I'm actually learning a ton of things about cities in general and thinking about how some of the stuff in the area I live came to be. The process and board meetings that went into city planning. The realization that bike lines prevent parking. The trade-offs to nearly everything. Why I see traffic in certain areas and why I never see 18 wheelers going through my neighborhood. All very fascinating stuff, thank you for this.

Some notes for the public transport: The bus line drawn in this episode is not that effective on its own, because it doesn't really bring people anywhere they want to go - except between residential and their nearby shopping area, but mostly they could also walk here. They still need their car to go to work in the industrial area. If you have a bus line from the residential area to the industrial area, then it will actually be used by many people. Or if you have a bus line connecting with the one drawn here and going to the industry, both will be used. (And as mentioned, later you want to use metro or trains for the heavier used connections.) Tram has a bit higher capacity than buses (like 100 per vehicle, I think), and there are tram roads which are not shared with streets (so less conflicts with cars), so it's an intermediate step between bus and metro. Trains have even higher capacity than metro (and also higher cost). Ferries is a special-purpose transport for watery maps (just for people, unfortunately there is no combined people+car/truck ferry option), and blimps/helicopters is just a gimmick which is not really useful, except for looks, and maybe in rural areas where there is low demand and no useful road. (The problem is that many more people try to use it than it can actually handle.) Also, I think the "Old town" policy in Lilac Heights did cut off any possibility of cars/trucks from the outside (or the industry) to reach the new district Mulberry Heights, except by going the very long way through the new tourism district (Summit Square)

When creating pedestrian crosswalks on long streets I like to mix tree lined with tree median. Tree median at the end of the street, tree lined in the middle usually.

Any time I try to make my roundabout like that, the exit lanes into a regular road also caused the road sign on the ground to let cims to take a right and straight turn but I don’t want them to make a right turn from exiting the roundabout to a regular road

When I did the tourism designation, it built those cool big hotels and casinos, then they started screaming for educated workers. It put a spotlight on the fact that I didn’t build much education...so heads up. Also I think it effected the budget big-time because all the sudden I found myself in the red. I took the designation of of it after the buildings began to become vacant, and I managed to pull out of the red at some point close to all that. I’m almost ready to put the designation back on it.

I'm guessing you will never read this but transit should run clockwise around it's coverage area. That way people don't have to cross the road that the bus is on. Also right turns limit crossing over traffic with the transit.

Have a map with lots of oil but it's 2 areas away from my main industrial area & that's where my power plants are. it's a long commute for my oil trucks but they get there pretty consistently.

There should be an app that let's you google map your city and converts it to city skyline blueprints so u can easily build the town you live in lol I think that would be cool

There was one but it's now defunct. Check out my season 7 PC build. At the very beginning I build the map, and I used a plotting site to put real world terrain into Cities.

Hay there. Thanks for this great little series. I've been playing on Xbox since late last year so I'm no expert but picking up a few new tricks. One question if I may, at the beginning of the video you had a group of abandoned business in your industrial zone but you didn't show how you delt with them. I've found the only option is to delete them and let them respawn. I know there's an auto bulldoze mod for PC but not for console. Is there a better way to deal with those abandoned buildings?

Hey buddy, I play on PS$. Click on the building in question and see what the issue is. I think in Move the Mouses case, he mentioned there wasn't enough workers. So he started to zone in more residential. Another issue might be educated workers so you'll have to add schools/high schools/universities. And then start to balance the education levels of your workers through policies.

Closer is usually better for the ones that require resources (coal, oil) but renewable can go anywhere. Just put a fire department nearby.

Can somebody help answering my question please lol I'm on ps4, if I apply the schools out (more people will work rather than go to school) policy in one of my districts will does cims go to another district to work if that district is out of work? In other words I have an oil industry focused district in need of workers meanwhile all my other districts including a forestry district are ok and my needs for housing are perfect.....reason why I mentioned my forestry focused district is because that's the district that also has the schools out policy and I have residents there since theres not much pollution. That's probably caused by a traffic issue. If the garbage trucks can't physically get to where the buildup is then they can't take the waste away. This game kind of revolves around proper traffic management, every service requires access which is impacted by traffic. Take a look at your road network and see if there are bottlenecks in traffic flow and make sure that the garbage trucks can actually reach all of your city, remember that the further they need to travel, the longer it will take to clear the waste and if they have to travel all the way across the city and back again, you'll get garbage buildup that sits there a while.

Also make sure to spread your garbage facilities because otherwise all your garbage trucks will be stuck somewhere

It's part of the After Dark DLC, which has been free on multiple occasions, and is included in the base console versions at this point as far as I know.
