I cannot understand why ABC CBS NBC, don't bring these back exactly as they were even with the original ads. I can guarantee they would slaughter the rating if they did a one night a week return to 1970. Well bless KZbin for at least letting us get a few memories
@janetaylorparris11 ай бұрын
I just pray they’re well preserved somewhere and one day somebody will have the brilliance to create a streaming service for them. I’d pay a lot to have quality access to them… esp the early 80s thrillers! I mean, I’d like to have them on DVD, but then I’d need an extra basement. 😂

The first time we saw DUEL starring Dennis Weaver , at the most exciting climax the local station went blank. WREX Rockford got so many irate phone calls that they pre-empted the 10 pm news that night to show the end of it. (It was an ABC Saturday night movie.)

Fun Fact, the TV show The Hulk had an episode called "Never Give a Trucker an Even Break" where they used tons of stock footage from Duel. Literally used movie footage in the TV show to put their story together. look it up, pretty funny.

Back in the Seventies, just those introductory fanfare bits of music, and the way they rose to a crescendo, were enough to garner the attention, because you knew that there was going to be a fun or gripping film experience coming your way. Yeah, the movies were edited for content and for time, and there were a bunch of commercials--- but it was often the best of what was on teevee that evening. Fun to see these promotional reels!

Burt Reynolds' wig! Also, really hits you how here today-gone tomorrow is fame. Stars that we thought were lasting, and movies too (The Deep was supposed to be the next Jaws), and they just fade. Even someone like Paul Newman, who seemed a classic movie star, really has all but faded from today's memory, with the exception of Cool Hand Luke maybe.

VHS tape killed broadcast films. Before you could rent or own old movies, the only way you could see them were on network TV. It was great for the film owners, who could wring a little more money from a title, and the networks who could attract viewers with content that was less costly than new production. ABC was a bit different in that they added to the mix by paying to produce in- house films for its "Movie of the Week" series (many of which were very good despite their limited budgets.) It also didn't hurt that until the late seventies, the three networks had no real competition for viewers.

The movie had to do with all of these people trying to escape further dangers, but everywhere they went, there was something blocking the way out to street level. ddoyle11 There's a video on KZbin of a concert of Bert Kaempfert orchestra in Germany from 1967, the premier of color tv in Europe, where the color is a fresh as it was when video taped.
@Tomovox_PAMS_Radio_JIngles7 жыл бұрын
If I remember what a film collector told me, It's a chemical reaction due to aging. The color stock fades if the film isn't properly stored. I'm not sure how long the color lasts even if it is properly stored, but I'm do believe it's just a breakdown as the film gets older.

Color fades out of film by chemical breakdown, but how does it fade out of video? I've even rented DVDs of 80s movies that have the kind of color loss you see in some of these videos. Today you couldn't pull stuff off like this, because there aren't enough competent young actors to do roles like this on TV. ABC puts more stock in The Bachelor, showing game shows at night, and endless mindless reality shows. Even the late night talk shows are all garbage. Carson and Letterman will never be duplicated in popularity. There's no creativity in tv anymore. These types of entertainment will never come back.
