Worthy of mention: The livery I was using in the video, is not a default livery included the H145. As such you won't find it included with the package and the quality may not be representative of Hype Performance Group's work. Nevertheless, thank you very much to Denis Pfeiffer for the livery and his hard work! Further to this, as per HPG's post below; I can confirm that they are indeed a very active / proactive dev (and I had meant to mention this during the review) - the H145 has seen a number of updates over the month or so that I have owned the product, which is always great to see! : )

Thanks for taking our H145 for a test flight! It is still in early access so some things like the pilots, sounds and flight model continue to be refined, we’re a very active development team and release dev builds on a regular basis leading up to our big beta releases. In regards to the quality of the livery I just want to note that the livery you used here wasn’t one created by our team and it has some issues that aren’t present in our default liveries. Thanks for covering our H145, we have some exciting things around the corner with our Action Pack Expansion available for preorder now and our HEMS variant expected for release next month 😎

Hey there - when you dial in weights dont forget to push "VAL" for validate otherwise all changes u made are discarded! when you press "ACK" on the FND page before starting engines you are sure not to miss any new failure items! for hydraulic tests in the real one - u switch to HYD 1 and then make gentle moves on the cyclic roughly 1 cm in every direction and pull collective with the latch on just to see if the FLI starts to move - same for system 2! After start - dont forget DC receipt ON otherwise the medical crew or the guys needing power in the back of the cabin have no power on the sockets.... P-FLT test is not modelled... during flight you would NEVER be on VMS page because the systems would tell you if there is something wrong - so just switch a map to the middle MFD on shutdown you wouldnt switch FMS's off because that would go off automatically after swithcing off BAT MSTR switch - the left FMS is also powered by AVIO MSTR 1 you would shut off BAT MASTR after the rotor has stopped and you have download complete indication on the master list - because u have to record the flight times and cycles below 10% Rotor rpm into the flight log first ^^ but nonetheless - as always pretty detailed review of the aircraft by you! And no - I am not the developer just the real H145 pilot ;)

Thanks very much for the info A360! All great stuff and I’m sure I made many mistakes along the way XD Unfortunately, given the number of addons I work my way through, I can’t devote the time to become fully up to speed with each and every one of them (though I try my best). I tend to run the flight using either a real-world checklist, or the one provided by the dev (as I did here); if the checklist has any gaps in it, I just have to make an educated guess. Lucky you though - I’m sure the H145 is great fun to fly! : ) Thanks again and all the best!

@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Well I’m sure you know more than me then Peter haha! I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Chinook simulator many years ago, but other than that, I’ve always been used to having the spinning bit in front of me. As you say, it would stand to reason that once the sim natively supports rotary aerodynamics, we should see some significant improvements (and hopefully some more addons as well). Have you ever tried the DCS Huey? Again, I’ve never flown a rotary aircraft in the real-world, but I always use that as my benchmark for how I’d expect a helicopter might actually fly - it certainly feels very convincing. Cheers! : )

Great review. I must admit that when it was first announced I did question the rather high price for a work in progress aircraft but having relatively recently bought it I absolutely love it and I think its worth every penny. For me its definitely the most fun aircraft in the sim and I spend more time flying it than any other aircraft now. So for value for money it absolutely hits the spot. The modelling is superb there too. As you say up there with the best and easily on a par with the Asobo's default sim offerings. I agree that the flight model can be a bit frustrating at times but considering helicopter physics are not yet native to the sim its over all pretty impressive. I'm really looking forward to the up coming action pack add on. I'll definitely be getting it. Things like that will bring so much more dimension and immersion to what the sim.

Thanks very much Mobias, glad you enjoyed the video! I’m sure many (myself included) probably had reservations about the fairly steep pricing for an early access product. “Early access” is such a hit and miss term these days as well; some products being absolute garbage that never get finished and others being complete gems, often better than “finished” products - luckily the H145 falls into the latter category haha. I gather the flight model has now had quite a significant update, so I’m looking forward to trying that when I get the chance (as you say, it might not be perfect, but it’s still incredibly impressive what HPG have managed to achieve!). I’m looking forward to the action pack as well, I’ll probably try and feature it at some point : ) Thanks again and all the best!

Nice looking chopper and a nice flight! I've flown the freeware 135 a few times and it was pretty fun in spite of me seemingly being incapable of hovering any simulated helicopter. I'll probably buy a payware chopper for MSFS one of these days and I've thought about this one as it seems to be pretty popular amongst the whirlybird fans but I'm holding out for something cooler like a Sea King or a Lynx. Cheers for the great video! I was planning on catching up with some other of your vids today but the DC Designs Concorde just dropped and I'm off to poke around in that for the next few hours!

Yes, the 145 is a very nice effort from HPG overall. Not the type of helicopter I would typically choose for myself though either; I prefer my rotary aircraft in the sim to be small, dated, difficult to fly and just a little bit dangerous haha (and therefore basically well beyond my skill level). I think I read somewhere the other day that a Gazelle is in the works for MSFS. I imagine that might be more up your street (certainly more along the lines of what I enjoy from a whirlybird)? Haha, Concorde beckoned, totally understandable! I’d have made the same call myself XD Cheers! : )

Actually been doing some studying this morning, learning the climb / acceleration schedules etc. I want to have some idea what I’m doing when it arrives. Sadly it seems I wasn’t selected to preview the aircraft, but I’m going to see if I ask nicely, whether the relevant parties might consider a last minute addition to the team hehe. I’m also thinking I might get a Concorde vid up in X-Plane ahead of time, a bit like I did with the 146, for some practice and familiarisation. Either way, I’m hoping to review it for sure; perhaps I’ll have to get my own bottle of bubbly - give me something to do over the middle of the Atlantic XD Haha! At first I was a bit skeptical about the early access model, but the H145 was already good at the very beginning, and being part of the journey since has been so much fun! I fly the H145 for at least 70% of my sim time, probably more! Two of my favorite features are the map display options on the MFDs (NAVD and DMAP) and the auto pilot modes. The latest builds also feature a more lively flight model, which makes things even more interesting. Personally I love the steady stream of new builds, always a motivation to start the sim because HPG have once again improved or added something. And all that without any serious bugs that I remember, which is in itself a major achievement. Best money I ever spent on an add-on!

Not sure if you’ve played DCS but if you have, how does the FM compare? Does it accurately model vortex ring and the difficulties of transition into hover/landing etc? Edit- I see that you’ve said about how stable it is, the Huey and some of the other choppers in dcs are anything but easy to fly.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonny, Sorry for the slow reply, just catching up on comments now. . . It’s hard to compare directly, as the H145 has a lot of stability management systems, that mean it doesn’t fly anything like the Huey etc. That being said, I don’t think the flight dynamics are anywhere near on a par yet with DCS / the Huey (surely one of the best sim helicopters of all time). Its amazing what HPG have managed to achieve, but it feels like a much cruder flight model than the likes of DCS overall. The H145 did actually just receive an update to its flight model, but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. . . I hope that helps a little! All the best : )

Cheers AN, glad liked it! The RT effect is something I create during editing, using a program called Audacity (just to try and make things a little more immersive). I basically just cut out the higher and lower frequencies of my audio recording (as would be the case when using a radio) and then add in some distortion. I can go into the specifics a little more, if you’d like to try it for yourself? All the best : )

Hi Bruno, Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video! The French radio communications were actually just real-world military recordings, that I then edited into the video. Hey, quick question for you. i tried out the freeware H135 just to see what it was like (latest version from HPG's install program). I'm guessing it's very outdated (not on a dev update schedule) since it's bindings were not using the helicopter bindings but standard GA airplane bindings and the flight dynamics were not realistic. I'm asking because I am interested in the H145. If you wouldn't mind giving me your opinion between the H135 vs H145. I would assume night & day difference in everything but that's just a total guess.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Жыл бұрын
Hi Dabney, To be honest, I haven't flown the H135 in a year or so and the H145 in a few months (I just haven't had the time), so I couldn't really give you an up to date opinion. That being said, I don't recall the two flight models being all that different (though the H145 has a lot more fidelity in most other areas). A couple of points worth considering; 1) did you have the assists turned off (via the tablet) for the H135? 2) the H135 / 145 does have a lot of stability augmentation, hence why the chopper feels pretty "easy" to fly (how realistic that is, I have no idea). The H135 / 145 uses an external flight model, hence why it doesn't make use of the sim's default keybinds. Sorry that isn't a very concrete answer, but I hope it helps a little nevertheless! Cheers : )

Hi Ry Jay, Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hmm, that's a strange one. I'm no expert with the H145 and I haven't had a chance to try the most recent version of the addon: Are you saying you have failures turned off within the sim, or rather for the addon itself? I'm not sure to what degree failures are modelled on the H145 these days, but it may be that the aircraft has its own failure modelling, outside of the sim settings. Other than that, I can only think it is either a bug (which I'm sure HPG will have fixed fairly quickly), or an error in the start-up sequence perhaps. Sorry I can't offer up any concrete help on that one, I do hope you manage to get things sorted! All the best : )

I’m afraid I have absolutely no idea, TrueBlade haha. If I had to hazard a guess, I would imagine that the H145 actually uses more VRAM, owing to the fact that it’s a more complex product but again, that is just a guess (perhaps, given that it’s a payware product, the H145 has been optimised a little more). Sorry I can’t offer any more clarity on that one. . . Have a great weekend! : )

Anyone with piloting or engineering knowledge can give opinions on this flight model? Asking because I tried the 135 and it felt reaaaally gamey. By that I mean it's incredibly stable, barely requires any input at all and the collective shoots you up (or down) almost instantly. Sometimes it's so smooth turning and maintaining a pitch angle that it felt I was flying a fighter jet. I have no idea if that's because the helicopter's tech of because of limits and simplifications in the flight model. No, I'm not flying in the "Xbox mode". The 135 didn't exactly give me a good impression to make me invest in the 145. Then again, the only heli I've flown that is (supposedly) of decent quality in any sim is the ka-50 from DCS.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruno, Well I'm a pilot, but never flown anything rotary in the real-world. I think it's a bit of both in terms of what you describe; the H135/145 is of course fitted with some impressive tech, that makes the machine easier to fly, but the flight model is also somewhat lacking at the moment. The sim still doesn't natively support rotary aircraft, so I'm sure HPG are doing the best with what they have, but it does feel a little bit "gamey" to fly, particularly on the collective where as you say, it feels like there is no "aerodynamics" between your input and the outcome. I'm sure HPG will continue to work on the flight model, the same for Asobo. MSFS just isn't where it's at for helicopter physics currently though; for that DCS and X-Plane just can't be beat. Again, take all of that with a pinch of salt, since I'm not a rotary pilot, but I hope it helps nonetheless. All the best! : )

Haha, is it that many Rage?? I would have to agree. I’d definitely have bought the package if it was global (and reasonably priced), but as I’m not a big US flyer, I didn’t imagine it would enhance the sim much for me. Even if I was a US flier though, personally there’s no way I’d want to have 5 separate packages (and spend $50!) just to have some birds - that seems excessive. Now that more and more scenery devs are adding birds in, that’s good enough for me. That covers the vast majority of the time you’d be expecting to see any anyway. Cheers! : )
