Yup lifelong SE Michigan resident - it's great here! I grew up in Rochester Hills and live in Clarkston now - both great suburbs! Relatively affordable housing, abundant nearby greenspaces and lakes. The perpetual low stratus clouds and cold from November through March aren't that bad considering no floods, no earthquakes, almost no wildfire risk, no hurricanes, abundant fresh water, not that many severe storms. I'll take our continental climate any day

Agreed!! And, the cold isn't that bad anymore. Clarkston is awesome! I need to shoot some content about the area.

My parents, older brother, and I moved from Westland to Ft. Lauderdale area in 1973. Hated it so much. We moved back up to Michigan in 1980-1981, moving to Cheboygan County. I was SO HAPPY as an 8-year old. I have lived in this state (Metro Detroit and now, southern Genesee County) for 44 straight years and would NEVER want to live anywhere else (except maybe McHenry County, IL). Michigan is such an amazing state!

Agree wholeheartedly! What is oft overlooked is that you are 5 hours from Chicago, and a day away from the East Coast.

Just lived through Helene in NC. I want out!!! I’m moving back to my home state, MI. 😊 I’ve missed it so much. I thought I lived in a climate safe zone - not even a little bit. This down was devastated. Three months out and it’s still a wreck here. News barely covered it. Asheville NC is a cesspool of homelessness and overpriced homes both. I really can’t wait to get back.

Yikes! Definitely not fun. Where in Michigan are you moving to? If we can help, reach out! Movingmi.com/info/KZbin

@ well it won’t be for a few years, so I’ll be in the planning and research stage for a while. I’m open to suggestions on where. I’m from the Detroit area but would prefer somewhere more rural and further north.

I also read the book by Parag Khanna you mentioned at the beginning. It's very insightful and not just for Michigan/USA but all over the globe looking at several reasons why people (especially younger generations) are choosing to move, where and how. Cool video, glad to see it and thanks for making it!

You are absolutely right. I moved away from Michigan for the 1st time in my life. For the water alone, Michigan has the best tasting water. Water here in Florida absolutely stinks and is super hard. Oh we are always on water restrictions here also. These hurricanes down here are ridiculous.

How long ago did you move to Florida? I wouldn't mind the warmth but I'd pass on all the other stuff 😆

@@PaulWolfert a little over a year ago. Probably will be here for another year for my work contract. Then I'm leaving. The heat isn't all what it's cracked up to be. It gets unbearably hot and is uncomfortable just to be outside. Most days during the summer. I thought it was going to be fun living here since I vacation her a lot but, sadly it doesn't feel like home here.

As someone from the east coast I was shocked how nice the weather is all the time in Indiana,Illinois and Ohio area. Not humid or too snowy and always a nice breeze . It does get cold in winter though

Two weeks ago, my company held a conference here at the Eagle Crest Marriott, very close to where I live, and we had employees up from Florida, South Carolina, Mexico and over from Poland, as well as clients and others in the industry. I picked up the two ladies from South Carolina, and we went on a small ride around a little bit of Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor and they were so impressed with just how beautiful our state is. They don't get the fall change there, and they loved Ann Arbor so much with the quaint neighborhoods and lively downtown. Naturally, I had to take them by the Ypsi watertower and the Big House. They have both been over in the summer once and I know one of them has been over twice in January, but I think this was a great time for them to visit because it's not ridiculously cold to them and a real fall season is an experience they don't have in their area. They don't experience our winters, either, but it's also not as fun to drive or walk around at that time.

I looked at Michigan and southern Illinois when I researched places to move to when I retired and I decided on Southern Illinois. The Flint thing played a part in my decision. I'm not particularly fond of Michigan politics. Gotta tell you, I love Southern Illinois weather.
@keelingcurve58Ай бұрын
This is partially true based on your opinion. However NO state will be spared the effects from climate change. Vermont and western NC proved that .Michigan scores 72 on climate change preparedness, while the coastal state Connecticut score 92. Extreme heat CT has a better score of 11 best, while Michigan is lower down the list at 24. CT is more adapted to heat with most new homes built since 1990 having central air. Are tornadoes becoming a bigger risk for Michigan? The southern part of the state has seen an uptick in Tornadoes- the state has a whole has not seen more tornadoes- but stronger ones. Climate change poses many costly risks to Michigan residents, including an increase in severe storms, extreme winter weather, fluctuations in lake levels, and hotter temperatures. The state in 2024 was won by Trump- a climate change denier. Every state faces risks- how state government reacts to those risks reduces loss of life and extreme damages.

Michigan is a beautiful state, I'll give you that especially the UP. Unfortunately, from the governor on down, the politics are garbage. Give it a few years; all that amazing beauty will be as insufferable as California. They'll continue to vote more and more left, and with that, crime will continue to rise and get out of control.
