The lesson learned here is that you need to think about all of your options when making a decision. Don't just think about living in a van if your rent is too expensive. If your rent is too expensive, find a cheaper place to live, find a roommate who will contribute towards the rent, or get a higher paying job. Explore all the possibilities. Don't think about one option only. Living in a van is not the only thing that you can do if your rent is too expensive. If there is a problem, there can be more than one solution to that problem.
@donaldlyons17 Жыл бұрын

If a person owns a van it is the best way to cut your living expenses 95%. Can still explore possibilities while accumulating all the money you are saving. This is one of the reasons why I was easily able to avoid debt early in life and keep it that way.

I told her I wasn't about to make less than her and pay all the bills while she saved all her money. She ended up living with her sister and we broke up anyways. A few years later I started making 40k and came across an old coworker of mine making $100k and I told her we going 50/50 if she want to be with me and she agreed. We ended up getting married (now we bring home $160k together). I say that to say this... let your girl know your expectations and if she mad she can get to steppin. My favorite blog for van life has been going strong for over a decade, it's called Tiny House, Tiny Footprint. They share stories of people doing this. Idk I started to think that van life would be harder than owning a house - there would be constant repairs, every week figuring out where to park/sleep, and if you don't have a shower in your vehicle, using public showers. $1200 rent isn't bad. That's really good for the Atlanta area. The low-income and non-paying roommate (girlfriend) is the real issue. I'd start working on the side, build up more of a skillset, get a GED, and in a year from now, ask for a raise or find someone else who will increase my salary.

@@stevenporter863 John's advice on his own show is usually spot on. Sometimes on Ramsey Solutions the team's advice is questionable. John is my favorites on Ramsey Solutions. He seems to get the everyday Joe more than the others. Do you agree? Ken is also good, but he thinks kids should works and is wary about college. I get it and don't disagree totally, but I do not agree either. Look John is the best out of all of them. Ramsey himself is out of touch with modern times, but a nice older guy, but a little cracky at times.

@@DominickSpanoMy opinion: Dave himself is out of touch. Ken and Rachel mostly seem in touch with the regular guy but I get the feeling John always looks for a psychological answer and creates a problem to solve.
@DominickSpano Жыл бұрын
@@stevenporter863 Some people say that about John. Frankly I think his skill set works better on his own show b/c the majority of the callers are calling about a psychological issue type. On Ramsey it is usually a financial issue that yes can be linked to psychological matters, but this is certainly not always the case. I never felt his skills were really completely necessary for Ramsey Solutions when they straight up talk about finance. Dave is extremely out of touch with modern day.

The internet is great for certain things. However social media has made everyone think they are influencers. It's just not as easy or fun as they make it seem. I would have the difficult rent conversation with the girlfriend. And keep hustling to generate more income.

There is nothing wrong with living in a car or van while starting over. At least he has a job. If he could do that for a year, he would be fine. By that time, he might have more experience with the company and get that raise. Right now, he sounds like a just a hired extra hand. Once he apprentices under a Service Technician, then he will make the bigger bucks.
