You’re right but this reputation is just a myth. Henri III wasn’t at all like that in reality. He was, on the opposite, a very pious and clever man and became a very good king. His mother tried to arrange a marriage between him and Elizabeth but he refused to marry the one he called “méchante femme” (“evil woman” in French) and he let her to his brother. It seems Elizabeth was very upset to be rejected: years later, after Henri's marriage, she wanted to know if his wife was prettier than her.

Your talking about Francis of Anjou whom actually met Elizabeth and courted her and then died of malaria years latter. His older brother Henri Duke de Anjou (Henri III of France) also was proposed to marry her (the one who had the reputation as a cross dressing freak, etc.), but only by correspondence via letters.

This movie is full of historic inaccuracies. Actually, Duc d'Anjou and her were in love and he was not a cross dressing fool. They had a long correspondence and she even nicknamed him her "Little frog".
@graphiquejack6 жыл бұрын
Gabi R that was his younger brother... this is the middle brother, and the eldest is the current king. However, it’s easy to get them mixed up because when the middle brother died, the younger brother took the same title, so they were both, at different times, the duc d’Anjou. And this movie gets it wrong as well... they had the middle brother, who was believed to be a cross dresser and at least bisexual, visit her, but it, was, as you say, the younger brother, the ‘Little Frog’ who was a serious suitor to Elizabeth
