Fun fact, the reason some PS2 games have blue disks is because they're CDs. Those games are so small in file size that they can't justify the 4GB DVD disk.

12:41 Bought the G-Force game during a sale a few months ago because why not. While there are a few bugs here and there, it's a surprisingly good game. The enemies have amazing animations and they can be decently difficult to defeat. The levels are pretty intuitive and pleasant to navigate. If you find the game on a discount, I highly recommend it. I also want to add that the developers did an amazing job adapting the game to different systems. The PSP port looks surprisingly faithful to the home console version (although they apparently removed guns from that one, most shooter games on the PSP didn't feel very good so I can see why they did that), but what's even more impressive is the DS port. I'm pretty sure the levels are a bit different, and the animations are quite janky, but I appreciate how much effort they put into giving you a similar experience even on the weakest system.

@@seb.alston Disney made some unironically good games back in the day. A great example is Toy Story 3, probably one of the best animated movie tie-in games ever made (although the PC port has many issues, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are the best). I also played Tangled (PC) when I was a kid, replayed it again a month or two ago, it didn't age that well but it's a very inoffensive game that has its charm. I also heard the WALL-E game (particularly the PS2 version) is quite good. Cars and Ratatouille games seem to be liked too, though specific ports are better than the others. Disney knew what they were doing back then.

Great video man, as someone who grew up in the golden age of these games this caters to a very specific niche that feels tailor-made for me. Spider-Man, Lego Star Wars and Cars were some of my favorite movie-based games from back then, so it made me so happy to see you talk about them! I also LOVED the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and owned that game for a brief time but yeah...I'm pretty sure I traded it in not too long after lol. Hope your channel becomes more successful, you definitely deserve it! 😄

The PS2 sorta has 2 different Laser options. It's common for them to either read only blue or only clear games, as a lot are a bit knackered with age

20:20 I've played the Cat In The Hat console game, and I'd say it much more monotonous than awful. The first two levels are pretty good IMO, but they don't introduce any significant new mechanics after the 2nd level, so it's just various different configurations of a handful of basic mechanics after that. The different level aesthetics are pretty fire though tbh, they're all based on different sorts of appliances like clocks and fridges. Don't know many other games where you have an entire level based on the inside of a car engine. Personally, I have a lot of appreciation for licensed games as a medium... which is why I really want to try getting into the development of them as part of my career!! They're slowly coming back into vogue, so I think it's a good time to see if I can convince companies that they have real merit and that investing money into making them stand on their own is good for the brand. I really think the money issue could be solved by going for more retro-y aesthetics as are popular in indie games.

@@seb.alston Based take, I've heard it's pretty funny despite being so wildly off in every way from its source material (IIRC it's the reason the Seuss estate now prohibits live action Seuss works). I've seen some clips and reviews and the deliberately jarring universal studios plug is so good LMAO I really think the console game could've been great if they had time to iterate on the core mechanics more, it lays out a strong foundation. Controls could use a little tweaking as well

The one game I'll always see in a good light is Ratatouille (Wii, Gamecube) as it's pretty fun, there's stuff to do and they didn't just copy paste the exact same story. Brave too although a little boring had better music than the movie. Although I agree with the take on handheld games, it was fun seeing the pixel art sprites of your favorite movie character

i'm not too far in, but great video! i'd love to share one of my favourite 2000s movie (or rather, cartoon) game. zombie ninja pro am is a 2007 ps2 game, based on athf. i dare you to guess the genre. wrong. it's a golf fighter kart racer hybrid. although i guess it captures the weirdness of the show. i've never actually played it but according to the reviews it is supposedly TERRIBLE: 37% on Metacritic, 5/10 on IGN and 3.5/10 on GameSpot. i know a few people who have played it; its supposedly slow, clunky and frustrating. there is a saving grace to it, though. and that is the cutscenes. they're written with the same charm as the actual episodes, all the original vas are there, and MOST characters translate pretty well into 3D. they're up on youtube and are pretty neat if you're a fan of the show like me. if you ever do a part 2 or something, it would be great if you gave it a go!
