This worked like charm ! I mounted two stock Nissan frontier rims - 17” x 7.5” with Hankook Dynapro AT2 - LT265/70R17 tires. The installation of the inner side popped on so easy I could not believe it. As recommended, I used tire dressing as a lubricant on the tire and the edge of the rims. I followed your directions for the outer side of the tire by stand on it and inching up on the right then the left per your video. The last 6 to 10 inches it popped right in as I moved my feet towards the top. I am 180 lbs but I don’t think weight was any factor. I also utilized a 4 x 4 piece of wood under the upper portion per your video. It took about 5 or 6 minutes for mounting the first tire. The second about 3 minutes. Thanks SO MUCH - you are the MAN.

It helps too if you do this on a warm day like 80 degrees, let the tires sit in the sun for like 30 minutes.

It can be. You can do it yourself easily if your tires have a large sidewall like the ones in the video. The mechanics at the tire shop even struggle to mount a low profile tire using the tire machine.

I'm surprised how fast those tires came on! It took me about 3 hours to get my 215/65 R16 winter tires onto the rims! Needed a crowbar too! Nice video btw, I think the same about tire-shops, it's the only reason I wanted to do it myself. Also would love to have a pickup truck! Cheers

With a truck sidewall, this is fine. Four those of us with modern cars from the modern age, 65 ratio sidewalls is about the limit of what you can do. I haven’t seen a single video of anybody mounting a moderately, hello sidewall tire yet. That would be interesting to see.

Good job. I would never have believed that you could do that without tire irons. I do my own motorcycle tires all the time, but I only did the tires on my Tacoma once and it was pretty difficult (same size tires as yours). Now I've got a 4Runner, and I've got some new wheels. I'm going to give your technique a shot. Thanks.
@lestermarten46563 жыл бұрын
Well, I gave it a shot. Couldn't even get the first side of the tire on the wheel. Even with the tire in the drop center part of the wheel, I couldn't get it past halfway on. Last time I used tire iron and scratched up my wheels pretty bad. This time I've got new wheels so I don't want to mess them up.

AWESOME TECHNIQUE - great video - Do yourself a favor and buy an old school level balancer at harbor freight - between that and your eyeballs ( and a little patience ! ) I can balance 35's / 37's and 40's to within a gram - including the sweet spot to position the weights on the rim - ( You will need a power drill and laser line for that ) It's VERY EASY to learn how to do and costs less than getting them done at a shop .. ONCE... ha.
@peterpurol7873 Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that with lower profile tires (as you'd explained) I could probably use crowbars (wrapped in electrical tape to protect the rim) to coax the tires (275/40R17) onto the rim efficiently. What say you to that idea? Never tried it ever. Might work.
@ColonelBummleigh2 жыл бұрын
Good stuff. New tyres are another deal altogether though as the bead and walls on mine are as rigid as the tyre tread :( Am trying to find a way to get the bead into the wheel well so thay can go on.

Drop center goes ↑. Good tips and ideas on lube too. I was thinking about bar soap. I've used trans fluid and soapy water in different applications. I don't know if the transmission fluid will attack the tire over time.
@josephhomen4 ай бұрын
Do NOTuse transmission fluid or any petroleum products on a tire. You could use soapy water or even tire shine but the lube that we used at the tire shop was essentially just soap.

first video with "caveats"and have seen a few now. small tyres eg normal sedan size are very hard to remove and mount. in my case, I was out $16 AUD for levers and this is a third of the wheel change cost.

Small as in low profile tires will be hard to mount. The bigger the side wall the easier it will be.

Tire pressure gauge. Don’t go over maximum pressure written on the side of the tire. Hit tire with hammer (not wheel) to cause vibration. Helps to pop it in.
