Considerations of stagnation
--
Eyy, it’s been a while! :)
I’m still kind of reeling over what happened during the Season 8 Evil Xisuma storyline and the implications it has for his character. It was fun, but one thing that left me confused was EX’s character regression. Season 8 EX is a very different (and worse) person from who he was in previous seasons, even before he was redeemed, and we don't really get a reason why. Micer2012’s theory proposed a plausible in-universe explanation: Season 8 EX is under the influence of Jeff the Minion’s Midas Curse.
Being a sucker for possession arcs, I latched on hard, which is why this animatic exists.
Anyways, stay safe, have a happy holidays, and thank you for your support!
Other notes:
- I'm stretching both canon and the theory a bit, especially towards the end- most of this video was outlined before the Big Moon plotline wasn't even a thing, and when I added in the ending, it hadn't crashed into the server and Evil X hadn't decided to skip town. The moon breaking is a metaphor now, LOL.
- In Micer's theory, Evil X isn't consciously aware of the Midas Curse, but I kind of changed that for the sake of drama.
- I like to think of this animatic as a reworking of Saint Bernard. Some of the ideas in my AU coincidentally ended up becoming canon or compliant with Micer's theory, so there's quite a few similar elements, even if the trajectories of the stories pretty different. Saint Bernard was meant to be the setup for a wider storyline where EX ultimately became an antihero, haha. There's still the possibility of Season 8 Evil X being entirely simulated as part of the Hermatrix, so there's some hope for them in those regards.
