I work at a VFX studio as a compositing artist, and yes, CGI is difficult and takes a lot of time and resources. It's constant problem solving not just with creative direction to match the clients' requests, but also with the technical aspects. The reason why you have so many departments doing specific things (i.e a department for fur/hair, another for FX like water etc) is because they are all difficult and take a LOT of specific practice and knowledge. Bringing all the different facets of CGI together (modeling, FX, texturing, integrating with the raw footage etc) is no easy feat, and keep in mind you often have multiple studios working together on one film, so communication is super important. Just my random 2 cents :)

to kinda correct Ed on the first dr strange movie with Tilda Swinton's casting, they wanted to casted an Asian in the role of the ancient one, someone Tibetian specifically, but because a lot of viewership comes from china it would stir up some shit (because ya know china hates Tibet) and they didn't want to cast someone Chinese to upset Tibetans, so I can honestly see the casting director"s predicament, and i think Tilda Swinton killed it in the role

I enjoyed it as a cheesy Sam Raimi film because I knew Raimi would make it his style of film. Even if it was to the detriment of the story of the film. But as a MCU and film fan I think it's a bad movie by any story structure standard. Overall I think Phase 4 is all over the map when it comes to tone, style and consistency. Spider-man was the only film so far that had a steady tone/theme from beginning to end for me. I can only hope that everything from phase 4 will be addressed in someway in the future. Because as of right now instead of it being the MCU it's more like the (MCM) Marvel Cinematic Multi-verse where everything every movie act as if independent from each other and none of the films are connecting unless to make a joke. While I'm happy Disney/Marvel is taking chances with different directors with specific stylistic visions, it seem they have way more say on how they want their movie to be rather than trying to make a movie in the MCU.

That's kinda what I love about them tho for someone who has been following the entire franchise is super fun to see things connect and come together. But for those of us that do, it's a fun experience. So its unfair to call them fastfood movies just cuz u didn't like them, I feel like a lot goes into these films, and while they aren't masterpieces most have good writing and character development, a lot goes into these films
@CamberRockerCamber2 жыл бұрын
@@JJ-el6qx right? I didn't understand that complaint about the film. All the films are connected and you should have to watch the previous films and shows to understand what's going on. That was done intentionally by Marvel/Disney.
@HK47_1152 жыл бұрын
@@JJ-el6qx just because they all connect doesn't mean they can't stand on their own two feet still. I've read a few comic issues before without ever reading anything else connected to it and some of those comics stand on their own two feet. sure I will be a little bit confused without the extra context. but I'm not so lost at a point where I can't enjoy that single issue by itself. Now, it's fine that you enjoy it for that. but just because this does happen with comics doesn't mean a single comic issue cannot stand on its own two feet or is that any marvel comic has it stand on its own two feet regardless of what it connects to and regardless if the person has read the other issues. and I'm going to be honest, I don't really read a lot of comics for that reason. but for the few that I did, they stood on their own two feet. I didn't need to catch up on every single little bit of context. I could still understand what was going on for the most part from the context clues from characters. plus, that's just lazy. Disney's trying to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible which is why this film was such a mess. so that's an absolute BS excuse. sure it doesn't matter to you for your personal enjoyment. you didn't buy the ticket for the person next to you. that person bought a ticket for themselves and they have every single right to be disappointed because they have no idea what the fuck is going on. personally I've been keeping up all the way up until this point. I haven't seen every single marvel film, but for the most part I have seen the ones that have build up and ended phase one and two and, I don't even remember what face we ended on we're on phase four right? I don't even give a fuck what phase is what. the film needs to stand on its own two feet first and foremost. obviously if it's a sequel It's supposed to connect to the previous film. and it's supposed to lead up to the next sequel. but that sounds doing is to stand on its own two feet no matter the franchise, no matter its connection. that is an absolute bullshit excuse to say why it's a good film. it's a good film to you my guy, that doesn't make it objectively a good film. And before you say what can be considered an objectively good film when taste is subjective, I'm not talking about taste. I'm talking about storytelling. There is an objective way to do storytelling properly regardless if that person likes it or not. there are multiple ways to tell a story. but you got to do it property in those ways or you just got an absolute mess or something that's confusing or maybe something that's not even really telling the story at all and it's just there to look pretty. that's what some parts, not the movie, but what some parts felt like they were trying to do. just be pretty without actually adding to the story. or to get a fans reaction like the cameos. which I felt like added nothing but making people think Richard reads is officially the dumbest character in the MCU. which is another thing people are tired of. we're tired of them making the genius characters the biggest morons just to move the plot. And with all the professional writers they have, this should be no reason that the genie is is a complete moron. Regardless, you can like it all you want it doesn't make it a good film. and the person next to you had every reason to be disappointed. if this film wasn't trying to Target as broad of an audience as possible it wouldn't have been such a mess that it is and more people would have enjoyed it both fans, fanatics, and people just dropping in. sort of. they could at least enjoy the fun of the story and it's also storytelling for this film without being completely caught up if they added proper context clues. you know, like the comics do?

Didn't watch Wandavision, but I already knew a few main points of it. Still got frustrated because I sat there thinking if I was supposed to watch it to be sympathetic for Wanda. So when she goes "I'M EVIL NOW (thanks to a cop out of a magic book of evil), 20 MIN PASSED AND I'M SITTING HERE THINKING "THERE'S AN HOUR AND 40 MIN LEFT. WHAT ELSE IS THERE." Also the ashy land reveal showing that she's stronger than Dr Strange doesn't work because it was already implied with your knowledge of Wandavision that she's already stronger because she created 2 kids with her mind. I'll admit that I didn't catch the reveal until I read the comments, but I already thought she was stronger. SHE HYPNOTIZED AN ENTIRE TOWN AND MADE UP TWO KIDS. I just looked up that the magic book is a thing in the comics. I still think it would be more compelling if Wanda made her decisions on her own without getting corrupted by a magic book. Or she can get corrupted in the film instead of off-screen??

I think the reason the Illuminati didn't want to kill Wanda straight away is because it's technically their universe's Wanda body. The Scarlett witch (from our main MCU universe) was possessing her body. She also states that having Chavez's power to travel through the multiverse, would allow her the get sources from other universes to help 'take care' of her kids. So possessing/dream walking wouldn't suffice.

However, I should not have like that more than multiverse since Dr. Strange 2 was my most anticipated phase 4 movie and was more of an event. I don't blame the original director for parting ways with Marvel over creative differences after seeing what we got. We are at the point where long time MCU fans can see through typical tropes. Marvel needs to give directors more creative control over these films or else we're just going to see the same things most of the time.

I initially wasn’t that big on the first Doctor Strange movie, but after watching Multiverse of Madness it made the first one look great by comparison. I had no issue with anyone’s acting but unfortunately America Chavez didn’t really develop her character and Wanda upstaged Stephen in his own movie. Sure, I appreciated some of the horror aspects and Raimi’s style, but something tells me he didn’t watch Wandavision to at least make the story somewhat consistent. Could’ve used a couple more universes to explore and the post-credits kinda ruined the ending. Though Thor: Love and Thunder wasn’t the better than Ragnarok, it ended up washing the bad taste Doctor Strange left in my mouth. Can’t wait for that review. P.S. The original director for Doctor Strange, Scott Derrickson, left the sequel due to creative differences and instead directed The Black Phone. It’s a much better film in my opinion. Hope you get a chance to watch it.

It really did feel like Thor’s overall character had regressed or just conveniently had new powers that he had never used before and will probably never use again lol. To be fair, Taika Watiti made a Taika Watiti movie and it was fun and I enjoyed the Easter eggs and action. Sam Raimi made a Sam Raimi movie and it was camp when it needed to be camp. It was what I hoped for as a Marvel movie about a sorcerer and a witch but with creepier campy aesthetic. These 2 movies are not top tier Marvel movies for damn sure but they both are a fun watch for fans of both directors differing styles and source material.

This movie comitted a few movie sins here. In some ways it's nice for mega fans who read the comics, books, lore books, and marvel extra's like myself and at least know references to what they're showing us so it was a good watch to see these things on screen. However even then they jumbled it together in a very strange way that did not work well. The biggest movie sin they comitted was not knowing their fanbase, MOST people love the MCU but most of the movie goers barely step outside of that. So the fact that they did this was just not good story telling for the average viewer. It was definitely fun, but when you objectively look at the story presented, it's really bad. Love and thunder was annoying, the memey shit is just soooooo redundant and tiring, natalie portman's character thor is a lot more bad ass but she was just made to act awkward. So if you're a comic fan you will like seeing them in live action but be kind of put off by the meme nature after the 10th time, it's a fun movie like all MCU films are that's for sure but objectively redundant

It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn't drag and the comedy just hit right. Christian Bale was amazing to the point even I felt he could possibly take the task of being Joker one day, but we'll keep him as Batman forever. Lol. Definitely one of my top favorite Marvel films. Multiverse of Madness was better than I expected but it wasn't my favorite either. I feel like the storytelling for this was flat in a lot of scenes. The actors were great, but the plot and storytelling wasn't the best. I also agree that showing other well-known superheroes to just hype it up and kill them off in the next 10 minutes, it was like, ???. There was some things that were weird and yes, because of Sam Raimi, I thought I WAS watching a horror film. Lol. I think the main thing I was happy about the film is that the multiverse is now known so us possibly seeing other fan faved superheroes is wide open. Anyways, always love hearing your guys' reviews and perspective, especially from a film side. It's great.

bottom line is this, they chose the wrong movie to attempt the first "horror" film for Marvel. If you REALLY wanted a Raimi film, you should've assigned him to Morbius. You in essence could've gone full circle with him sending him back to the spiderverse with another spiderman anti hero character. What I wanted was a TRUE multiverse film much in the vein of Everything, Everwhere, All at once. When you have a director SO stylized as Raimi, you're subject to getting ALL of his film habits and editing. All the outdated things he included was absolutely intentional and that was classic Raimi. So if you're a big fan of his, then you're in hog heaven. If you're not, then it's outdated and very typical. This is like getting JJ Abrams to do a film. You know that you're gonna get lens flare, and that's that. What fans wanted was payoff, which we never really got. When you hear "Multiverse" and "616" "838", etc. you're gonna want to see some WILD SHIT. At this point you get the free license to do some indulgent fan service. With a movie like this, why the hell not? What's stopping you? Empty the clip, give me Tom Cruise Supreme Ironman, give me Chris Evans Johnny Storm, show me things that'll make me drop my damn jaw. this movie was fun, but it could've been so much more, and it just fell short of the finish line.

So, Raimi did go full Raimi in this film. now I'm just even more disappointed and less likely to watch any of his future films. I heard originally that they wouldn't let him make the film he wants it. I'm in technically to a certain degree that was correct at first. but now knowing this is the film he wanted to create, I don't ever want to see him make another marvel film ever again. there are so many good things he could have done with this film, and this is what he created. there were definitely a lot of good moments and good elements. don't get me wrong. but like David said, he should have went all the way with a marvel horror film. now I know next time that if his name is on it, I'm not touching it. I'm not watching the film. I will watch his past films. but that's it. I am just beyond disappointed now knowing this. I could suspend my disbelief that Strange would be having a difficult time dealing with the monster because 1. He no longer has the time stone since Thanos destroyed it in their timeline so he's probably more cautious when it comes to how he fights 2. There are civilians around him so he probably can't go ham like when he did fight Thanos 3. He was only whooping Thanos because he had Tony, Spiderman, and three Guardians backing him up. Other than that I didn't really have too much to nitpick about their thoughts.

I don't look at MCU movies the same as other movies. Each MCU movie is a small chapter in a bigger picture. Chavez could be a foundation for something crucial later on. Remember, they still haven't physically shown who the "big bad". Also, these MCU films are definitely catered more for the super fans (which I am not). I have to watch at least 3 breakdown videos to fully get it. But that's what puts MCU movies in a different category for me when it comes to expectations. Enjoyed your breakdown nonetheless.

Just because They're made for the super fans doesn't mean you can't still keep up. I am nowhere near a super fan. But I'm able to keep up just fine. this movie was just an absolute mess. too much all at once and it can't stand on its own two feet. whereas many of the MCU films can. I don't need to see guardians of the galaxies want to enjoy two. I didn't need to see Thor want to enjoy Thor two and Thor Ragnarok. many of the marvel films were still able to hold themselves up on their own two feet even though they were still connecting to an overarching plot. sure, these were definitely made with the super fans in mind. but no, not only a super Fan can fallow through. I'm just a minor fan who needs to be watches a film, or a TV show from marvel, then literally forgets about their existence until the next film comes out. I'm still able to keep up with many of these films just fine. cuz many of them were still able to stand on their own two feet. I didn't need to know research on every single comic book to be able to follow them. matter of fact you don't even need to check out the comic books at all. Nor the previous films. in my opinion, multiverse of madness is the only one where you can't watch without watching One division first or you're just not going to understand what's going on. even no way from home would be easy to follow without watching the other previous Tom Holland Spider-Man films. I mean you would be missing some context, but you can still enjoy the film as is. you can't do that with this film. and all these people making this excuse that you need to see the other stuff, that's bullshit. that is bullshit. I was able to keep up just fine and I haven't seen every single marvel film or TV show. and as somebody who actually liked Wandavision, this was a disappointing conclusion to it. edit: ignore any typos you see. None of the films we watched were unwatchable because I hadn't seen the other ones, there were just nuanced things I missed but didn't impact the actual story. I don't know why they go so hard with the Doctor Strange films into storylines that are so hard to follow for casual watchers.

probably because they're not catering to casual watchers.

Maria as Captain Marvel not being strong enough against Wanda made sense to me because Wanda was implied to be stronger than Thanos in Endgame and now that she’s powered up from Wandavision, she’s gonna be even stronger than she was in Endgame

Wow. You thought Love and Thunder had tighter jokes? I completely disagree I thought it was much worse. It felt like a parody of Ragnarok.

i watched this when it dropped on disney+ and i was glad i didn’t drop any extra bucks. at this point, i get better mileage complaining about marvel films from the comfort of my home instead of going out hahaha. maybe the new thor movie will change my mind but i doubt it!!

I agree it was very bad compared to the rest of mcu honestly. I hate saying it cause I love the universe and the movies. But marvel is either getting cheap or is just struggling to get this phase going. Too much going on Feels rushed. I hope they catch their stride soon. I’ll support marvel until the bitter end but they need to pick it up again

The Dr. Strange third eye scene at the end means it wasn't OUR Dr. Strange, it was another Dr. Strange. Charlize's character was recruiting OUR Dr. Strange to fix his counterparts fuck ups.

Paused at 2 minutes and just watched Everything Everywhere All At Once before I continued lol. Then I paused again to watch Dr. Strange. I enjoyed both because almost anything related multiverses or time travel are my weaknesses, but I liked EEAAO more.

I don't watch Marvel films but this was an interesting take! I did hear people saying here and there that the movie was bad. Really liked your take on it! The comparison to Raya made me think "ooh this ain't it" And speaking of movies, since you're with Ed, please... please... review Nacho Libre. Yall have so much fun talking about Nacho Libre that it makes me laugh too 🤣🤣🤣. - A Patiently waiting fan- 😀

Personally I thought this was a really great comic book movie, aside from all the sam reimi and characters nerfng stuff. Also, with marvel rushing to push out 100 movies and shows in a span of a year, the cgi and quality is gonna suffer.

Scarlett Witch was absorbing/stealing Captain Marvel's power during their fight. Thanos never had that type of power and fought Wanda, not the Scarlet Witch. Wanda became the Scarlet Witch after using the Darkhold. Scarlet Witch is stronger than Wanda from previous movies. She arguably the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe.

The zombie part is a reference to the “what if” series. Like you said if people didn’t want the marvel series on Disney plus the movie made no sense

i wished they would've addressed the giant fucking celestial birthing out of Earth from the Eternals movie. You'd think somewhere in the Dr. Strange or Thor movie they would at least acknowledge the giant petrified statue poking out of Earth or even the giant one that appeared outside of the planet but not a single mention of it. Both events were potential Earth-ending catastrophes that no avenger would've been able to confront. If there is anyone in the Marvel universe who's qualified to talk about this, it would be Dr. Strange or Thor, the two who specialize in mystic threats or gods.

100% agree with you David. This movie was NOT GOOD. Like, bro? They really made Dr. Stephen Strange say "the illumi-whati?" So, so bad. Marvel completely missed with this one. What was the point of the illuminati to begin with????

i have to rant about thor love and thunder because david brought it up im so so sorry yall i actually preferred ragnorak to love and thunder. the jokes in love and thunder were so incessant at a pace that was so consistent it became predictable and the few points where the characters were serious it didnt feel earned because they were quipping 98% of the time, the rambling in the last one added to the unpredictability of the movie and i may have just liked the story more. personally ever since they started trying to dive into thor's trauma they made his storylines sillier and more slapstick which couldve worked if they allowed him to actually have moments of sobriety but in thor love and thunder they narrate and glaze over it, they didnt show us where thor was they told us and it made the emotional aspects felt cheated. its especially jarring how they changed thors character because iron man and captain america never ever got that treatment and those are the heroes thor came up with., which makes it jarring too. i wouldve left this style to guardians of the galaxy, it just worked better with a bigger cast, more characters to riff off of and thor's squad doesnt have the range. thor is starlord, valkyrie is gamorrah rock man is drax? jane was there? then died? eh. I did enjoy the campiness aspect of the film i wish it wasnt *all* of the film, just the action parts.

I just went in thinking it’s a comedy film. Had a great villain Christian bail, gave me a reason to care about his growth with his love interest, and the ending made sense. Was it a great marvel film? Dunno bout that But it was a good marvel comedy to me.

Everyone has their own opinions so if this is how you feel then power to you, I disagree but you do you. *BUT* the only problem I have is that you guys are calling certain things "bad" and "lazy" because you don't understand it..like for example, you guys saying that you don't know what the point of Wanda changing the reality or now she turned evil. They explained why she is turning more corrupt, it's cause her constant use of the Dark Hold..They have said it multiple times and even showed it with the other universes Dr. Strange. And the reason why she turned the scenery to all dead and destroyed was because she was trying to trick Strange into thinking she isn't planning anything and to fool him, since she didn't have to keep the act up she decided to drop the scenery, also Dr Strange I'm sure knew it wasn't real because his first line to her was "Those almost look real"
