On this episode we move a Gas Range using protective board to stop the floors from being scratched. This can be done with any Heavy Appliance, that way you do not damage your hardwood, tile, or linoleum floors.

I have to do this tomorrow, but was thinking of just pulling the oven up and forward about 6", and then sliding a piece of 1" PVC underneath it. Drop over on pipe, and pull from the back while pushing down on the front to get it to ride the pipe out. Gonna be smart and hit the big box store for a piece of masonite first though, because undoubtedly the pipe will snag somehow, and I'll end up having to drag it out. Masonite is cheap the the BB stores, and seems like oven manf's don't care about accessibility..... Nice tip.

Should we turn the gas off to the house before we move it out?

Anyone have suggestions on the Masonite to get? If you have an Amazon/Home Depot/ Lowe’s link, feel free to share. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Because every time your house hit the brakes, the oven would roll to the opposite wall of the kitchen.

Because...kids. anti tip brackets exist because kids would open the oven door, push down on it , and anything on the top of the stove would fall onto the kid and burn them or bludgeon them. I can't imagine rollers on a stove/oven would end well with children around.

i have a new gas range installed, but the installers didn't use a levelers to level the range....with the gas primed into the unit, can i move the gas range and readjust the height and put it back into its original spot? is this a fire hazard or is this safe?
@measuretwicetv2281
@measuretwicetv2281 Жыл бұрын
Perfect safe. Gentle pull the range out as far as it will go, be careful not to put to much tension on the gas line, adjust, check for leaks, gentle push it back. If you smell gas, get a wrench to tighten the fitting.

how do you push it back it place? the masonite wasn't flus to the wall when he pulled the sto out.
@measuretwicetv2281
@measuretwicetv2281 4 ай бұрын
Great question. I left a space between the wall and the masonite on purpose. If you made the board flush to the wall, it would be very difficult to slide out the masonite. I usually leave a one foot space. Push the back legs on to the floor, if you scratch the floor under the stove in the back, you'll never see it and this is an acceptable method. The key is not to scratch the floor in the visual areas by keeping the masonite on the front legs and bringing the entire range (and back legs) on to the full boards.

Could you sub out the Masonite with flattened cardboard boxes?

I would say no. You risk tearing the cardboard and damaging the floor.

I’ve been trying to convince my dad that we NEED to clean under/around our oven. My parents have lived in this house for almost 30 years and have NEVER done it. It’s a huge issue. My dad says it can’t be moved bc the gas line will break. 😭

me and my coworker just lift them out of the range hole and set them safely down by hand. always take a second person with you when moving appliances around just in case. boards like that dont fit well in a pickup truck with the other list of tools i have inside. this might be acceptable at home by yourself but as a professional appliance installer i would not use this method. if you insist on using this method however, a single quarter inch sheet of plywood wider then 30 inches and about 30 to 60 inches in length would have done the same thing without damaging a floor.

Your taking a huge risk not placing some type of protection under your appliance. One accidentally bump on the appliance and you’ve scratched or indented the floor. These boards fit perfectly fine in your pickup or behind the seat, which is better. Quite honestly, I buy new boards for each home I work in. As long as you keep the bottom side free of dirt and sand they’ll last forever. I always give them to the client to store on the side of the refrigerator or in their garage. And I have to say using plywood on flooring is also problematic. Great way to scratch the floor.Hardboard (Masonite) has a felt side which protects the floor from scratching. I’ve moved fully loaded refrigerators with this technique for over 35 years and it’s never failed me once. The main trick is to make sure the appliance doesn’t come off the boards when your sliding it.

Thats great for someone working with someone else, however most of the time homeowner trying to do this doesn't have someone else on hand. Seems like the really non-professional way to do it, is as you suggest. Chiropractors love you guys, while the old hand's have 3-4 sheets of this or 1/4" plywood or that 1/8" 4x8 from HD for $15. You can easily fit this behind your seats, or stash them flat inside a garbage bag in the back of the truck. Only takes on slip to jack up someone's floor, and fixing that is gonna be lost time and $$ fixing well above the cost of this reuseable piece/s.
