Yeah, I was back at that scene in a rereading. I'm not sure if they kept the dementors after the 2nd war, but if they did, then Azkaban is arguably too good for Dolores. Dementors can't exactly torture soulless beings. I think for a small sentence, she should be George's Guinea pig for new joke sweets, plus lifetime in Azkaban, constantly visited by those she hates (half breeds) and written essays with her own blood on a weekly basis, for each student at hogwarts she tortured. She doesn't even deserve an afterlife, now that I think about it, cause Satan would probably ask for her autograph.

I'd like to point out the fact that it was clearly stated in the book that Umbridge sent the Dementors to *silence* Harry. She never thought an unqualified wizard could conjure a Patronus Charm. Her plan would have succeeded hadn't if Lupin decided to give Harry anti-Dementor lessons. She was disappointed that he did not get Kissed, but she overall did the job : he "illegally" performed magic outside of school in the presence of a muggle.

I think the reason why most hate umbridge more the Voldemort is that we've all had that one teacher or boss. The one who gives extra detention, harshly grades your work. I think the main reason Umbridge is the most hated character is that because she's a realistic character. You can't find people like Voldemort or Bellatrix anywhere, but you can find Umbridge everywhere, in school, at work, in a grocery store. Studying to be a director and a writer, I learned about creating and analyzing villains, the most hated ones are the ones most realistic. Umbridge doesn't need magic to be a pain in the neck, unlike Voldemort who is basically dependent on magic to maintain his power, even his life. Umbridge is your everyday annoying neighbor, a teacher you never liked, that lady at the grocery store who feels entitled to do whatever she wants. Personally, I don't think of her being worse than Voldemort, Umbridge would never kill a baby, despite her actions, but still, she is the most feared, disliked and most realistic villain in the franchise and without her, I don't think the fans would realize her quite realistic power in their every day world.

I think Umbridge and Bellatrix are the most evil characters in HP, besides Voldemort. Umbridge's father, who's a pure blood, raised her from a young age with the same pro pure blood beliefs that she has as an adult. So really, her father planted her way of thinking into her mind, and she embraced those beliefs/values fully even from a young age when her and her father disowned Umbride's mother who's a muggle and her squib brother. Bellatrix was raised by her parents with pro pure bloods values just like Umbridge's father raised her with, except the black family's pro pure blood beliefs were more extreme and Umbridge embraced those values she was taught by her father on a more extreme level, like Bellatrix did. Both Umbridge and Bellatrix has/had the same values/beliefs and really, are quite similar to each other because of that. Also, they're both very similar because they're both murderers and like to cause suffering/pain onto others. Many of the innocent muggleborns Umbridge sent to Azkaban did not survive their time there and although we know Bellatrix killed Sirius and Tonks, i'm sure Bellatrix has killed plenty of others along with her usual torturing which she loved to do, with the Cruciatus curse which was her favorite spell.

@@lgt_jne You mean Harry's aunt petunia? I would agree she's a very terrible person, very ignorant and nasty because of her jealously towards her sister lily ever since they were kids, and because of that made petunia be emotionally and mentally abusive towards harry, along with vernon and dudley. However, I don't think she's as evil as umbridge and Bellatrix though. Petunia despises magic and loves being "normal". Plus, I don't think Petunia would be the type of person to physically torture or kill anyone. She's just mentally and emotionally abusive towards her nephew. But, if Petunia had to be similar to either Umbridge or Bellatrix, it would be umbridge because Umbridge hates Harry and kids in general and Umbridge hates kids as well. Also, they are both just nasty rude women as well.

In the Order of the Phoenix game during the section where you play as Fred and George where they pulled the pranks you get to see a couple more pranks pulled including sneaking 2 Howlers onto the school grounds 1 into Umbridge's office and another one into the meeting office of her Inquisitorial Squad/asshole bullies with badges, screwing with the clocks to make Draco and the rest of the Inquisitorial Squad miss their OWLS, turning the entrances of Umbridge's office, Filch's office and the entryway to the Slytherin Common Room into swamps, and sneaking Screaming Mandrakes into Umbridge's Office, the Inquisitorial Squad's meeting office, and Filch's Office.

@@derrickhaggard They actually did turn some of the hallway into a swamp in the books. Flitwick also kept a bit of it by a window, as it was a damn good piece of magic.
