Movie Reaction: Forrest Gump - This movie was historically amazing!

Yes that was a real assassination attempt on George Wallace. LOVE your reaction to Jenny at the end. I did a college paper in psychology on this film and got an A+. Totally agree on Jenny.

Everyone has their opinion on Jenny, and most of them are not good. But as far as the child being Forrests, there are a few moments in the movie where they give you hints that he is his child. It has been years since I saw the whole film, so I really only remember one or two things. The day he met him and he was sitting on the floor watching tv, and Forrest goes and sits next to him, they both tilt their head at a funny angle at the exact moment. I believe that happens at least in one other spot in the movie, but dont remember where. They way he speaks, his phrasing not his vocals, also is like Forrest. Forrest is a perfectly innocent character, and Jenny is a perfectly flawed character. Like her or not, I think her character (along with the entire film) was written beautifully. And in the end, Jenny gave way more than she ever got. Also, Gary Sinise (Lt Dan) does have both his legs IRL. This film changed his life. He has gone on and become a very prominent advocate for veterans. If you are interested in seeing them on screen again together, try Apollo 13. It is a great movie and is probably the most accurate historical drama you will ever see.

Jenny has been running since we we introduced to her, around 6-ish years old. I feel sad she couldnt accept healthy love until she was dying, plus experiencing healthy love for the seemingly first time when their son was born. It’s not an excuse for her behaviors, but it partially explains why she acted the way she has

​@@alisong826Jenny doesn't need an excuse. She was a victim of severe trauma that lasts lifelong. It affects how you approach everything and everyone. By being Forrest's first friend she opened up possibilities for his life in the first place. Jenny always gave Forrest affectionate friendship. She didn't owe him more if she couldn't give it. Victim shaming doesn't heal. It only revictimizes.

Jenny told him in her apology, that she was "messed up"! She loved him but didn't feel like she deserved him, she was filled with self-hate and loved him too much to expose him to her trauma!!

Tom hanks brother is an avid runner so when it is wide shots of Forrest running it’s Tom’s brother. The girl on the bus in the beginning in the red and white dress is Tom Hank’s daughter.

Forrest was running for over three years and that was during the time period that Jenny was pregnant, had the baby and he was about 3+ years old by the time Forrest meant him. While Forrest was running there was no way Jenny could have contacted him. You recognized that Jenny was abused as a very young child but you do not realize how long that kind of trauma can affect someone's life. It was only because of Forrest's unwavering love for Jenny and visa versa that she had a chance to finally have a little bit of a normal life. If Jenny had always been in Forrest's life he would not have had all of the accomplishments that he did because he would have gone down with Jenny and she knew it which is why she didn't want to take him down that wrong path. It takes several viewings of this movie to get all of the messages embedded in it but you did a great job of noticing many important parts especially in the history category and Forrest's physical and mental challenges. Unlike Forrest I'm an adult who can't walk because of spine problems...considering the time of this story his doctor did him a great service by putting him in those braces. Glad your son has made it through his operations and had a positive outcome and doing well. Thanks for posting this.

EXACTLY...people, probably never having lived ever without modern technology in their lives, fail to realize that the era in which Forrest goes out to Savannah to see Jenny is only in the 80's so there wasn't any of that yet....no cell phones, email, internet, or social media.

Little Forrest was about 3. Remember that Forrest was running for over 3 years and Jenny had no way to contact him. Also, Jenny never took anything from Forrest. She didn't come back for money. She wrote him because she was ready to settle down and wanted little Forrest to have his father.

I love this movie... so much so that I seem to enjoy watching people react to it a lot... I guess I like to cry... the movie makes you laugh... but for me it breaks my heart and makes me cry. Guess that is the "mom" in me... and Jenny I understand her... she was all kinds of messed up... But you said it... we should all get along... it doesn't matter about anything ... we are all human. Anyway... glad you liked it. I love this movie... and "The Green Mile"... both of those I can't seem to stop watching people react to ... I think I just like to have a good cry.

Forrest Gump point is in the Monument Valley in southern Utah. That’s the location where Forrest stops running and goes home. Been a couple times. Fun to see everyone recording themselves running.

My mom looked exactly like Sally Field when we were kids in this and Mrs. Doubtfire. We were convinced she had a secret movie career, I sincerely cried when she died. And that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. When LT. Dan comes with his magic legs made from the same as the space shuttle...the next year they were in Apollo 13th together! One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.

You mentioned the feather in the book. My grandmother and her sister had flowers and leaves that they would place in book pages to press them flat and dry. Some of them have been around at least 50 years of my life. Simpler times in the country and people wanted a memory to last.

I think you missed why Jenny asked Forrest to marry her so soon after meeting up again. She knew she was dying and back then no judge would've ever given custody of Forrest Jr. to just her boyfriend and especially not someone with Forrest's IQ. And since he didn't know about the boy or paid child support it means he wasn't on the birth certificate. By marrying him Jenny gave a precious parting gift to the two people who represented everything good and safe in her life and whom she loved the most in this world: Each other.

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes) 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

I actually agree with you about why Jenny wouldn't necessarily be attracted to Forest as a young woman, but I would say it was more about the fact that her father messed her up for relationships - Forest wasn't the only one in this movie always running😁😁 Just finished the video, and your summation at the end was so on-point I wanted to give you a standing ovation - but I was alone...🙄🙄 - anyway, awesome reaction!!!!

Don't concern yourself about laughing when you were a child. Movies that we saw at inappropriate ages had moments that went right over our heads. Even when we see kid movies as grown adults, the understanding is better with age.

So many reactors don't cut Jenny any slack. They love Forrest so much that they have zero appreciation for what she went through. She was SA'd by father. That would mess any kid, especially a little girl, up. Run Forrest Run wasn't just her trying to help Forrest, it was the only way she knew how to deal with her trauma. Running away from her problems because she never knew how to accept love from anyone. But I guess having a kid changed her so she was finally able to reach out to Forrest. But unfortunately, by that time, she already had AIDS.

I think you missed that it was really hard for Jenny to get hold of Forrest when he was running all those years after they had sex. Me personally, I don't think she kept him not knowing. He got her letter she sent, and we don't know WHEN she sent it. I would give her the benefit of a daught. And also, I think it was Jenny's self worth that kept her running away, not his IQ.
