This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Mazda 3 AWD compact sedan. Recently on the channel, we have been reviewing some affordable sedan options and the Mazda3 is not exception. While it may not work for everyone as it does lack some interior legroom especially in the second row, it sure is a blast to drive.
We have the non-turbo 2024 Mazda 3 and we're not sure we would move up to the turbo, it has great power and the fuel economy is better. We are driving the GT AWD Mazda3 with a 2.5L 4-cylinder matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission, 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.
Unfortunately, in the US, the two top trims only offer the turbocharged powertrain so if you want all the extra features you have to go for these trims. The non-turbo 2024 Mazda 3 Preferred or Carbon Edition offer some great features but not as many as this GT model in Canada which has features like the Bose sound system, the 10.25” display, navigation and a heated steering wheel. You are also limited to colour options on the Carbon Edition trim.
Standard 2024 Mazda 3 features include, an 8.8” display with Mazda Connect, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7” LCD display, manual heated cloth front seast, 8-speaker audio system, push button start and blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
In the US, heated front seats are not standard but available on the Preferred model.
In Canada, the 2024 Mazda 3 GX FWD model starts at $26,695 CAD, GS FWD $29,195 CAD, GS AWD $33,395 CAD, GT FWD $34,995 CAD, GT AWD $36,995 CAD and GT Turbo $39,395 CAD.
In the US, 2024 Mazda 3 2.5S FWD $24,170 USD, 2.5 S Select Sport FWD $24,690 USD, 2.5 S Preferred FWD $26,190 USD, 2.5 S Carbon Edition AWD $29,060 USD, 2.5 T Carbon AWD $31,750 USD and 2.5 T Premium Plus AWD $35,450 USD.
The non-turbo 2024 Mazda 3 engine gets impressive fuel economy on the highway 6.6L/100 km, 35 MPG and 8.9L/100 km, 26 MPG in the city.
Our 2024 Mazda 3 GT model has the Soul Red Crystal metallic exterior with a leather trimmed black interior. The fit and finish is quite beautiful for this non-luxury segment, it’s simplistic but definitely feels more premium.
Standard features on the 2024 Mazda 3 GT include, a gloss black grille, larger exhaust outlets, black exterior accents, 18” wheels, an adaptive front lighting system, automatic headlight leveling, 10.25” display with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a power driver’s seat, driver seat memory, navigation, a 360-view monitor, a wireless phone charger, moonroof and the option of a red leather trimmed interior.

I wouldn't call the mazda 3 a great value, especially in the higher trims. They ask more coin than they should because their resale isnt as great as toyota and honda. Sales order is 1) Civic 2) Corolla 3) Mazda 3. Driving dynamics arent most important in this category, although i have to say the looks inside and out are best in class!

@@philipf2705 well, considering I paid $44K for a fully loaded Durango R/T in 2016 and they are now pushing $70K (all prices are nuts today)and I loved my 2001 Mazda RX8, I think the style (especially the interiors) build quality, driving fun, elevates the Mazda 3 over the Civic and Corolla, but I take your point, about the exact price......if that is the sole criteria, I agree with ya! Time flies, hard to believe it was 5 years ago when people were first making a fuss over the new hatchback design and rear suspension. It's technically due for a redesign soon, which is weird to think about because it doesn't feel like it's been out for 5 years already.

Mazda3 has always been of my all time favourite compact car. When my 2018 Civic got totalled by a red light runner nearly a month ago, if I was willing to choose sedan over hatchback, which is available. I already taken it. However, I decided to take a "honourable mentioned" compact which is an Impreza Sport Tech. Both Civic, Mazda3 and Corolla hatchback don't have stocks available, Impreza has the last one from the dealer in Vancouver. Anyway, thanks for the great reviews on all those class leading compacts.

Great review. I love it! But you're preaching to the choir about the Mazda 3. We have a US trim "Premium" trim (I think that's what's called 'Carbon' now), normally aspirated, 2021 Mazda 3 AWD sedan. We bought the car in June of '21 before the supply chain seemed to hit the car biz fully, in fact we got a few hundred dollars discount on the sticker price from our local, northern Virginia dealer, enough to offset the rimless mirror dealer option we added. It's in the Crystal Red Soul, white leather interior. The dealer had ordered some nice options on this car. Wireless charger, body color trunk lip spoiler, the bright applique on top surface of the rear bumper cover (not a 'must have' but it does add a bit of dress up to the appearance of the car, ditto the matching color lip spoiler), mud mats and locking lug nuts. We added the rimless homelink/dimming mirror as a dealer installed item. I love driving the car. It just makes me smile; it makes me happy. It's just fun. I agree totally on the torsion beam rear end; it's a complete non-issue as far as handling and ride are concerned. Our other car is a 2020 Acura RDX 'Advance' trim level. I think the Acura is a great car, and it's fun and nice to drive, and not overly huge. But ... the Mazda is really, really fun to drive, and to look at and soak up the styling. While the Mazda is not a 'simple' or plain car, it transports me back to when I was young in the 60s and 70s, to a time of simpler cars that were just a hoot to drive without a lot of complication. I've often thought that if I got another Mazda 3, I'd ask my dealer if I could order the US trim Turbo Premium Plus without the turbo! But guess what, that car exists, it's your Canadian GT trim!! You do have the best of both Mazda 3 worlds with that trim level. Safe to say, I've become a Mazda believer. Maybe I can sneak one of your GT trim models across the border!! 🙂

The Mazda 3 is a beautiful car. For some reason stateside, the sales had slowed considerably. The new 2025 models I’ve seen are much more sportier looking. The reason so many are dropping the stick is no one is buying them. They’ve improved the auto so much they are getting better mileage from them. Also, CVT’s everyone has been having issues those transmissions. The big push is to move away from those too. The big push for EV’s is not going to happen as planned. People aren’t buying them. In NYC alone no one bought one. The reliability issues & the cost of ownership isn’t worth it. Manufacturers are going back to cars & gas engines. The SUV’s & Pickups are so expensive they aren’t selling either. Pickup’s that are $100K that’s insane. I wouldn’t move on to the whole scam of SUV’s & Pickups. They’re like 10 times more expensive to buy & maintain. Tires alone are outrageous. When the Big 3 decided to get rid of cars I knew they were making a huge mistake. I said it too. Now they are back making cars. The Imports are way ahead of them. I’m looking forward to the new 2025 Mazda 6. That is supposed to be the best looking car of them all. I can’t wait. Excellent review of the Mazda 3.

Better than an iCE Corolla/Civic, & best-in-class still IMO, but I preferred the look of the Mazda3 sedan from last-gen more than the current one.

Less gear ⚙️ hunting with a six speed over eight. Nice unit!! However it's worth noting Mazda applies the thinnest amount of paint possible to a vehicle, especially the red Mazdas.

That’s funny he mentioned about Mazda in Quebec. Some people drove to BC from Quebec-all Mazdas.

I own a 1.4 T 2019 Jetta, 8 speed auto and 45 mpg highway and great handling. Mazda "tarts" up the interior which doesn't improve the driving experience and I hate that the bottom left of the touchscreen is hidden by the swoopy (sculptured) "stitched" dash. My Jetta, like all German cars, gets to 100 mph without a whimper. I often row it through the gears with the select handle to the right. I paid $16500.00 for my car, new, and it came with a 6 year warranty, a result of dieselgate, I think. I am glad you at least mentioned the Jetta and I really like your show, thanks.

While I never owned one, I drove the Mazda 6 several times and enjoyed it. Too bad they discontinued it but I think the competition at that point was too much.

I don't know why this brand is not more popular. I've owned 5 Mazdas and enjoyed them all (MX-5, MX-6, MPV, Millenia, Mazda2). We still have one on the driveway that gets a bit of use now and then.

Really hope mazda keeps this around and a mid-gen refresh would bring grille, head, and taillight styling in line with the CX-50/70/90 and brings over the latest tech like the full digital gauge cluster and enhanced driver assist

Test drove the 30. Felt like a rolling coffin! You do not sit up high in it. You sit low and the high door line does not help matters. Very claustrophobic feeling. I felt the engine was buzzy of the line too. It felt better cruising on the highway. The dealbreaker for the 30 and the 3 for me was the very cramped backseats. Fit and finish of the car cannot be beat. The CX-5, however was a dream to test drive. Less HP than the 30, but tuned much better!

@@ms.b9093 I'm only 5'5 so I don't need that much room. My husband already had a CX-5 so I didn't need a bigger vehicule. I sat in a Mazda 3 and I felt claustrophobic in that!

The low seating position of the 30 is a plus if you ask me, but to each their own. Much prefer sitting "in" a car vs on it as you do in the CX-5. The 30 drives 95% the same as the 3 as they share a platform.

I would like to get the non-turbo hatchback with a manual transmission, but, at least in the USA, the hatch is a good bit more expensive than the sedan. Also, Mazda has a zircon sand metallic color that I just love, paired with a gorgeous terracotta-colored interior, but it is only available with 2.5 Carbo Turbo trim, which includes mandatory AWD and a turbo. Also, no manual. Sigh. When I use the build and price feature on the website, I can get the 2.5 Carbon turbo sedan for only $800 more than a non-turbo, non-AWD hatchback. Choices. Choices.

I’ve had 3 brand new Mazdas. Mx-3, 3 and cx-5 all been so good and reliable. Just similar issues with all. Was thinking of going to a Trax but something just pulls me back to Mazdas.. thinking maybe another 3 but I do like more ground clearance with my cx5 but don’t want to spend that much since prices have gone up so much

It's by far the most beautiful car in its segment with the most available standard power and probably the most engaging driving experience. However, it lacks severely in every other conceivable way, such as spaciousness, cargo room, efficiency, price, and choice of interior and exterior colors in base trim. I need my primary transportation to be more than just good-looking and fun to drive. Those are second-tier priorities for me.

I love your show. Unfortunately there is no Mazda dealer around my rural area. I’ve driven a manual transmission since 1984. This year I broke down and purchased the Honda CRV hybrid touring and it’s a great car for getting from point A to point B. It’s just not that engaging. I’m trying to get my wife talked into a used eco boost Mustang with a manual as a second car as that model has also dropped the manual in 2024.😢
