wow i couldn’t have said it better myself. my partner and i recently welcomed a newborn son and i’ve been working 50-60 hrs to make ends meet, working every day except sundays, sometimes working 2-3 doubles in a row. yesterday and today were my first full days off in a long long time and now i’m just sitting here with my son in the front pack while the sun rises learning to play Moon. spent a long time looking up chords and examining videos before i FINALLY realized that molly tunes the g string down one half step when she plays it 😭 what a breath of fresh air.

Someone at NPR should compile a "best of" edit of all the awkward stories/jokes told in between songs on Tiny Desk. Something silly lives in those moments that doesn't exist anywhere else in life. When a performer is trying to stay in the zone while tuning or just filling the awkward silence in a room of people waiting for whatever comes next. They reach into the grab-bag of their mind and pick out a random thought -- often times adding to the awkwardness of the moment -- and we love it.

care to explain complex harmony?
@MaterDolorumOraProNobis5 жыл бұрын
More like nuanced harmony wouldn’t call it overly complex.
@FrashOnTV5 жыл бұрын
@@MaterDolorumOraProNobis genuinely curious, i don't have any formal training in music. i get the general idea of harmony, but i'm wondering what/why would it be caracterized as complex, or nuanced? from my point of view, it looks really easy to play, when comparing it to more "complex" genres, jazz/metal come to mind. cheers
@MaterDolorumOraProNobis5 жыл бұрын
Mike simply put the harmonies are pretty simple. That doesn’t make them bad or easy. They clearly have practiced together a lot and are tight. However, the vocal range isn’t wide and the voices are locked into a basic pattern of harmonies that repeats. A complex harmony would include more voices and would cover a wider range of notes.
@cedric585 жыл бұрын
@@FrashOnTV To answer to your curiosity, my point of vue is these are complexe harmones because : - they did not choose the easiest way to harmonize (always the 3rd or 5th like we usually heard), but they add a lot of colors in their melodies. - their voices are likes enterlaced snakes, when the main singer is going up, the others do not always go up too. This is kind of 3 melodies (or sub-melodies, specially 1rst and 2nd songs) that are differents, but mixed together and they match so well. For me you can compare the harmonization like that to this kind of optical illusion ("do you see a duck or a rabbit") : www.all-about-psychology.com/images/rabbit-duck-illusion-psychology.jpg That's make their harmonies complexe because of that. For me complexe had never meant hard to listen or hard to play (even if their harmonies are probably quite hard to sing). This is my point of view and this is more a definition issue about what means "complexe harmony" which seems not to be the same as yours. Cheers :)
