There is a very important detail you should note that ruined my repair :( . There is a tiny plastic border just below the screen. When I inserted the blade to start lifting the screen I inserted it below this plastic border and the screen came out with this border attached. Then When I tried to remove this border that was very well glued to the screen I applied some heat but this little plastic border immediately shrunk with the heat and got ruined. So the things to learn from this, first apply the blade over this plastic border so you only get the screen off, and second, if you get this border off by mistake, DO NOT apply heat over it, it is very prone to get melted. Now, I have not found this little part for sale anywhere so I ended up gluing the screen directly to the frame, but there is a 1/3 of a milimeter gap on each side of the phone and look ugly as hell.

Yes, you should be lifting the glass from the phone not the plastic trim. This is why you always need to watch the video before doing the repair and use it as a reference while doing the repair. If the plastic is shrinking too quickly, you're using too much heat. You should be able to heat up the area for around 5-7 seconds without it melting. Your temperature should be somewhere between 400-600 degrees Fahrenheit.

Absolutely agree that minoot amount of information would have been extremely helpful before I started my project. My son broken screen and the insurance was telling me it would cost 200 to replace didn't feel like doing that so I decided to replace the screen myself. After accidentally also pulling up that plastic piece my son and I pulled the plastic piece back off the other screen and removed all the glue and inserted it back into the phone with glue and the new screen we are hoping the outcome comes out well. So far looking so good. Between me and my thirteen-year-old hopefully we fixed it but it would have been nice in the video.

How much heat do you need to add? Could you do this with a hair diryer?

Yes, I just accomplished this repair with a hair dryer. I used the hot setting at low speed.

thanks for this video. i need to replace mine now. i have a replacement screen already, but i don't have the adhesive. i googled it and found a forum where people were saying that you should use 3m double sided 2mm tape instead of that B7000, any thoughts on that? also for anyone else out there trying to fix their phone, the reason i already had a screen is because i bought it a year or two ago to fix my last phone. when trying to do the replacement, i accidentally pulled the screen plug upwards instead of to the right, and i broke the port on the circuit board itself and had to just buy a new phone. be careful when you lift the screen off to not pull it too far away from the phone, and make sure you're pulling the cord the right way out of the socket. you might want to use hemostats or the like if you can. good luck everyone.

Bought the screen on ifixit, it came with the plastic bezel, earpiece, and lots of protective plastic. Highly recommend. I also bought the screen clamps on their website which look cool and are adjustable pressure wise.

Good video. Thanks. The touch screen on my moto z4 has frozen. There are no visible cracks and it looks perfectly fine. The volume up/down and power buttons work. But the touch screen does Not work at all. What would be the cause of a frozen screen and is it be fixable? Thanks

That is the digitizer (touch screen film) which is over top of and part of the LCD assembly but under the glass which is near impossible to replace. You might just have a loose cable but if not easier to just replace the screen.

on mine the plastic border was also damaged. do you know where I can find it or a screen with it?

Replaced mine and now the top toolbar doesn't work as reliability. It does sometimes pull down the menu, but more often it thinks I did a long press near the top and just picks up a wigit or something. On a blank home screen it is a little easier to pull down the menu. Also, the print reader does not recognize, but could retrain a same finger, yet doesn't unlock still. Going to delete and retrain and try again. Any tips or tricks? All else works fine.

Sounds like a defective screen. As for the fingerprint, that seems to be a common issue. I have heard OEM screens will prevent this, I have also heard that factory reset fixes it too. Personally haven’t tested either.

You forgot to mention key details like the frame that is between the screen and phone which is NOT HARD at all to mistake for part of the screen to be replaced. Also many kits have double sided strips that come with the $45 kit and these should be applied to the SCREEN just after testing. After testing DISCONNECT the screen from the phone and then apply the double sided tape to the screen, attach to phone then press the screen on the edges to the phone. I also found out that the screw that holds down the cover for battery cable can be VERY VERY tight and VERY easy to ruin the screw if you do not have a very good Torx screwdriver which is NOT what comes in the ~$45 kits!
