Mountain High: Real Skiing in So Cal

I skied Mountain High way back when its sister resort located a mile due east was called Magic Mountain before the two resorts came to be known as Mountain High East and Mountain High West. Head up there to arrive at 4pm when the day skiers depart, and the slopes empty out for the night skiing session to commence just as the sun sets over the ocean beyond the glittering carpet of Los Angeles lights at dusk, visible when the cloud cover parts, from the top of the chairlift that heads off to the left from the base lodge. The floodlighting provides better visibility than daylight, and there are hardly ever any lift-lines after night falls. You just ski right up to the chairlift at the midway point, thereby getting more than tenfold the time on your skis than is possible amid the throngs of a typical day skiing.

this place hasn't had a good season since the late 90s... after 1 weekend of fresh snow bring your ice skates... if there is ever going to be a great winter, Mt. Baldy is the best in so Ca... hardly any people and 20 minutes from the base of the mountain
