Back in the day, talk shows seemed a bit more sophisticated. Leno was basically the king of them. As a result, the audience acts accordingly. Of course, it also stems from common knowledge that Pumas are frightened by loud noises. For all we know, it could've chewed the front-row seats if anyone yelled. What also helped was Leno playing with it earlier, giving it some bond exercises.

The presenter and Jay Leno did a great job. That animal is not being abused. For those who think so take a look at the numbers of slaughtered cougars in the wild. Take a look at a wild cougar's chances of survival. Look at what happens when a cougar gets hold and can no longer hunt. It is a sometimes very slow and painful death. Also remember, we love what we see. If this program does anything, it shows the beauty of these animals. If that is what we are calling abuse then please, someone abuse me that way.
@gaillynch832810 жыл бұрын
Those traps are for the very people who set them. There is no need to hunt anymore. Humans are the most destructive creatures, and some may need to have a contraception implant. Just waiting for one for the guys. Now that would be a great service to this planet.

***** Just because someone "saved" that animal shouldn't mean the animal is obligated to go on a talk show, endure the stress of being surrounded by hundreds of loud people, and have the host karate chop it on the back...That cougar shouldn't owe anyone that kind of ridicule. If you want to educate people about wild and potentially dangerous animals such as a mountain lion you should demonstrate how to respect such a creature. You shouldn't teach people that you can or should karate chop a fucking wild panther in the name of comedy... They paraded this cougar around the studio like a joke. I think an animal like this, or any animal for that matter deserves to be shown much more respect than that. And I also don't feel that the handler was comfortable with the way Jay was treating it and they probably regretted it later, (that is if they weren't getting paid a large sum of money).
@OffhandDelivery10 жыл бұрын
Everyone involved had good intentions I'm sure. I believe that animal was uncomfortable to a certain degree, how could one not be given the circumstances. Much more respect should be shown when dealing with animals.
@bellona63567 жыл бұрын
The argument that because they'll "die in the wild so let's exploit them", is so disingenuous and ignorant. Wild animals belong in the freaking wild. They need to hunt. They need to raise their offspring. It's instinctively ingrained in them. Everything dies in the end. What matters is the quality of life you have in the meantime. Parading an animal around on a leash, a WILD animal, in front of a crowd stressing it out is wrong. Very few organizations and obviously the general public actually understand the proper habitat and enrichment needed to care for an exotic animal. Let's stick you in a cage & feed you 3 meals a day, and only take you out to be gawked at. I'm sure you'd love it.
@KG-yz7tr6 жыл бұрын
I agree with Della Jacot. No one's abusing or exploiting the animals. They're being shown on TV to educate people about them, not for some comedy skit. Jay Leno is cracking jokes here and there because that's simply what he does on his show. People need to be educated too, just look at all the idiots in these comments saying that the people in the studio are lucky the mountain lion didn't go wild and attack or kill everyone as if it would randomly go on some kind of killing spree. Yes, mountain lions are big and can be dangerous but people are uneducated and ridiculous which is why beautiful creatures like these are in danger. So, bellona6356 and OffhandDelivery, get your heads out of your asses.

@@afghanistan1546 : But the Cougar attack that I spoke of had nothing to do with the Cougar feeling "threatened" though. It was emaciated and hungry, and it stalked and attacked two full grow male humans that were together. One man got away, and the man was killed. Humans aren't typical prey for Cougars, and so in most cases there won't be an issue. However, they have, and they do, attack humans on occasion - either for food, or for protection of their young, or yeah... sometimes out of fear if they are surprised and threatened by a human. Regardless, running across a Cougar in the wild is not an experience to be taken for granted, or to be taken lightly. What seems harmless could turn serious in a heart-beat.

Yeah I was about to say, that lion was about to crunch Leno's bones for real with the massage 'joke.' That squatting down means stop touching me in cat body lang. A slightly more aggressive one probably would have attacked at that point instead of jumping off the table. That's why the lady said 'that's enough of that.' She saw the agitation too.

I love how comfortable Jay is around them. Usually hosts are terrified or just act terrified to get some stupid reaction from the audience but Jay showed respect and these animals were portrayed in a better light. Jeez you guys don't you know what a damn lynx is? A lynx is not a mountain lion lol. It's just a larger bobcat with pointier ears, a beard, and larger paws. A cougar looks more like a leopard with a different paint job.
