Thanks so much for all the effort and help you have put in to this very detailed and very nice presentation.. I am now revisiting my '81 BMW R100T as it was getting on in years and I thought it prudent to clean and check all connections, so I pulled out the board and cleaned and treated with corrosion proof electrical spray. Now its time at last to reinstall the board and reconnect everything. Many Thanks👍🙏

Thank you for this overview. I have a 1981 R100RT that suffered an electrical fire last fall. I'm just now have some time to dig in. The main harness has issues as the ignition circuit went over current and melted more than just the ignition wiring but some adjacent wires.

Very helpful! I just picked up an 81 R100 and the Headlight and dash lights go out when bike runs, on when ignition is in Parking. I hope it's just something loose or corrosion and not a failed relay. Thanks!

Really informative video again, there is certainly a lot of wires in that head lamp(spaghetti junction). Well done and thanks 👍

Thank you so much for your videos. they are very clear and reassuring. I am about to replace the wiring Harness. so I have one question: Is it any use to remove the board, pass the wires in the headlicht, then do the connections at the board while holding it somewhere near the opening , arrange it more convenintly and then attach the board at the back? Thanks in advance
@BrooksAirheadGarage2 жыл бұрын
Athiridis, I found it easy to attach the spades to the terminals on the board when it was mounted in the headlight shell. But go ahead and try your idea and see how it goes.

Hi mate I have a request, I know that you say the wires for the board are colour coded, having followed that rule I still cannot get thr bike to start can you do a step by step connecting each terminal individually to the board please, many thanks luke

I suspect you have a problem with your starter relay

Thank you very helpful. I have a question when i put headlight back in bucket i am getting a very small battery drain. Very small but enough to drain battery over a couple of weeks. No drain with it out have you seen this before? Thanks Steve
@BrooksAirheadGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, No, I've not seen that problem. That said, the clock is always on, should yours be installed, I suppose it could drain the battery, but I wouldn't expect that to occur in just a couple weeks. Since the headlight relay gets a red wire direct from the battery, it suggests the relay maybe draining the battery in some way. I don't know if any of that is helpful.

@@stephensweeny3995 There is some difference in the wiring, but it too has a red wire to the headlight relay.

I have problem with my Ignition (it’s not an original one). When i turn it on (meaning: when the red wire meets the green wire), the wire gets hot and then melts. Could you explain that?
@BrooksAirheadGarage3 жыл бұрын
Ervien, If wires melt, there is a short-circuit somewhere in the wiring.
@ervienjubrihardjo40323 жыл бұрын
Is it possible that it happens because the wire is too thin?
@BrooksAirheadGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@ervienjubrihardjo4032 I suppose that's possible. The original ignition switch uses 1.5 mm^2 diameter wire for the RED and GREEN wires. Have the original RED & GREEN wires to the ignition switch been replaced? If so, that would require soldering the replacement wires onto the existing wires in the main wire harness. If the insulation, or tape, around the solder connection failed and either wire gets grounded, that could create a short circuit.
@ervienjubrihardjo40323 жыл бұрын
@@BrooksAirheadGarage I tried to replace the wires but it didn’t work. I found ground (“-“ current) at the start relay’s foot number 86. As i turn the engine cut on, it turns into “+” current. Is that normal? I suppose this is the cause
@BrooksAirheadGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@ervienjubrihardjo4032 With the ignition off, or the kill switch off, terminal (86) has no power. When the ignition is on and the kill switch is on, it has power. That is normal.
@stephenwilliams18244 жыл бұрын
Once you have removed these terminal connections a few times, it becomes a PITA to sort the routing and reconnections then, install the headlamp securely. Has anyone relocated any connections to outside the lamp into a waterproof fuse box?

@@BrooksAirheadGarage firts.... sorry for my English. I'm working very hard in my R100 RT 1980. I had a fire in my garage. The bike lost a lot of part more than the hot than the fire and she looks all black. I had to clean, polish, I used sand presure to clean wheels, paint and manually clean and polish a lot of thinks. Polish nut and paint with clear etc. Really a work for a retired person like me... I'm the owner of this bike since 1989 and I love it. I had to change all control cables, and switches of the handlebar, seat, tires, lights... long list. Today I was looking your video until 1 am because the turn ligths works only and one side (still have to check the lamp jaja) but on one side I feel the click click in the relay and not in the another?? I have to earn courage and return to try to fix the problem. My doubt is if I did a mistake at the time that change the handlebar switches.... the rest is working that is a good notice.... Thanks a lot for your videos they are very usefulness. I have to watch more of your videos for example to set the carburettors. Thanks again, Saludos, Marcelo Sabalette
