Mountains to Sea Trail Episode 1 Segment 1 Clingmans Dome to Waterrock Knob.

The Mountains to Sea Trail begins! Accompanied by family, I start hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains, and see many of the things the area has to offer: Mountains, trees, water, snakes, bears, and much of the rain expected in a temperate rain forest.

Mid-century, we courted on Water Rock Knob: no walkway, no pavement, no structures, just a gravel parking area. It was private especially at night. A ranger came one time, blinked his lights at us, and resumed his patrol. The world was wilder then. I had to lay her ashes there 60 odd years later. Good grief, I miss her something fierce - her and her mountains.

Your first day was to the same campsite I went to on my first day, except where Uncle Paul was crossing the creek I went down hard and was pretty sure I had ended my hike on day 1. Thankfully it was just a lot of bruising.
