes I finally got it started and then head out to see the city at night and seeing the moon on top with the trees passing me by was a memory implanted in my brain. I finally found an open restaurant and got to have some shrimp and coffee. It definitely has made me wanna buy a bike soon!
