Mountain Biking in the Cowboy Capital // Hill country State Natural Area //Bandera Texas MTB

Todays adventure takes us Hill country State Natural Area in Bandera Texas. A place known to many as the cowboy capital of the world.
Ive previously made the one hour drive out here from San Antonio on a scouting mission for a place that offers good camping, phenomenal views and a ton of trails for mountain biking. I found all of the above at Hill Country SNA.
The trails out here can best be described as raw, natural and unpolished. These trail systems were definitely made with hiking and horseback riding in mind, so you won't find any groomed trails or sweeping berms. However, the rugged nature of this park allows for a challenging and fun approach when navigating these trail systems.
If epic views, sketchy descents, and rugged terrain are what you're looking for, then Hill Country state natural Area is definitely a place worth checking out.

I went on a Monday morning, it was overcast and nobody was around…perfect! I took the Wilderness Trail from Lot 2 and banged a right onto Spring Branch, took a left on to the Overlook Trail, descended back down Wilderness back to the Wilderness Trail. Took Wilderness all the way around by Ice Cream and ended on Bandera Creek Trail. Overall great place, loose rock made climbing impossible. Bandera Creek Trail sucked ass full of ticks in tall grass and rode through a massive spider web. Spring branch had some tight spots with pokey plants

It’s a tricky place to ride. It definitely seems more hiker or horseback oriented. But I’ve rode there twice and I’ve seen more horses than people. Definitely a good place to explore and enjoy very low traffic. Thanks for watching and glad you got to check it out! 😎🤟
