Still can't understand why Ford never put the 351W in the Mustang GT or Cobra...would have been a street monster compared to the 5.0 and later 4.6.
@fwh79FOXR66 жыл бұрын
Josh Nixon: The 5.8 has a taller deck height and it would have required a new hood design. Plus, the 5.0 was selling so well, there wasn't really a "need" for it. However, I do completely agree with you that Ford should have made the Mustang with a 5.8. Would have been a very interesting car!

Just checked the CPI inflation calculator. $39,000.00, today would be approximately $67,000.00. All of sudden that would make the pricing for the GT350 not bad (not considering deal mark-ups, of course). However, is this car equivalent to today's GT350, considering the performance figures given?

Tom Jones Trucks in general are much faster these days...and even more comfortable than they used to be. I have the 2014 Ford F150 with the twin turbo V6. Advertised 0-60 is around 6.2. The newer aluminum body version is even quicker at around 5.6, totally stock (and that'a a 4 wheel drive truck by the way): www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2015-chevrolet-silverado-vs-2015-ford-f-150-2015-ram-1500-2014-toyota-tundra-comparison-test-2015-ford-f-150-vs-2015-chevrolet-silverado-1500-2015-ram-1500-2014-toyota-tundra-final-scoring-performance-data-and-complete-specs-page-6 .

But I'm saying, numbers on paper aren't everything. While today's trucks are much closer to straight line performance of sports cars of 20 years ago, I'd be this Mustang would still walk all those trucks. Digs, roll-ons, top end. And those trucks are three times more expensive too. I've been drag racing all my life. I've got a lil some experience and knowledge in this area.

Yes, my GT has 20k on it and has always been garage kept, was never a daily driver and hardly ever saw even rain, yet the engine does indeed appear dirty. Something I always hated, however back in the day we bought them for what was under the skin and the ease and cheapness of modification. Believe it or not, 14.8 in the 1/4 mile was quick back then. Now my daily Accord 6-6 would stay with the Mark I in the 1/4. Such is progress.

They changed the block for 300HP?!? What a waste. Not one of Carroll's finer moments. As I owning many muscle cars and my friends I have to say the only two good things about the 5.0 is sound and more simple to work on. But anyone that drove TPI, LT1, LT4, or the LS1 there was no going back to the 5.0 or the horrible weak 4.6 when grandpa's 3.3L and 3.8L Buick had not the same but more power then the two engines that Ford had. Just sad. Hell the V6 Camaro 3.8 can keep up with those engine.

so let me get this straight, i have to be a member of a "club" to buy a fox body mustang with just a different interior and a couple of extra stripes? and never mind it makes the same power as an LTD crown victoria? ( keep in mind my daily driver is a 99 mercury towncar) you cant polish a turd , a foxbody is still a foxbody and the fact that to buy one you need to be in a "club" makes it pretty stupid.

The engine was modded to make 295 horses at the crank. Up from 225. I thought '92 Crowns made 190 (210 with duals). Plus the 4.6 in the Crown was not known for being a torque monster. I test drove a '94 Mustang GT and the step back in torque left me flat.
