This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Land Rover fender V8!
There are plenty of Land Rover Defenders to choose from the two door, Defender 90, four door Defender 110 and the larger Defender 130. We have the Defender 110 with the V8 powertrain. It has a supercharged 5L V8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD.
This Land Rover Defender SUV comes with electronic air suspension, electronic active differential, Terrain Response 2, all-terrain progress control which is a low speed cruise control feature requiring no pedal inputs from the driver and advanced tow assist.
The lightweight Land Rover Defender chassis has been engineered and tested to the extreme around the world with more than 73,000 trails across 2.4 million miles. The carrying load allows for 370 pounds for all your gear and the static load up to 661 pounds.
The Land Rover Defender offers a modern, rugged and boxy design with a raised hood and a sculpted grille. It offers 8.5 to 11.5” of ground clearance with a wading depth of 35.4”. Our test model is riding on 22” wheels and comes standard with dark exterior accents, body-coloured door handles, quad exhaust pipes, LED headlights, fog lights and V8 badging.
The interior of the Land Rover Defender is coated with a highly durable powder coat to ensure the interior is just a durable as the exterior. The Defender has a bit of a rugged interior mixed with luxury materials like Windsor leather. There’s plenty of storage throughout the vehicle including a cooler in the centre console storage box. The Defender comes standard with an 11.4” touchscreen and offers a clean and intuitive interior design with volume and climate knobs.
Fuel economy is rated at 16.4L/100 km, 14 MPG city and 12.7L/100 km, 18 MPG highway.
The Land Rover Defender V8 starts at $133,200 CAD/$111,500 USD.

I have had loads of Land Rover products over the last 50 years. current D4 has over 270.000km and has yet to need even a light bulb, Range Rover has 100000km and no faults. People seem to want problems in a Land Rover, why? Don’t keep peddling the same old nonsense. Two worst cars I have owned? Toyota Land Cruiser- broke down on the dealers forecourt for the first time! and didn’t even make it home! 2nd worst was a Mercedes 300 SL ! Every vehicle has bad ones that break down. Just stop always knocking Land Rover

You really are in a party of like, 5. The stories are awful, I had a brand new lr4 for a year, one year less than 23 k miles and it had coolant issues from about 3k miles and after a year and just at 23k miles it needed a new head for the block?????😮😮😮😮 yeah. You got out good I’m really happy for you but it just isn’t the normal experience.

You two have a really high quality "grown-up" car show that doesn't rely on any gimmicks or poor attempts to emulate Top Gear, and 300k subscribers are proof that you still got it, Zack. I own a 23 Defender 90 V8 and absolutely love it. I had the oil light issue intermittently , but it turned out to not be an issue. In fact it really does not need oil and if you put any in you risk overfilling it. Mine stopped giving me the notice once I got around 700 miles. I took it to Land Rover and there was nothing wrong with it and the oil level was all good. The issue just fixed itself, maybe a breaking in quirk, funny to see it happen on another V8. I previously owned a 21 G63 and I have to say I enjoy the Defender a bit more. This is my 3rd Land Rover and nothing quite drives like one. I think the 5.0 V8 might even sound a bit better than the G63, it has more character overall. The Defender is a ton of fun and a definitely in the top of all the vehicles I have owned.

So many negative comments on here. I wonder how many of the experts on here have owned one of these? I have a defender and my wife a Disco. I’ve owned 5 land rovers, and, with the exception of the Freelander (lr2), all are quite amazing. The defender is the best of the lot. Built like a tank, fast, great on and off road. A couple of people I work with have Range Rover Sport models and both have had a few smaller issues (haven't heard about coolant or oil issues). A new vehicle needing coolant or oil so much would worry me about head gasket issues (assuming there are no puddles under it showing an exterior leak). I get that it's a status symbol and is really nice inside, but for me, I couldn't handle spending that kind of money and have such problems, especially when you can buy a $30,000 Toyota Corolla and put 500,000 kms on it with minimal problems. If I wanted a high(er) end vehicle like this, I'd get the new Lexus GX.

It is giving me 19.9mpg which I like compared to my 2017 GLS550 which had the height and standing if not the panache of …say an Autobiography, but such as it is, I liked the lower profile. Despite whatever, I would still consider a Defender, but no complaints at all about my GLE53.

At 6:45 - the volume knob is conveniently closer to the passenger while the driver uses the easy to use steering wheel controls. The shifter is a convenient perch for the hand when using the touch screen. BTW - the RHD version flips the center console controls to allow the same. The Defender is legit. Rugged inside and out. You can be filthy from hikes, hop in, dogs too, deep clean the interior with lots of water and not worry about harming anything. Regular over the air software updates have been seamless. Not sure if I believe the JLR service tech skit claiming 36 month warranty @ 13:20. The reality is the warranty is 48 months, 50K miles bumper to bumper. 6 year corrosion. Ours is 23K miles old. No issues other than want to enjoy more off road time :)

I like that you review everyday vehicles as well as the more premium and exotic ones for good measure - the Defender V8 being no exception! In terms of enthusiast cars, (CTR, ITR, M2, CT4-BW, ZL1 etc ), what would you say would be the one most likely to hold it's value, given that a lot of these vehicles are selling significantly over MRSP? Thanks!

I'm a Land Rover fan. I've driven nothing but LR since 2003, but this is the most pointless car they've produced. It is more expensive than the RRS SVR, less powerful, less capable on road, and nowhere near as capable off road as a base model Defender, with smaller wheels and bigger sidewalls on the tyres (tires). If you want something that sounds good, buy an SVR (if there's any left), with 575 bhp - it's cheaper. I own an SVR, it's my second, and it is a lot easier for my partner, who is 5' 5", to get in and out of, because its access mode is lower. And, as for practicality, I've heard people say that the Defender is not that good - especially for access to the rear loading area. The floor is only flat to the back of the rear row of seats, and the seats don't fold flat. When LR brought out the Discovery 5, they threw away the benefit that the Discovery 3 and 4 had, which was a completely flat loadspace with the 2nd and 3rd row seats folded flat, and it was over 6 feet long. They didn't rectify this mistake with the Defender, so the Discovery 3 and 4 are still very popular, at least they are in the UK.
@petehelme7714
@petehelme7714 Жыл бұрын
The LR Discovery (5) is underrated IMO; much better ride, comfort than the Defender with some similar utility and better MPG (for less money). You *can* get an essentially flat load floor in the Discovery by holding down the seat fold button in the back after the initial close. But it effectively mashes the seat cushions and is not recommended.

I am a huge fan of the Land Rover Defender. I was even a huge fan of the very problematic last generation. They are an experience to drive and be seen in. I’d take the Defender over any Jeep product, including that ludicrous Wrangler/Rubicon 392. But I’d take any stripped down G-Wagon over any a fully optioned Defender… even if the Mercedes-Benz was used, or … even if it was white. Thanks for the video.

The warning for Adding a litre of oil is ridiculous 😂. The guys at TFL bought a new Defender a few years ago with a 4cylinder. It lasted 48hrs ! It had a engine problem that Land Rover couldn’t solve so, they just gave them a new Defender . Buy a Lexus .

Our friends had trouble with their new Range Rover. Land Rover couldn't fix it, so they got a new one.

Sorry to disappoint but the right hand drive version of the car has the gear shift on the right and the volume on the left of the centre console so the same issue exists on these cars in that the gear shift gets in the way of operating the touch screen.

Toyota should have shown it by now if it was a 2024. I think soonest will be 2025 model for new 4Runner. They keep selling more and more of them the longer they leave it without an update 😂

Great video!!! There are so many great expects to this video! Loving the sound of the V8,hitting "Good enough for us" in unison,Zach cutting up "Are you looking at me driving in this?" Poser vehicle, ranting about reliable,oil light pops on,and so much more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review!!!

Is this what they call "market segmentation"? Land Rover, Mercedes, Jeep, Ford (Bronco) impliicitly got togerher and carved up for themselves a segment of the market. Land Rover took the segment of the market of the image conscious types, those wanting to drive a status rugged, advenutre seeking, and tough person image portrayed vehicle but dont have enough money to buy a G-wagon. In other words, those who don't want to be seen driving a Toyota/Lexus. Land Rovers are tuned to rev at high RPMs. They often tail other cars bumper to bumper. They pass on the right side lane. Land Rover knows the market segment the comoany plays in.

Of course, Queen Elizabeth had mechanics to come fix it for her. If you don't have a team of mechanics, you should read the JD Power vehicle dependability survey before buying a Land Rover. If it weren't for Tesla, this would be the least reliable brand on the market.

If you whittle those reliability numbers down it just means that a JLR will have 2.7 problems per vehicle sold as compared to 1.3 for a Lexus at the top. So, only one more problem? Not an issue in my world, but I also have lower expectations from manufacturers, and 2.7 issues is well within tolerable.

JLR and the only vehicle that is dumb not to purchase the most expensive dealer warranty. It paid itself in your first year of ownership (LMAO) after the bumper to bumper expires. Burning a gallon of coolant is normal (where?), tell that to Toyota and they will purchase back your vehicle.

If you're leasing, should be fine. If you're a glutton for punishment and have deep pockets, then purchasing should be fine too. Great looking vehicle, but reliability and fuel consumption would steer me away personally...

All the comments on service - mainly from people who’ve never owned a Land Rover. It comes with a four year warranty which can be extended to ten years!! We have owned two with zero issues unlike my previous merc eclass and bmw 5 series - just saying…

Ya.... I really wanted a Defender but I'm gonna play it safe and get a GLS with the V8; I don't like being told by my vehicles to add this or to add that unless it's windshield wiper fluid.

I went with a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon for more capability better fuel milage tougher and I love it. I love the old classic defenders. The one the Queen was driving. These are pretty but the oil and coolant issues would not be good especially since they are over priced. I don't mind paying premium price but the product has to be worth it. I will out drive one of these in my Rubicon any day anywhere.
