Asir Bro, i would like to correct few details presented by you. In BS6.2 diesel engines (mostly >2L), various exhaust processing units will be placed in following order 1. Diesel Oxidation Catalyst/Catalytic converter (this will have temperature & oxygen sensors) 2. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system (this will be monitored by Nox sensor 3. Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) (this will have differential pressure sensor & particulate matter sensor). SCR system will only spray urea solution into exhaust stream for Nox reduction and it will not aid in burning the soot particles accumulated in DPF. Only high temperature achieved through passive/active regeneration will burn the soot particles accumulated in DPF.
@ant-GK2 ай бұрын
Car sales person commonly says the car has adblue system so there won't be dpf issues as often as it aids in clearing dpf. So adblue has nothing to do with dpf clogging or clearing?
@Devp-t2e2 ай бұрын
@@ant-GK Does Adblue is a solution or we will still end up clog issues? How often we could expect in city driving? or Kms?
@Sam-z3z4x2 ай бұрын
@@ant-GK No, adblue or diesel emission fluid (DEF) is just a urea solution with some specific concentration which will be injected in exhaust gas stream for Nox reduction. For lesser capacity diesel engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system was used earlier for same purpose (which will not be much effective compared to SCR system). DPF can exist without SCR system (adblue injection) also. Even in vehicles having adblue injection (SCR system), DPF clogging can occur depends on driving style.
@Sam-z3z4x2 ай бұрын
@@Devp-t2e Even with ad-blue injection (SCR system), DPF clogging issues will occur depends on driving style. In city driving, DPF clogging can occur ideally in 5000 - 7000 KMS which might require active regeneration. But depends on vehicle aging, regeneration frequency might increase.

I am having Tata Altroz Diesel since 2020. Initial 1 year i was facing soot clogging issues frequently and I suffered a lot to understand this DPF issue. later I understood this mechanism, so first thing I stopped using normal Diesel and started using Indian oil Xtra Green Diesel only and I changed my driving style to adapt the car behavior like using low gear in higher RPM in city and take into highway drive for a while. By following this my car forgot to blink soot clogging light past 3 years. 😊 Enjoy the Diesel cars. Happy Motoring 🚗

absolutely spot on Bro , i had the same issue with my Hyundai i20 diesel BS6, was frustruated with the issue, then did my homework understood how DPFs work , changed my driving style switched from regular Diesel to Jio BP now no issues so far since 2 years.
@sathishsandy36972 ай бұрын
@@Devp-t2e during that time if city usage is more then every 3 months I faced the issue. That time either I had to take the car into service centre to clear the soot or drive in highway until car clear the soot and back to normal from limp mode. That too limp mode is very frustrating one that car will not rev beyond 2000 RPM until all the clogging soot clears. Oh God, those times i can not over take any vehicle. If I stand over the accelerator also car never go beyond 2000 RPM. 😂

you could have explained how the combustion mechanism works in petrol engine vs diesel engine. adding to your point further info on how combustion happens, Petrol engines via combustion of petrol fuel (low molecular weight) + air in presence of spark plug to release energy, hence complete combustion to release as gas. however in case of diesel engines it is via compression of diesel fuel (high molecular weight) + air under high compression will auto ignite and release energy hence incomplete combustion, if excess fuel is injected (or for high torque requirement applications more fuel injected) is remaining inside the combustion chamber. hence high carbonaceous material due to compression may not burn fully resulting in soot or carbon black remnants in exhaust gas.
@mohamedameen61322 ай бұрын
Hello Sir. The portion which you’ve shown at the end of exhaust tip is actually the silencer. Cats usually placed immediate after the engine exhaust manifold as the metals such as platinum, palladium & rhodium need higher temperature to crack down the exhaust gas. The process of NOx reduction actually starts inside the combustion chamber by Exhaust Gas Recirculation process. NOx is produced under high temperature & pressure and thus by sending inert burnt exhaust gas into the combustion chamber reduces the temperature to go high.

one of the best of your videos. you well presented asir. Thank you. want to highlight few things... already diesel engines are so complex and need more maintenance, day by day due to noms we are adding more complex systems in that. Result end user will affect with more cost and etc... with this diesel engine performance now a days turbo petrol engines are serving. why users have to buy this complex systems with more cost. also we are convincing our ecosystem too. already euro countries stopped manufacturing low CC diesel cars...already in india low cc petrol engines 600, 800 cc are stopped. soon below 2.0L cc diesel engines manufacturing will be stopped. for taxi segments CNG's are pushed already. soon in fuel stations in cites diesel filling pumps hoses will be reduced.. so diesel vehicles may wait for long queue and required to fill. and this will replace this with CNGs hoses. also started seeing CNG'S for middle level heavy diesel vehicles in cites... very less time to say bye for smaller cc diesel engines cars...

V😮good explanation Sir. Sir I have a question? Diesels after a 100K kms invariably will start burning oil slowly. Does this mean that it'll start choking the dpf faster? Especially OEM's do v thin oil in BS6 - 0w20/30. It's easy for oil to get past the piston rings as it ages. That's the worry

Adblue dosing is for Nox control not for soot. DPF is only for soot (carbon) traping, regen works only based differential pressure sensor not on PM sensor. Understand the logic behind oxidation catalyst, dpf catalyst and scr catalyst different technologies used to control pollution with the different sensors. Lambda matters more here. EGR is one of the technologies used, there are different aspects to be considered in bs6. Understanding is important before sharing knowledge.

Hello Asir sir, a great fan of your technical knowledge in Automobiles. Our family owns a Nissan Sunny K9K D engine and am a great fan for it in terms of power delivery, fuel efficiency and maintenance and the car itself. Was waiting for the global spec Nissan sunny/Almera/Altima to be launched in India but, was heartbroken to hear the discontinuity of it. Later on seeing your videos I came to know that it's because of K9K couldn't survive BS6. As said by you in this video, suzuki's exhaust structure couldn't stand modification for BS6. What could be the reason for K9K engine in your point of view? Because I am wondering for a long period, how can Mahindra's 2.2L Diesels survive BS6 but not a less capacity engine whose exhaust pollution particles would be less when compared (just my view) couldn't. Happy to hear in any part of your upcoming Podcasts. Thank you Sir. Big fan. @motowagon
