I proudly drive my 93 Lincoln Mark VIII today! I've since completed a visual "update" by swapping front and rear bumpers with that from a 96 Mark VIII LSC along with the much nicer LSC headlight housings and molding panels. Then she her faded and aging drop jewel green paint was changed to the 98s color Midnight Metallic Grey. I absolutely love this car and as long as this powerhouse engine holds up, I'll continue to proudly drive it!

I had a '96 Mark VIII, best et was 14.7@99mph, the transmission was horrible for racing but then it wasn't designed for racing. I used to go to the Amana's with the wife in this car and we averaged 30mpg which was fantastic and possible because of the converter lock up. I miss that car, it looked great, had the best stock stereo system I have ever heard and the cockpit was one of the best I have been in prior to my 2013 Taurus Limited.

This car seems to be quite capable, even against modern competition. 280 hp from a 4.6 liter V8 may not sound like much, but at the same time the Chevy Caprice had a 5.7 liter V8 with only 170 hp. The acceleration also seems pretty strong.

Back in 1992 ish, a group of renegade Ford engineers took one against the wishes of the FoMoCo hierarchy to the salt flats out west and with minimal modifications to the ride height, engine tuning and exhaust, set a land speed record with it, got close to 180 mph with a totally stock engine.

My 94 ran mid 14.6 at 97 stock. Gears and a T-Lok rear will easily knock that to the low 14's and a converter will drop that further to the high 13's.

I'm with you. The Mark VIII was the last real Lincoln, with the exception of the Town Car.

Just when I had given up hope of a motorweek review of my 93 mark, you post this video! THANK YOU! I was actually pretty surprised by some of the tests, mainly the braking distance; the new gen z06 brakes in only 5 less feet! I also really like the sound of the car for the quarter mile test

I found the original receipt for my 93 Town Car it was $42,000 and some change, the same year these marks 8 were introduced with the Dohc 4.6 even though the Town Car was the flagship model, they never got the good performing engines, So much potential was lost because of that I think.

I'll agree with you when it comes to the transmission. This car begs for a 5spd manual and it would be the first thing I would do to mine if I had the time/money to do so. But the air suspension is absolutely wonderful when its working properly. Its got a great combination of sporting character and comfort. I've had to replace mine once since I bought the car and it was not hard at all to replace. No spring compressors or special tools required. Let the air out of the bags and slide them out

oohh man, in late 92 when this mark came out, i was drooooling! the shape and interior is still what lincoln should return to. a new mark and conti design with late 60's early 70's cues would be the best.

I think they tried to bridge that gap with the re-designed continental. A very sharp car and a great concept, basically a 4 door Mark, but they f'd it up with front wheel drive. I think that before they discontinued it in 2011, they should have stuck the 3V in the towncar, stiffened up the suspension, gave it some nice wheels and brakes and sent it on its way, even if it were more expensive, would have made for a nice S-class competitor especially if they stepped up some of the interior amentities like they did for the marks. My mother has an AWD Mountaineer with the 3V and the 6 speed auto and it surprises me every time how fast that thing is for a 4500 lb truck, I think they run similar 1\4 times as the marks, pulls like crazy all the way up to the 110 mph limiter. That thing would be a killer in a Town Car.

Any MW videos for an '88 Mark VII?

That would be unlikely. There wasn't enough of them made for one to be wasted on a TV review. They had to be custom ordered.

$38,000 in 1993, that would be $60,000 in 2013 inflation. The problems is Lincoln hasn't have a RWD V8 yet... does this mean Lincoln will reveal a new model RWD V8 soon?
