Even with the cost of inflation Chinatown will always be able to keep their prices as fair as possible for cheap eats! Yummy!
@ninja_tony2 жыл бұрын
That’s true! And a big part of it is because by design, most of the Chinatown businesses banded together years (decades maybe?) ago to buy the buildings they were housed in, and so they are never affected as badly as most other local businesses by the rental market or the economy in general. Sure the inflation we’re all dealing with right now impacts every business, but they are in a better position to mitigate that than most businesses can, especially in Manhattan.

Perfect timing, I am visiting the city (chinatown specifically) to watch the Lunar New Year parade in a few weeks! We were thinking of trying to hit up Joe's Shanghai to get the famous soup dumplings, but we dont know how easy that'll be on the day of the parade, I imagine there will be a line out the door.

Cool video, thanks for sharing all these nice and authentic local places to try. There is this small Malaysian restaurant right off Chinatown on Grand St. in little Italy, it's called NYONYA, and it's my favorite restaurant in NYC. Food is very affordable and the quality of their dishes is very good, I recommend their Prawn Mee and Curry Mee with shredded chicken from the noodles in soup part of the menu. You won't regret it. Also, as a plus, their manu has pictures of every single item they offer, It makes it very easy to order.

hello hbb, the atmosphere sound were closer to dinner hours - the hours for lunch is 10 to 2pm still. the cost all marked up 15% - they are at the nicest location with 4 restaurants a must in the town - the beijing duck house with second location in midtown. the ajisen noodle house is an underground place for the kids that were overnight gamers in the area. the kids used to ask if it is teriyaki or noodle today. the teriyaki is break walk to the pier food court. it was the beef sukiyaki or the chicken. the sushi fridge stall was by the porch doors facing brooklyn. elle for tempura

hello, may you note that the bun with red marking on top is usually sweet buns with lotus paste - the roast pork is more mountain with a small opening. thank you. el-

We went to Ping’s a week ago. It was crowded, but seemed to be mostly tourists. Was kinda shocked by prices - the main courses were $20-$40, that felt quite a lot for Chinatown. We actually walked away and went to a nearby spot that felt more authentic (we were the only non-Asians there), less fancy, and with half the price.

I would describe dim sum as Chinese tapas. It’s small plates. It’s traditionally served during breakfast brunch hours, but there are other things you could have for breakfast. Some places even serve it for dinner now. It literally means touch the heart, meaning it isn’t supposed to completely sate your appetite.

I thought you'd pay more in the big apple.. in a county town 35 miles from the big city fried rice was $8 alone, no way 3 of these would be under $20, unless I hit a lunch special menu.. then 4 blocks from where I used to live if you took their buffet, it's $13.95 and their parking lot is hardly full, probably half at most. But I love my Szechuan beef, a friend turned me on to it in DC bringing some to me.. my roommate does the cooking, tries hard, but it's not it..
