Hello from northern California! Wow.... a mountain lion! My fav rock was the one with silvery metal in it and could be a tool from many moons past... but the mountain lion was really something else... I wonder if he had been watching you for quite some time? Thank you for the extraordinary share!

I had two mountain lion sightings in Napa County. I was walking uphill on a trail and 10-20 feet away from me in the bushes I heard "Hooooowaaaaahh! I knew what it was right away even though I had never heard that sound before. It made that sound again and then jumped. I slowly walked away, and the entire time I was walking away it kept making that same sound. It was just trying to scare me away which worked. A few months later I had another sighting a couple miles from the first sighting. I came around a bend in the trail, and the lion was walking away from me on the same trail a couple hundred yards ahead of me. He was walking very slowly, so I was able to observe him for 2 or 3 minutes. It may have been the same lion because it was so close to the first sighting, and their territories are large. Seeing one is like seeing a ghost. You can hardly believe it. Ecosystem health takes precedence over public safety in my opinion especially considering how much damage we have done to the ecosystem. If some livestock, which ravage the environment, are killed or an individual is attacked by a predator the public believes they have the right to exterminate masses of predators.

I miss being able to go out into nature and collect rocks, and hike around. Thank you, so much, for taking us along with you. These videos are medicine to me.

I had an encounter with a mountain lion when I was at my aunt's house. Their kitty went missing. I talked to it just like you where doing. I had to crab walk backwards up 3 hill levels to get to the house. It was in the old tree house. At one point i was eye level with it. So I understand how your heart was beating! She looked more scared of you. So I think she had run ins with humans before. Beautiful animal!

You did exactly what you needed to with the cat. I have had 2 encounters in Colorado and while it is scary, they are usually more afraid of you, wait AS afraid of you as you are them. Man some beautiful stuff your finding. Havagudun Bud>

Wowza, my heart was racing just watching. So much for a relaxing video after work. So grateful that you understand nature and are capable of explaining how to handle situations. If I ever have a encounter, I'm not sure that I could remain as calm. I'm not the type to want the critter killed, but I'd surly avoid the area for some time. Courage.. moving forward in spite of fear. Some people have it, others don't.

I recently stumbled upon your videos while searching "rock hounding on the Oregon coast". I'm a rank beginner but in love. Your videos are like going to the most interesting classroom ever. I've checked through many other rock hound videos "interviewing" the hunters, so to speak, and no one does it as well as you do. Your voice is mesmerizing andquiet as befits a visit to nature. But it's the explanations of why you're looking at one place as opposed to another and the detailed information, and having insight into a true naturalist. It is wonderful.. And this video was extremely exciting. I"ve lived in lion and rattler country for a long time, and I loved hearing your philosophy about them, their territories, and us. I'm making my way through all your videos. Thanks so much for your gift to us!

Sounds just like here...where he was hounding. My goid frjend had a run in around the same time in the very same area of that creek...i believe my friend and Nate both have a lot of good karma that aninals sense and see. The wisdom of not triggering instinctive chasing accounts for why they lice to tell. I have had a couple clise encounters a couple mikes away near a creek and homerange to plentty of deer.. raccoons..etc. we also have bkack bears...and overoopulatiins of rattlesnskes..kings..giphedsnames..garterd and rscees. These are veey intellugent creatures whi gsve survived way toi many huge fires...and its true of Nate..Ed..and myself along with thousands who will nevee rdturn to the wikderness of nature ..the wui. WOW heck of an encounter with a tiger Lily, who knew it could stain so badly! I bet the cougar had your pulse racing too, that was CLOSE. About a month ago we were messing around a creek, wind gently blowing off and on. It would bring a scent, told Hubby it smells like cat pee. Within 100' of where we parked the truck 175' from where we were in the creek was a cougar. She was on her side in the shade with a little one or two bouncing around. She was watching us, didn't care, looked like they had a turkey dinner too NO interest in us other than to know where we were. We got the heck out of there didn't want her upset over the cubs and she was there first. Your Cougar looked young still, so glad it didn't confront you over the turkey. Guess a good reminder for us to look up and do a scan of the area once in awhile! That boulder WOW, would be a beautiful garden Center piece If You could get in there and remove it whole lol.

Good job. You reacted properly. My heart would have been racing too. I was just up in Napa last week and was watching for cats. I did see some scat that was full of cat hair and others full of berries. I always check to see how fresh using my walking stick. Stay safe. I’ll be up there again after July4. I’ll watch for your truck, dog and cats. Best, Kenny

Great site! Looking for rocks and found a mountain lion! What are the odds of that? I was hiking up a stream a few years ago and came across a few paw prints in sand that looked pretty fresh. But, I kept going because it was just a gorgeous area and didn't want to stop. Then, I came across some really, really fresh mountain lion scat. So fresh, it was gleaming in the sunlight from the moisture in it. That was enough for me to decide to call it a day. The hike back to the car seemed to take a little longer than usual for some reason!
@Pentapus10246 жыл бұрын
I feel REALLY bad for that mountain lion 😔 Everything you said about how important that meal was is true. And also about how little territory she has nowadays because of human encroachment. Very sad, bummed me out. If there's one thing I love more than minerals, it's felines. I wish there were less humans so that wolves and coyotes and mountain lions could be mystical apex predators in peace.

been in that situation myself. lived SW colorado during a drought...when during the night I heard my landlord's baby ducks and chickens being attacked. I thought it was a bear... turns out it was mountain lion that went up a tree and snarled at me... back in 2003... scared the living hell out of me

Hey Nate. My Name is Channel and My Fiance Jed and I have been on the hunt for the place where you found the diamonds. we have taken the kids with us on these long hot rides and I think we're having fun finding what I think is jade and petrified wood but after that long hike yesterday to Table Rock at Robert Louis Stevenson's where we didn't find anything and, I was sad the view was nice until we saw the fire in the distance but it was disappointing cause there was no creek with water that lead to a lake. so sad about that. Just trying to find one with the kids so we can put it in a ring. Can you tell me how to get there or close to it? I live in Fairfield CA.Thanks.

Hope you carry some kind of protection. Always a chance to run into a rogue predator. Most run from humans. Always a chance for that one that doesn't. Seems this one knew you were there . This could of turned out ugly. No reason for that cat to of still been there knowing a human was close. She probably just stumbled on that turkey while she was checking you out. Darn lucky. That turkey saved your bacon maybe. This little episode should tell you to be more aware of your surroundings. By yourself even more so! You definitely should have another body with you when you go in these remote places. This was too close of a call . We both know that. Glad it turned out way it did. Lucky this time. Pretty easy to get distracted and that's all the advantage an animal would need. I know you know what you are doing and your not a novice at this stuff, but darn! Pretty close call on this one. No joke. Ok I'm done mother henning you lol scared me for your welfare watching this.
