Dude that’s epic! If you’ve got the fundamentals dialed in, then shooting 1400yde really isn’t that much different than 300 yds. Super cool you connected on the 3rd shot! Careful though…. Long range is addicting and it gets expensive fast haha

@@chrismuncey3861Honestly I found it almost easier. Probably cause I wasn’t expecting to hit anything haha. My dope from the Hornady app called for 17.9 Mils and I ended up at 15.6 mils of elevation so once we got that figured out it was pretty straight forward. Thankfully I have a 1,000 yard range on my property and shot the mile from the same spot up onto a hillside so am pretty comfortable with the environmentals of the area. Try it out sometime, it’s a lot of fun!

You know I fully expected to pretty much stop shooting 300prc when I got the 300bm barrel but that just isn’t the case. I like having both because the 300nm is an epic performer but for 95% of what I’m doing the 300prc just makes more sense.

@@MountainsMulletsMerica one thing I’ve been pondering is a way to test “precision firepower”, where at a given distance which caliber yields the most hits on target in a given timeframe. So at 500yds 5.56 gas probably wins out, but at 800 we’re probably looking at 6ARC taking over, then 6.5CM somewhere around 1k and 300prc past that. Idk just something I’ve been thinking about, where you balance external ballistics, ability to spot misses, gas vs bolt, etc to get the optimal caliber/platform combo for a given range and wind conditions. Just a thought. I live in WV so the max I can reliably see hilltop to hilltop is a half mile, so I built a 6ARC that I’m happy with for that distance.

Great video when I built my 30 caliber magnum I was stuck with a Remington 700 action so I did the 300 rum now to load that properly. It’s a single shot rifle because the cartridges are over 4 inches long. But with 33” barrel i got 3175 fps with 245 berger 3155 fps with 250 A-tip 3180 with cutting edge 240. Its a hammer. Between those I would pick the normal with 245 berger

Damned this Kid is good (I'm OLD heheh) Hey, good catch on that bipod, I''ve seen more than a few 'good' shooters miss that when setting up on the ground. Let me say something about the wind's influence over undulating ground at range. Perhaps, it's easier to visualize if you imagine you're trying to row a canoe across a river. If the riverbed is flat and uniform, then the speed and direction that the water is flowing is likely to be reasonably close to uniform along your path, thus calculating your desired offset to get from where you start to where you want to land on the far bank is pretty straightforward. HOWEVER, imagine your river not only varies in depth, but in the nature of the riverbed below. As every fisherman, or in fact anyone who's taken the time to observe a series of rivers will have seen, the rougher the riverbed, the greater number and SIZE of eddies, whirlpools etc. Now imagine this river you're trying to cross is 1800 yards or so...and you should have an idea of why long distance shooting over terrain, and NOT a prepared range, are two entirely different things. Oh, bye the way, the physics fellas tell me that rivers are actually pretty much REALLY THICK/WET air " streams " and if you pay attention, you'll actually hear meteorologists describing "atmospheric rivers" hehe. One other thing, with this young man's demonstrative breathing, sighting, and trigger manipulation skills, I would want to take a fresh look over his hand loading procedures as I was expecting better uniformity of performance from these cartridges as I have a 'wee bit of experience' with the Norma one, a 'bit' more with its bigger brother .338 Norma, and substantially MORE than 'just a bit' with the older .338 Lapua (LM) ;) Note that I'm talking cartridge uniformity out of the muzzle, not projectile impact 1800 yards down range in that wind:) xlnt video call out to the Mullet 👍

I think the best way for me to summarize my opinion is by saying I fully expected to park and potentially sell the 300PRC barrel once I got the 300NM barrel.... I was expecting the 300NM just to blow me away with how great it peforms. What I've found though is I'm shooting 300PRC just as much as I was before getting the NM barrel and I'm putting very few rounds through the NM. 300NM is an epic performer but for me the PRC does everything I need at a much lower price point and recoil level.

Oh man, if you're purely after the down range performance then I'd say 300NM without a doubt. As shown here it's pushing the higher BC heavier 250 ATIP at the same speed as the PRC is pushing the 230 ATIP making it a better performer at distance. Also in my experience, the PRC is really optimized for the 230 gr bullets.... I believe if you're wanting to go up to something like the 250s going to the NM is a requirement. That said though, I believe both calibers are epic performers. Thanks for the continued support!

Great video and excellent channel. You might want to invest in a full Rycote blimp and furry for your microphone. It’ll clean up the wind issues nicely. Rode also makes an acceptable one that’s a little more affordable. It’ll elevate your content even higher.

Super common question / comparison as a lot of shooters seem to be getting into ELR right now. I went PRC as I didn't want to be stuck with the, "proprietary" bolt face of the NM. Have you ever tried dialing wind? I find I'm able to be more precise using the dot in the center of the reticle. Keep slinging that lead!

Oh man if you’re after the highest performance possible from 30 cal, 300NM is the ticket. That’s why I plan to keep this barrel around. Funny you mention 338NM… I’ve actually been thinking I’d sell my 338LM barrel and swap to 338NM. I’m thinking the case design of the 338NM will let me run longer bullets with a little more flexibility in seating depth than I can with the LM.

Great shooting as usual! You can use a microphone "blimp" (best but expensive) or a "dead cat" to help block the wind noise. Use audio normalizing in your video editor so the volume doesn't go all over the place (there are digital wind noise filters there too but I've had mixed results).

Great info, thank you for sharing! I actually filmed this video a couple of months ago and unfortunately at the time I didn’t realize that my microphone wasn’t working correctly. Since then I’ve bought a new DJI mic setup which seems to have corrected the issue. Didn’t realize there was a way to correct wind noise during editing…. I’ll give that a try when I’m editing the next one of these older videos for launch. Appreciate the support!

Great video and always very informative I only wish would have compared both shooting preferably the 230s but even the 250s since you’re hand loading to get more of an apple for apple comparison and see how big of difference the higher velocities out of the NM made I do understand that these two weights made the velocities closer which is showing the advantage of higher weights and bc at basically the same velocity

Great video...great job! Very informative. I shoot an MRAD SMR 6.5CM. The range my buddies and I shoot at have steels from 100 to 600 yards. The CM is perfect for that. We are now wanting to stretch out to 1000 to 2000 yards... and I decided to get another SMR chambered in 300 PRC... but wondering if it would make more, better sense to sell my Creedmoor and purchase an MRAD with interchangeable barrels. What do you think? Thank you... and please keep up your great work.

Very fair feedback and in line with several other commenters. Part of the reason I like the NM is the ability to run the 250 class bullets with more velocity than the prc can… that said, I’m thinking I’ll revisit this down the road with a 230 load in each caliber…. Just need to work up a 230 load in the NM before I’m able to film and launch. Hope you’ll stay tuned!

I'd go with 300 Win Mag over 300 PRC or 300 Norna. The factory loadings in 300 Win Mag are nearly infinite and ammo can be found anywhere rifle ammo is sold for less than 300 PRC. The 300WM has VERY easy-to-find brass, too. It's still possible to push 230-grain Bergers out to 2000 yards with the proven, plentiful 300WM 🇺🇸
@brisketbaron

Yeah but 300 prc is out there in decent quantity and when ammo is scarce there’s going to be more ppl buying up the 300 win mag. Plus that ancient 300 win mag case design. But you’re right you’re much more likely to find 300 win mag at Walmart. Definitely a plus.

Building my 1st 300 prc off a christchensen action in a krg chassis with a proof ss barrel. I've been shooting 6.5cm out of a stock rpr then a white oak then a proof barrel for about 5 years. Wanting that Kinda accuracy in I 200 plus grain projectile. Seems doable Apparently your having no issues. The rpr vs barrett 300 video was crazy. I never thought the white oak or the proof barrel in my rpr were necessarily any more accurate than the factory which says a lot for the rpr.

Standard magnum boltface vs 338LM bolt face. That seemingly small difference means you need a much larger and more expensive action in most cases. MRAD doesn’t matter, but many guns need significantly different actions so that yes, while the 300NM is faster and packs more punch, it means a much heavier and more expensive setup that is pretty hard on barrels compared to the PRC.
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica 7 ай бұрын
Man this is a great point I even think about…. Had I not been running an mrad the NM would require much more cost in the action. I’m thinking I’ll revisit this video topic down the road with the same bullet weight in each caliber. I’ll try to work this commentary into that revisit as this is a great point that needs to be shared!

@@MountainsMulletsMerica I’m looking forward to it. Looking just at barreled action costs, you can put together a 300PRC on a Zermatt action for as little as $2000 or so with a prefit barrel. A 300NM barreled action will run you another $500+ just for the barreled action. MRAD is a more comprehensive package than just a lock, stock, and barrel kind of build, so of course it costs a bit more. That said, the PRC costs a lot less to run- the brass is much less, the barreled action is much less, the barrel life cost is much less, etc. So for me it’s not a case of the the NM being more capable- of course it is. To me it’s about whether that increase in capability is worth the big step up in cost.
@MrCooper89

@G5Hohn Having an MRAD is way cooler than a generic bolt-gun. Plus the fact you can buy entirely different barrels and easily swap them just makes it more appealing. Barrett will even provide offers where you can buy barrels for around $900.

If your aim is to get as good of information about how they stack up against each other then they should be shooting the same bullet apples to apples and at about the same speeds then and only then can you see effect of case , primer etc. Also I would true both calibers data and dial the solution the Impact gives you and use the center dot it is much more precise .
