The "Caballo Blanco" that the family in the cave mentioned was an American barefoot ultrarunner, Micah True, featured in the book, "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, who reasearched the Tarahumara runners and showcased their incredible endurance and running ability in simple huarache sandals. Micah True lived for a time among the Tarahumara in Copper Canyon, and was beloved by them and became a mythic figure in the ultrarunning world, not for his speed but for his simple life philosophy. He organized ultraruns in Copper Canyon and invited some of the greatest ultrarunners in the world to come and compete against the Tarahumara. He passed away in 2012 on a run in the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico.

I got to visit Copper Canyon in the 1980’s. Only way in was by train. We spent the night on the edge of the canyon in a very rustic lodge and the Tarahumara sold handmade goods at the railroad stop. They put on a demonstration of their skills by running barefoot kicking a rock racing down the edge of the canyon. The women would wear traditional costumes consisting of multi layered skirts. The lived in caves during the summer around the canyon rim and migrated down to the bottom during the winter. They refused to become assimilated into the Mexican culture. Somehow one of the Tarahumara women somehow got to Kansas and was put in a Topeka mental institution as no one could understand her until someone discovered and she was taken back to the canyon. Amazing memories of my time in Chihuahua Mexico.

''Tan cool '' 😄 Spoken like a native almost , on the cool spring ride into Creel along the back way . Great stuff . The Copper Canyon considered properly as the system of canyons which it is , is actually more extensive than the Grand Canyon system of the USA .The paved road at the Guachochi intersection passed within 13km of the southern branch Sinforosa canyon and the highway at the Urique River and at other points towards Creel is actually down within a section of " canyon" . The greatest difference is that the Mexican Copper Canyons region receives more rain than the Grand Canyon and is therefor is much more vegetated and green in summer's "monsoon season ".

It's the area about where you were at, it's called the "Golden Triangle" because the states of Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa meet... Also home to Sinaloa Cartel and El Chapo... For incredible as it may sound, you are NOT likely to be mugged or kidnapped, the cartel prohibits these kind of activities and, in fact, it sanctions (punish) them. You are safer on these roads as you had ever been since you crossed Mexico's south border. My concern was you trying to cross through Caborca, Sonora but Baja was a smart choice. May God be with you all the way to Alaska.

I appreciate your insight, but I’m confused by the graffiti on that abandoned building by the road: deragotory drawings of four naked women with a man pointing a rifle at one woman, and the word “Sinaloa”. I understand that deragotory graffiti do not represent the hearts and minds of most inhabitants of a particular area, but such graffiti would indicate that acts of violence are not off limits, cartel or not. I’m glad Noraly is long gone from that area by now, and also hope for the best for the kind and people beautiful of Mexico.

You’re no more safe walking on the streets of some major city at night, the cartels have indeed major influence in these areas but unlike what the propaganda says(because obviously they don’t want you to come here to spend your hard earned dollars) they are no harm to tourists or ordinary people SPECIALLY IF THEY ARE FOREIGNERS, in these places people live their lives, work, send their kids to school, trade, etc. even cabins for rent to tourists, and the cartels don’t bother them, in fact, I heard they don’t like robbers or people that commit crimes and they punish them, even brutally, with all due respect, in these places you don’t hear about kids opening fir@ against their classmates, or look what just happened in Kansas City. If Noralys hadn’t announce her arrival, what cartels would have done is stopped her, ask her some questions, and don’t bother her again, and make no mistake she didn’t went unnoticed by them, but still, nothing happened to her. If you don’t have anything to do with the “business” and you mind your own business there will be little to worry about. As Mexican living in a city close to the hotspot of c@rtels I travel to the forests with my cousins to rent cabins every year.

As you know, tracks made in the desert do not go away for at least a century. The delicate soil surface crust is held together by microscopic blue green algae assemblages (called cryptogramic crust), which (over time) add nitrogen to the soil, making it capable of supporting plant life. The few species of plants that live in remote deserts survive under conditions that would kill most plants and often involve symbiotic relationships between species that evolve over time. So...new tracks made in the desert can be destructive for the environment and it's a good idea to try to stick to already existing tracks. My Dear Noraly, you touched on the issue of your safety a couple of episodes ago. Having a blond blue eyed daughter 18 months older than yourself, I have been concerned for your safety all along. As you get toward the northern parts of Mexico this issue intensifies. I LOVE your channel, yet your safety is paramount to me and I'm sure all us itchy booters. I am glad (I don't know what yet) to know you have made arrangements to keep yourself safe. Your camera work, commentary, and editing are OUTSTANDING as usual. Your SAFETY FIRST, and thank you for the ride. Bob, Nevada, U.S.A.

Appreciate you displaying the scenery of Chihuahua and this trail. I’m Mexican American and my family came from chihuahua so I already find myself watching videos to learn my about Mexico/culture and where I’m from. Wish you the safest endeavors!! Love the entire landscape and the people you talked to in the cave, sweet part of it. Wish indigenous Mexicans live in better circumstances but a family together can make a home anywhere

Once again, your research into the areas you travel through and the people you meet brings the extra touch to a video showing the beautiful mountains and rock formations. Great work. Safe further travels.

Thanks for showing me Mexico and the other countries of Central America, I would have never seen them otherwise. Actually, many people that live there feel the same way because of the vastness and a lot of the roads are only accessible by your motorbike 'Alaska' and the like vehicles. Many thanks, I appreciate it.

But I'm worried about the security situation. Watching videos like this makes me glad people from other parts of the world take an interest not only in the united states but the whole of Latin America. Mexico especially. Cheers!

Noraly has a penchant for finding roads less traveled. Thank you for showing us a world not normally seen. You will find that people who live in desert areas will wear more colorful clothes. It’s incredible that someone can run 270km at a trot.

Thank you Noraly for sharing your adventures with us. As I look at this particular video, I'm reminded of just how insignificant the length of a human life is. Those rock formations, for example, have been there for thousands and thousands of years. They were there before US and will be there long after US. For any person or entity to think that it belongs to "them" is absurdity at it's finest. This is God's creation for ALL to enjoy. Wishing you continued safe travels!
