For those people asking for a Raptor comparison, they did that a couple weeks ago and chose the ZR2 over the Raptor. That being said, these are all good trucks. People need to relax when their favorite isn’t “the chosen one.”

True that. But the AEV armor is no joke. It’s boron steel (hot stamped) and had all the sensors, plus 35” tires. I just bought a '24 Colorado ZR2 and love it, especially after taking it to Moab for 3 days with less than 1,000mi on the clock. I'm definitely a noob at the offroad thing, and think I'll put 34's (285/75/17) on the stock rims, a skidplate for the rear diff and gas tank, and MAYBE a 1-2" lift later if I feel I need it, and that's good enough for me AND I saved a ton of money over the Bison. That the Bison is priced in Ranger Raptor territory without an engine upgrade would make me favor the Raptor if I felt like spending that kind of money. I'm more of an "overlanding" guy (though I don't camp), but since I go everywhere solo, I want MORE capability than I think I'll ever need to make sure I get back.

@SuperGdhf
@SuperGdhf 7 ай бұрын
This is a fair question. Personally, I don’t think it would make any difference at all, really. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter share the same frame, drive train, power plant, wheelbase (unless you spec the THunter with a 6’ box). Same 4WD modes, each have a stabi-bar disconnect and a locking rear diff. The only major differences are the frame-mounted rock sliders and the suspension on the Hunter. So perhaps that could make a difference, and now that I think about it, it certainly would. I think it’s certainly worth exploring - would be cool to see a TRD Pro and Trailhunter go directly head to head. In a variety of conditions, high and low speed. I’m not a Tacoma engineer or expert - I’m merely going off of everything I’ve learned about these rigs. :)

Alrighty. So to supercharge a 2005 4L Tacoma, replace all the suspension with dirt king, fox and Deaver parts, regear it, put 35s on it, beadlock wheels, and a front locker your grand total comes to 23,384 dollars before tax and whatever labour you can’t do. Also you still have to buy a Gen 1 Tacoma with a frame good enough to handle the abuse for about 10-15g.

You can get a Tacoma in a manual. Just not the TRD Pro. The transmission actually drives really well in the 2024 Off-Road Premium I bought last month. I don't know about "bang for buck" either. It seems disingenuous to say the ZR2 gets more for less. I tried to build a ZR2 that had all the same stuff as my OR Premium and it came out almost 10k more.
