@@qwerpster I also watched various parts on repeat, when I was young. That's how I know that when Nicole Kidman is flopping about like an idiot, after she first meets Ewan's character, but before Ewan sings 'Your Song' to her, her thrashings about cause her nipple to peek out of her nightgown. When you're a teenager, there's nothing more magical than seeing a nipple that you're not supposed to be able to see...

Beyond the music and emotion and the beauty of the moment, I love that Satine’s makeup wasn’t 100% perfect from beginning to end. She’s been on stage, her lipstick is bleeding, her eyeshadow has been creasing and smearing from sweat because of the lights, she’s literally dying and she is making her stand. Nicole Kidman is a beautiful woman. Her character is fading fast from a chronic illness and she is standing up and going so strong she broke the throttle.

This PARTICULAR upload gives me fond memories, so I have to say I'm delighted it's here and edited as it is. The story behind it is, we were talking about TB in Biology. I raised my hand to ask if TB was the same thing as "consumption." My teacher said yes, and where had I heard it being referred to as such? Honestly, I read a lot of historical fiction and play a lot of video games and the like, but I was too embarrassed to say that, so I mumbled something about Moulin Rouge, hoping the attention would move off of me. No such luck; at the mention of Moulin Rouge, he lit up. He spent the entire period mentioning the movie and musicals in general. (This was a few weeks before he was due to leave and we were close to graduating ourselves, so in retrospect, it's not that surprising.) Eventually, he showed this clip. Everyone was really invested by now, and when the clip ended, everyone was up in arms, demanding to know if Christian lived. He point-blank refused to tell them. Of course, they all rounded on me. I was being barraged with questions; "Does the man get shot?" "Does she take the bullet for him?" "THEY BOTH SURVIVE, DON'T THEY?" "I bet one of them dies, right?" Faced with these seemingly related, but ultimately contradictory questions, from people in a parallel situation to Christian, (i.e. completely unaware of Satine's illness), I had *no* idea how to answer whatsoever. I said something along the lines of "guess you'll have to watch it?" and "um, it's complicated?" They were all *so* on the heroes' side even after just this, I didn't have the heart to explain it. I wonder if any of them ever watched it and their hearts did get broken, despite my efforts...
