Motorola has a habit of updating their programming software. If the radio was programmed with newer software and you try to read of write to it , you will get the error. Once hit with the latest software there is no beck tracking, you need to find the latest version to do anything with the radio.

I have a vhf as+ but haven’t been able to program, it makes sense about the astro25, do you know where I can get a copy of that as Moto no longer offers that

Trade you some regular HP Spectras for some Astro Spectras. Haha I actually bought a W3 Astro Spectra earlier today. I think it will go well with my Astro Sabers and AVA.
