The rare example you gave doesn't mean i need to rethink my assertion, when i am speaking for the majority - most people who are buying base model don't have a high income or alot of disposable income.

@@philipf2705 Yeah, but YOU wrote "Anyone." In any event, I'd bet good money that people who "can't afford to call for help" aren't buying new Volkswagens, base models or otherwise, anyway. Or perhaps you're talking about people who can't also afford to buy insurance? MY insurance - the cheapest I could find - on MY base model Jetta includes free roadside assistance and towing up to at least 25 miles. But hey, nice try - keep fighting for that donut spare. Mine has proved so unnecessary in eight years and 298K miles of driving that I've thought of removing it to have a nice big hidden trunk compartment.

I have a 2020 Jetta SEL. Has been a very reliable car and is very athletic and Pepe where it needs to be in the low end as well as the top end so great for every day driving in traffic and on the freeway the best part is the fuel economy cannot be beat on five hour plus Highway journeys which I regularly take I’m getting 46 to 47 mpg. In city 32. And the technology is on par with what you would get in the prestige trim level of an Audi. The only downside is does not have the upscale materials on the interior like an Audi, but that is my only gripe. I’m very happy at almost almost 70,000 miles. The new 2025 GLI looks very attractive.

It’s so “ funny “ that you guys made this Post as my son just returned from his 2 weeks on at Site C yesterday and when I picked him up he mentioned he was thinking about getting a Jetta / GLI. I would love to have a GLI with a manual as I learned how to drive, took my license test and drove a standard transmission for the first 17 years of my driving lifetime. A couple concerns. I am 6 foot2 and a non longer trim 275 lbs while my son is 6 foot 4 and around 195. How’s the “room “ for a bigger than average person? Also, has Volkswagen ditched the Direct Injection only system to something like Toyota’s half Direct and half through the intake injection? 158 hp and almost 200 lb feet of torque sounds good. I don’t think you gave a torque number for the GLI 2 litre but 228 hp sounds yummy. When you give the litres per 100 kms number and the miles per gallon, is that a USA gallon. With a Canadian gallon being basically 10% bigger the fuel consumption sounds even better. Of the last 3 vehicles I’ve owned I have never had much difficulty achieving or exceeding the manufacturer’s numbers by 1-2 mpg and although I don’t drive like I did in my Camaro 40+ years ago it’s nic3 to know I can if I want. P.S. When Zack had that Motoring show quite some time ago I suggested that vehicles should also be “ reviewed “ at night to get an idea about lighting and visibility. Many modern cars/trucks have pathetic low beams even some of the ones with factory LEDs.

@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 There are NO EPA laws that concern manual transmissions. In EUROPE there were PROPOSED increases to fuel economy that would have made it HARDER to meet them with a manual transmission. When the accelerator and gear choice are linked to a human brain vs a computer, the car is able to perform in a way that is less, cough cough, economical. Those PROPOSED laws were rescinded in Europe. VW trots that out as an excuse, but it is not actually true. What is most likely the TRUTH is that VW didn't want another parts bin. They wanted more money in their pocket and it was just CHEAPER for THEM to build a single transmission. The manual transmission was 35-50% take rate on the Golf depending on model and trim in the USA. Discontinuing it makes zero sense for that kind of take rate. VW ASSUMED the proposed law in Europe would BECOME law, when in reality it didn't happen. Honda still offers manual transmission and Acura INTRODUCED manual transmission in the Integra. So please don't say there is some EPA mandate to eliminate manual transmissions. It is simply untrue.

My first new car in 1990 was a VW Jetta. I liked it so much that I wanted to buy another. I went into the dealership and none of the salespeople would give me the time of day. No worries, I said, there is more than one VW dealership in town. Went to the second one and no one would even look at me. Ended up buying a Camry instead. When it was time to trade in the Camry, my first stop was at the VW dealership. I walked in, kicked a few tires, waited around and again, no one acknowledged my existence. Ended up buying another Camry. Needless to say, I have never bought another VW. In all my years, I have never had this happen at another dealership. Its a shame really. They probably would have had me as a customer for life.

different culture perhaps? a lot of people go to the dealership just to look for a while but don't want to be hassled by sales people. I'm thinking maybe you should have just walked up to a salesman and asked him questions.

I had this same problem at a Hyundai dealership when I tried to trade in my Excel to buy an Elantra. I was ignored and never bought a Hyundai again. That was THEIR lost opportunity.

That's how I prefer it. When I'm ready to negotiate I go to the front desk and ask for a rep. I don't like to be bothered when I'm just looking around.

Nice video. I hate black wheels too! They make it look like someone stole your hubcaps. Need the contrast of a silver wheel with a black tire.

They also make your tires look old and/or dirty most of the time.

Elantra N from a South Korean auto maker? I won't consider, as far as an auto maker is concerned, Germany and South Korean are in the same level at all:-)

@Pamlicojdjdj14874 ай бұрын
@@nsbioy is not really only VW or a unilateral decision on their part. This is EU legislation being shoved down everyone’s throats in the car industry. Manual transmissions simply are unable to meet the ridiculously high emissions standards of Euro 7. Also you have to realize that VW Group of America lobbied hard to VW headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany to make an exception for the US and Canada to offer a manual transmission MK8 Golf R (Which has never been available in Europe by the way). VW made the exception and build MK8 Golf Rs between 2022-2024 with 6 speed manuals for the US market only, even though the MK8 Golf, GTI and Golf R are all manufactured at VW Plant Wolfsburg in Germany. So blame the overreaching EU politicians and climate activists that permeate inside world governments and drive policy to eradicate cars as we know them.

Agreed, but the Jetta hasn't had them since the MK5, and manufacturers have been yanking them out of nearly all US-market family sedans for years now to save a few bucks per car. Shameful, but that's how it goes.

It’s a small cabin. They are really not necessary and for vehicles in that size that do have them it’s almost gimmicky

@@isimonsez Nope. My daughter often whines about being hot in the backseat of my MK6, whereupon I have to freeze my ass off in front to keep it cold back there. And just twice this week, I had other passengers with the same complaints.

@@isimonsezfalse. I have a MK8 GTI and my rear passengers absolutely love and appreciate the rear AC vents and 2 USB-C ports. Also unlike the Jetta/GLI the rear headrests in the GTI are fully adjustable. Nicer plastics in the rear of the GTI. Just a better car why it costs more. Also made in Wolfsburg, Germany instead of Puebla, Mexico for the Jetta/GLI

Find the proportions of the Jetta is strange. The rear end seems a bit too long for the body symmetry. I guess that’s how you get such massive cargo space

They stopped selling the Jetta here in Sydney Australia and I own one called the 2017 Highline Sports 2.0 Liter 155 KW. The only downside is the outdated Engine as the new gen Skoda Octavia RS and th VW Golf GTI will receive the 265 hp/195 KW Engine. And i prefer the previous models Air Con Buttons. And i don't like the look of the Audio System. And i'd Prefer the Adelaide Wheels thats 0n the golf gti.
