Oh, my God, Amanda was pregnant with Newlon's child. That completely caught me off guard. Although, losing Amanda doesn't justify killing Jessica and her friends, who didn't even know that she was pregnant. Plus, as an officer of the law, Newlon could've just arrested the people who WERE responsible; he didn't have to go on a killing spree and kill innocent people.

I first started to suspect him in the end if the parade scene, when the killer uses a flashbang grenade to stun the family. There are only two groups of people that can easily acquire something like that: Active military personnel (Whom there were none of among the characters in the movie), and active police officers.

So it's like Ghostface. The motivation scene and it was like Scream. So Newlon's wife left him and Amanda helped him heal and piece himself back together. While Newlon was convinced that she was having an affair, it's all told from his perspective and Amanda could have just seen it as her being a good friend. After all, she cared enough about Mitch to bring him dinner when he had to work Thanksgiving and showed concern about him during the riot and not Newlon. That child could have even been Mitch's too. Ultimately, Newlon was not all there because he did the whole murder spree as revenge in Amanda's name. It's like how Maureen's perspective will never be known as she was killed by Billy and Stu and kept Hollywood a secret. Even if most of John Carver's victims were bad or obnoxious in some form having to do with the riot, they never meant for the riot to start while he was deciding to kill them in revenge and chose with every life he claimed. Jessica was smart enough to try and stay quiet when she realized Newlon was John Carver since she was alone with him and had no hard evidence but he looked down at his ankles and knew she realized it dropping the act. He even intended to frame Bobby as John Carver like the Ghostfaces do yet Jessica did an Instagram live getting his confession on camera which meant he was not escaping no matter what at that point. As further proof of being an average teenager, Jessica took a while to notice the mullet lying next to her and to consider using it to fight back. So many are certain that Newlon survived but if this is like Scream, he didn't. He was caught in an explosion with fires burning hotter and longer than what he cooked Kathleen with. If long enough, it'd have incinerated his body. Jessica looking at the firefighter and her nightmare makes sense as she lived through a murder spree and won't be the same in the head ever again. In the end, it followed the rules Scream 4 and VI set up and if this franchise is to do well, it'd best not be a villain-based franchise.

When I first watched the movie, someone who I initially thought could be the killer (Or an accomplice to him) was Jessica's history teacher. Think about it: A) She seemed from the class scene to have a rather unfavorable view of Thanksgiving as a holiday. Perhaps because she lost someone in the riot, too? B) Being a fan of the short- lived but fun 90's reboot of 'Burke's Law' taught me that the killer can often turn out to be a seemingly inconsequential peripheral character whom no real suspicion is ever thrown on (A key example of this principle in a horror film context is "Debbie Salt" from 'Scream 2'), and the history teacher fits perfectly with that kind of character. C) Throughout the movie, a lot of attention is placed on the security guard who died in the riot, but we never learn anything about his personal life, like if he had a family or anything. I was thinking the history teacher could turn out to have been his wife or sister or something. This would also explain why the second security guard was killed so quickly, as his cowardice and disloyalty could be seen as causing or at least contributing to the first guard's death. So, maybe in a sequel, we learn that she was his accomplice and is now about to start a new killing spree.

I'll tell why he murdered those innocent people. The sheriff confessed that was John Carver as a disguise. He tried to get his wife back together, but it was too late for a reason. His wife died during the Black Friday before Thanksgiving. The sheriff was heartbroken as he saw what happened from a beginning. For his lost, he went off to seek revenge on Jessica and her friends, who were responsible from causing chaos.

It's a really solid motive, and it also explains why the first victim he killed was Lizzie the waitress: She was the one who actually killed Amanda with the cart, so his first priority was ensuring she'd pay for that, before then moving on to the people who more indirectly caused the riot (i.e. Thomas, the kids, etc.).

Gotta say, though this movie rocks because they actually managed to create a diverse and creative and surprising story plot. Not to mention the plot twist at the end was awesome . They decided to go for the class that no one ever bother to use anymore diverse all the attention to what people think is the most obvious suspect but in reality, they don’t see the truth because they’re blinded by their own thoughts.

Nahhh there are plot holes with how the sheriff and killer are in the same place. I guess there are two killers, the other one is ryan. Like his character was really suspicious and when they were all kidnapped, he was nowhere to be seen until the end (like isn't he one of the major characters?) like huh? His character became underwhelming at the end like it's almost impossible. If there will be a thanksgiving 2, I bet my money ryan is connected to the sheriff. Maybe he even help the sheriff at the end (when the balloon exploded because no body was seen) hmmm
