I'm loving these lakes you're fishing up there!!! Rocky shorelines, mountains, tall trees bordering lakes, no one else on the water.....you're making me miss home haha!!!! I tell people I meet here in Florida how much I miss the mountains and most just don't get it, there's a sense of peace and a weight lifted off of your shoulders stress wise when you are surrounded by them that you just can't explain until you experience them. Now back to the fishing, up North I was 80% smallmouth and 20% largemouth and in all my years fishing in VA, MD, PA and NY, I really struggled to find smallmouth in "smallmouth lakes" unless they were spawning and came up shallow to bed around rocks, docks, grass beds ect.....after they spawn, they go back out deep for all the forward facing sonar people to catch haha.....but like you said, rivers are a different story and MUCH easier to pull mostly smallmouth out of with the current and cooler moving water.

I can totally relate to the feeling of being alone in this landscape. It's awesome. When I'm out there, I don't want to leave. I get that most of the big Smallmouth will be out deep on submerged boulders. That's where I've looked for them. I'm not seeing a thing on my fishfinder. I did get a decent one in the next video but she was in a foot of water in the lily pads.... where the largemouth usually hang out. I need to check the current on the Penobscot River. See if it's calmed down enough for me to get out there in my kayak. Last year when I tried, it was WAY too much current. That river is stacked with Smallies. Fun times! We got TONS of rain for the first 5 hours of daylight today so it's probably raging! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

This pond reminds me of a pond or 2 I fished in New Hampshire, swallow areas, deep areas, grass and pads and very clear. These are the best fishing spots.

Smaller ponds are my favs, you don’t have to deal with boats for the most part and they can hold some really nice fish like that “First fish of the Day” you caught. Where the heck are the Smallies ? Whoa…what was that one legged frog you were throwing ? Never seen that one before. Just another fine day of Maine fishing.

Thanks Don. I'm right there with you on smaller bodies. I hate dealing with boats / jet skis etc. These little mountain lakes are gems. You need to give the Sprinker Frog a look. My favorite frog. Very similar to whopper plopper action. I like the Maracker too. Made by Teckel.
