nice vid. came across your channel. what would you say is a good loop/trails to ride in Nanaimo? I'm looking to ride there sometime in January. how are the climbs and which area are shuttle access? thanks

I believe in January Chainsaw Ridge and possibly upper Meat Draw are under snow. All of the lower trails with Simpsons themed names are a great loop though and rideable all year round. Uterbraten, Sexy Flanders , Max Power are the names. That is a reasonably easy climb. The climb to the top (like in this video) is hellish. There is another area close to Benson called Doumount . That area can be shuttled to some extent but the trails are much different from Benson.

Brent Kral I would be more than happy to give you a grand tour of this mountain. It would take a 30+ km ride to do all the trails but it would be epic. There are amazing,jumpy flow trails on the lower side of this mountain. Best all around riding on the island.

So Ive started watching your nanaimo videos coz the group is going to visit Mt benson. After watching the 1st half of this video I was like "Yea, we're not doing this." LOL! But I love the flow trails tho.

Fantastic! I can't wait to sample these trails. You now have a bunch of Ontario riders watching your videos. When I move I think I'll start posting rides under This is Going Uphill where it's just me climbing at 10 kph for hours 😀

Scott Coulas You would probably land more subscribers than I ever will! People like their climbing. In all seriousness, if you started a page just conquering all the technical and tough climbs, I think people would get behind that. I need to reshoot this trail with some buddies to give a truer idea of what it is like. This gives an idea, but shot it too close to noon when the light is at its worst and skipped a few rideable features. Not good enough for my favourite!

How do you get to the top of the mountain? Do you drive, bike, shuttle, etc?
@ThisIsGoingDownhill5 жыл бұрын
Austin Wilson If you know a local with a key to the gate you could shuttle a good portion of it. But sadly, I don't. So you need to ride. It's an easy fire road pedal for the first half or 2/3's. Then right near the top it is pretty crappy. But well worth the torture. One of the islands finest trails.

BKXC spends time there sometimes and he loves those trails and scenery, you gotta have some good skills to ride those trails, great test of a wheelset too, those rocks cant destroy things easily!!!!

jim dandy I have never seen any BKXC vids on Vancouver Island before. The Loam Ranger did an Island tour but didn’t ride these trails. Surprisingly the professional KZbin guys don’t really come over here too often. Weird because our trails are great.

nice ride. Im surprised you rode the very top part entrance, it was littered with glass when I was there!

I would still go to that summit if a pack of cougars lived up there!

Hey, Could you give me the names of some of the trails you rode? (If you know) Thanks!
@ThisIsGoingDownhill6 жыл бұрын
Agent Smith I always put the names on the thumbnail. ( I realize it can be hard to read and a tad busy...) but that was Chainsaw Ridge, Upper and Lower Meat Draw and Roller Coaster. I tend to try and make it a little cryptic, only because there are many different opinions about displaying trails on the internet. I am basically trying to help people but not give too much information.

Amazing video, thanks for filming your epic DH and uploading. Hope to ride this in the spring. This video should be used to promote mtb on VI:)
