The alternate head on this figure reminds me more of Prince Adam than He-Man with that giddy smile. This is a fine figure but I'm in 100% agreement that Super 7wins all around. The only detail where Mattel one up'd Super 7 was the cape. I do like the muted red and gold design. I thought about swapping the armor/cape with Super 7's but then the gold deco on his armor and boots won't match up. I also never realized until now that Super 7 never had the actor's likeness rights, because it does such a great job at looking quite similar to Dolph, in my opinion. I don't want to use my Suoer 7 "Dolph-like" head for this figure but then I thought about the alternate head that Super 7 gave us as well. That head sculpt was never my favorite either, but still looks better on this Masterverse figure than the 2 heads that Mattel gave us.

Didn't have the rights for Dolph's head for the toy, but the art on the side of the box looks exactly like him lol. Thats weird!

If I remember correctly that extra head was meant for the 40th He Man. If you had to heat up the movie head just to remove it then I'm guessing it's like most of the WWE figures where the heads aren't meant to be removed because that neck cracking happens alot on those if you try taking the heads off before heating them up. 13:00 Tbh that bearded head doesn't look too bad as an alt look for movie He Man.

It's too bad the faces can't be a Dolph likeness. I love the outfit directly matches the movie costume. I'm definitely getting this figure and Skeletor. I wonder if we'll get Gwildor and God Skeletor. The head looks more like a guy who got a botched injection procedure.

As far as the likeness goes in regards to the Head sculpt: 1) if you compare it to the original concept art that William Stout drew, the faces look very similar so maybe it's specifically based on that face. 2) funny enough I honestly thought it looked a bit like Mark Pillow (Nuclear Man) who I just recently found out was Canon Studios top pick to replace Dolph in the unmade Masters sequel 3) Also just a funny observation, the head sculpt looks a lot like a combination between Joe Piscopo and Martin Kove

Mattel can't seem to get He-Man's head right, but HordakMX has pretty much nailed it every time. I'm getting one of his custom heads for this one and I recommend him to everyone not satisfied with the retail heads.

Please be careful opening the Movie Skeletor. When I removed him, the plastic cape sculpt ripped a hole in the soft goods cape.

I wasn't collecting when Classics was around and as a fan of the movie, I'm glad to finally have something that represents the Dolph He-man...even if the face is a little...off. Skeletor however was amazingly well done.

The only issue with further Movie figures is those likeness rights. Movie Evil Lyn won't be the same if she doesn't look like Meg Foster.

I use the origins wind swept he-man head that comes with flying fists he man on this figure. For me the screaming facial expression works with the more realistic masterverse body. Great review as always Dan.

So you didn't show it with the armor off? That's really the only reason to get this figure for me, since the Super7 one doesn't have removable armor.

the 40th anniversary he-man is my favorite modern he-man so far and i would buy this one too i think it is cool. picked a battle cat up off clearance tonight that was a nice score.

I really want this figure cuz I've always wanted a movie He-Man. But I just can't bring myself to buy it because every time I see that head, it just kills it for me. It looks so good, but then I see that head and it's just so depressing.

I definitely agree about the cape. I loved those gold details in the movie, and how they matched the banners hanging in the throne room. This cape color is much better than the Super7's, as well. I'm just happy that these figures will be easier to find than the Super7 movie figures! I preordered the He-Man and Skeletor, but I'll probably pick up an extra if I spot them in a store. One to rock and one to stock. :P

That alternate He-man head reminds me a lot of the work of the Mattel in house sculptors. Reminds me a lot of the Superman and other sculpting of the earlier Batman line when it's the Four horsemen sculpting Batmen and the villains and a few that werent just stands out so badly.

I wonder if they'll do a 200X, Masterverse He-Man and Skeletor? As for the head, I wonder why they can't just take the mold from the Classics head and slightly modify it for this body. But overall, I'd love to see the other movie characters get Masterverse figures.

Face looks like a mix between the stunt man for Arnold’s Conan and Ron Perlman. This actually looks like a good base for an ERB John Carter of Mars figure. Not the movie version (Gambit/FNL-? dude), but the literary version. Is that what the movie was going for, a reverse John Carter story? Easy pass for me, unless Target has another clearance sale coming up.

The neck of my first one literally snapped while turning it around. I couldn’t get the head to pop off. I had to struggle with all my strength to pop it off. Was even harder getting the second head on. As I went to turn the head it wouldn’t turn, so I forced it too. That is what snapped the neck. I took that back to target and replaced it.

Hi! Brian from Super7 once told me that S7 got the rights to Dolph Lundgren for the MOTUC figure. For this reason the S7 figure came with two heads: One with the likeness and another more cartoony.

Great review Dan! Yeah even with the whole rights issue, the movie head is horrible. How anyone signed off on this to be the final production version is beyond me. The vintage inspired head looks ok but I agree that none of the Masterverse He-Man heads have nailed it. How were Super 7 able to sculpt such a good generic head but Mattel can't? I will take Classics headsculpts over these any day, lol.

Thanks for the great abs honest review! I love this figure! The cape the look but not the head sculpt. I totally got a custom online which looks like the super 7 and it makes this figure perfect! It’s no my favorite masterverse figure. With a line this big there’s going to be some misses, I’m just thrilled they are putting out movie figures. I love the movie Skeletor figure hoping for the golden God skeletor and the Sorceress. Thanks again for the video and keep up the great work!

I'm suprised you didn't try the alternate head that came with the super7 figure, i would like to know how it looks on the body. I personally am convinced that the reason why the new head isn't liked by almost anyone is the area between the upper lip and the nose. The space is as long as the nose itself wich gives the lower half of the face an elongated look similar to an ape.

whoever is in charge of human head sculpts just doesn't do a good job that's been my biggest complaint since day one back in 2020 every time I've picked up a figure thinking it'll be better in person I end up giving it to my nephew, It's really hard to compete with the four horsemen. like it or not, that's the standard I know a lot of people like to defend these new figures, but I think once the shiny newness wears off history will speak for itself. I think what people are really attracted to is the price point especially when you compare it to classics I will say they do a good job on creature and fantasy head sculpts

From what I've seen, the same head sculpt is used on teh New Adventures figure with different hair and it's so derpy!!! I still need the figure tho, it'll probably get the New Eternia head and that can get the goofy helmet back I guess.

Super7 headsculpt got Dolph Lundgren's jaw correct, whereas this new Mattel version got the 'Lex Luger' face correct but clearly not Dolph Lundgren. From the initial preview images to the reviews, to me, this new head looks very much like WWF Lex Luger! 😅

I just got this figure and for some reason the lower part of the sword sheath has molded plastic in the slot so the sword can’t actually go in it. Anyone else have this issue?

Seems like an ok figurr. But the Super7 that I own is truly great figure like their movie Langella Skel. It needed the right eye color but they based it on the William Stout concept art but the likeness is pretty close like their Schwarzenegger Conan.

I think. Except. For the shade and extra paint the masterverse is way better. Proportion and articulationwise just the head sculpt is horrible so I used that body and suoer 7 head

I am happy with my Super7 version. Paint apps, likeness and sculpt is way superior. But will still get the Masterverse version if it drops in my country

The face sculpt really sucks but I am super happy to be able to get this figure (when it comes out in OZ) as I missed out on the Super 7 and now it is so expensive there's no way id be taking it out of the packaging. So this ticks (most) of the boxes

Unless things changed I heard from another KZbinr that RAMEN TOYS will produce a more movie accurate head for sale unless things change. I agree that the head that comes with he does not work for me. The overall figure is great other than the head.

The head looks like he has fangs just from the glare on his lips… I think Dolph, if it were his decision, would have totally permitted his likeness! And it would’ve sold tons more as Dolph not a half-melted wax-statue. Someone in the chain of corporate dealings, made a mistake and cheated themselves out of a TON of money! Not gonna buy it! I want Skeletor *if* they get his face right (which doesn’t really resemble Langella at all; like Tim Curry’s “Darkness” from Legend). Oh oh, he just zoomed in on the head! It’s a mix of Barbie & Jem!

The figure is really cool for anyone who missed the Classics version. A custom head (which actually looks like Dolph) and this figure together is probably cheaper than buying a classic today. But it really bothers me that there is no hand with a trigger finger. It's not a big deal, but New Eternia Zodac has a trigger finger, even though his blaster doesn't have a trigger. Oh, and my figure also has really tight joints.

@@tompollockjr144 Mega Jay Retro had the one of the company’s lead designers on his channel. I must say, the renders he showed was simply stunning. I mean Super7 didn’t have the license either with the figures they put out. It’s why those figures are called the William Stout collection. Like Super7, Mattel did the same thing the only difference is Super7 did a tremendous job of making He-Man look more like Dolph than Mattels interpretation. Shame on Mattel for such a shoddy depiction.
