single stage is pretty amazing if you have enough coats and take your time.
@mysterywrecked
@mysterywrecked 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't really matter, but the black pad is actually the finishing pad and the yellow is actually medium cut. On single stage paint with that much oxidation I might have used a heavier diminishing compound, like the one for gelcoat from 3m, with a medium wool pad on the high speed buffer. If you work it just a bit more, it will cut that oxidation better and actually finish pretty nice. Then you can go right to the glaze with the red pad which still won't haze on the laquer, but you would want a stronger, "long throw" DA polisher. That would save you 2 stages and 4-5 hours of polishing for the same result. They probably have a deal with Maguires, which does the job, but that system would destroy your back and shoulders on a professional level, as well as your productivity in a shop environment.

@@mysterywrecked should it have been wetsanded? i painted my car recently with single stage urethane metallic paint, it came out very nice but there are some little tiny spots like a small skin tag and the shine is good but it could look better i think, what would you recommend i do

David and Steve, this is the direction Roadkill needs to go. Getting these cars 100% usable again and back on the road is where it's at. Please keep going with this Road Runner. Get the interior comfortable and livable for everyday use and just drive the wheels off of it - it's what Mother Mopar built this car for. As long as the roads are clear, my '70 Chevelle is my everyday car so that's why I loved this episode so much. We need more muscle cars back on the road!
@albertgaspar627

agreed. most of the youtubers taking after RK just take their youtube channel money and buy a POS. then when the next check comes in they go buy another one. Meanwhile the Motortrend/Poweblock shows take one car, ladel on the sponsored parts and build a "budget" car that ain't. It would be an absolute joy to have a channel that takes a car like this, upgrades say the brakes with OEM parts you can get off crockauto (since junkyards are no longer full of C bodies to rob) , maybe put on some Jeep factory rally rims that fit, detail the interior with stuff from WalMart and buff out the stock paint. it may turn into a 50/50 car (great from 50 feet away or going past at 50 mph) or it might surprise people that its actually something they can drive everyday and not be embarassed at a cruise night. it's how we did things back in the days before 1-800-repop and pro touring suspension kits.

The only thing I would have done differently is immediately stick a set of 4 wheel disc brakes on it to make it safe as a daily driver. Looking forward to seeing more about the evolution of this project
