Joanna Mason's strategy is actually smart. Pretend to be weak so tributes won't see you as a threat. She waited for everyone to kill each other off while she conserves energy and kills the remaining survivors 🪓

Fun Fact, Cashmere, Victor of the 64th Hunger Games was from District 1 but was a troublesome victor for President Snow and was exploited for her body similarly like Finnick Odair, yet is so overly overlooked by many fans due to her being a Career
@Elizabeth-hc3mi
@Elizabeth-hc3mi Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't get why the careers, ecspealliy 1 and 4 get some much hate. Sending a prepared and trained 18 year old tribute seems a lot less barbaric then sending in a a frail half starved 12 year old. Besides, it is way to feed your district. Besides getting food if the tribute wins, everyone can sign up for the taesere without worrying about being reaped.
@patrickdematosribeiro1845
@patrickdematosribeiro1845 Жыл бұрын
@@Elizabeth-hc3mi One reason is that the academies are officially illegal, the Capitol merely looks the other way in the districts they dislike the least. This gives the other districts who can't have academies of their own a huge disadvantage and this is why they hate the careers. Since the fans get mainly the perspective from district twelve many share that view.

@@bessieburnet9816 the careers maybe victims to but they didn’t see it that way that’s why it was so hard for the rebels to get district 2 on their side it was also stated that the career tributes were better fed overly vicious and eager to volunteer for the games
@Elizabeth-hc3mi
@Elizabeth-hc3mi Жыл бұрын
It's possible that the whole "overly vicious and eager to volunteer." Thing is an act. Remember, tributes aren't allowed to officially train for the games. I don't think saying on an interview with Caeser, "Oh yeah, they've been training us for years then tell us to volunteer that way we don't watch our kids get completely murdered ever year " would go over well with the capitol, or get sponsors. Being vicious and ready to kill is a much better angle both for favor with Snow and for sponsors. 1&4 both rebel against the capitol, so they probably didn't like the Hunger Games either, they just adapted to survive.

@@Hungergames_14528They're Latin names. Suzanne Collins uses elements of ancient Rome a lot within the series, especially with character names, to reflect the similarities between the government of Panem and the Roman Empire. Characters with connections to the Capitol such as citizens from the Capitol and District 2 tend to have Roman names, which connects them together while also reflecting the connection between Panem and Rome. Even the name of the country, Panem, is a Latin word which means bread. It's also a reference to the phrase "bread and circuses" (or in Latin, panem et circenses), which was used by the Roman poet Juneval around 100 AD to describe how the Roman public generally did not care about how effective the Roman government was policy making, or the fact that they no longer had the power to vote and participate in the government as they (sort of) had under the Roman Republic, as long as they had access to food and entertainment, which includes gladiatorial combat like we see in the Hunger Games. This is called symbolism. It's a way for an author to make a point or establish a connection to something else without actually saying so directly. Stuff like this is there, if you can find it.

The entire series shows how different people ( all the surviving tributes) react to trauma and different ways, several different charectoristics of ptsd. Nighterros that peta and katniss have, addiction like the morphling and Hamich, anger and outbursts like joanna, involuntary lose of speech like magda, zombie mode like katniss and prims mom, etc I would like a little love story and bonding with finnick and annie to see how she raises her and finback’s son to be. the fact that we know about 22/75 winners just goes to show how much thought suzanne collins put into the whole world and not just the main characters. @HouseOfTheHybrid

I wouldn't really use that as one of the reasons the series holds up so well today. Majority of the past victors are really vague. And even in the prequel she skipped over a lot of stuff.

@@HouseOfTheHybrid yes and that’s why I think it holds up well because it keeps you interested in wanting to know more about those other victors and what happened. it’s also incredibly unrealistic to think that she could go into depth on all of them. a story doesn’t have to give you every single detail to “hold up well”

@@statesofgracie So you're saying its the lack of info instead? Okay. At first I assumed you meant she gave us so much about previous winners. If it was the latter I'd have to say that was not a reason I kept reading or loved the story several years ago. In fact, it was one of the things I wished was more fleshed out. Its also why myself and a lot of other people were initially annoyed when we found out the prequel was going to be on Snow rather than Haymitch or some other group of victors games.

@@statesofgracie also keep in mind it was originally only to be a trilogy. If I recall correctly. So what we're getting post-Mockingjay is basically stuff thought of "after the fact" like JK Rowling with Cursed Child. It wasn't meant to be an expansive universe type thing. Just a focused story.

@@HouseOfTheHybrid I think you’re misinterpreting what I’m saying. I don’t think she had everything planned out when writing the original trilogy (and she doesn’t have to that’s the beauty of writing). All I mean is she gave enough info about previous winners to make the world feel expansive and real and has now set herself up to be able to tell more stories about the world which keeps you interested in it. It is a huge factor to help her win, but I think that she needed to have the looks and the skill to carry the popularity. If she wasn't as pretty and good as even Katniss admitted at manipulating the audience from the camera, then she would likely not have won. Let's compare her to Glimmer from the previous game for comparison. -In the books Glimmer looked rather attractive and used that in her television appearances including wearing revealing clothing to get sponsors. Cashmere probably did the exact same thing and mentored Glimmer to do so. What Glimmer didn't have was the following: 1. The attractive brother with the previous win. People would want to have a double win and for Cashmere to come home so they would sponsor her with the hopes she could go home and reunite with her brother. 2. The actual skill needed. Glimmer could not handle her weapon of choice with the needed ability to make her succeed in the arena. 3. Agility and quick thinking. Glimmer didn't move away quickly and effectively from the track jackers like the other careers, so she died. You need quick thinking and quick decision making to win the games.

@@charisseadaraThis is kinda off topic but I thought her weapon choice was super interesting. As far as I know, she didn't have a real skill or training in one specific weapon, unlike Katniss or Finnick. But the bow&arrows make so much sense. First of all I think it's to be better than Katniss, who kinda stole her spotlight with the star crossed lovers and hight rating. Glimmer was attractive but Katniss was *interesting*. Secondly it's such a "pretty" weapon. Similar to Cashmere who was throwing knives. It both has something precise and almost elegant, and it doesn't get you bloody or actually fighting. It keeps their attractive image intact. She had the right idea, the bow and arrow would've been perfect for her (&, Cashmere's) type of tribute , but yeah she lacked any actual skill with it. And I think it's super likely Cashmere was her Idol, maybe even her mentor.

Also, the victors pull actually wasn't the original plan for 75, Plutarch destroyed the original envelope and subbed in the game they ran to facilitate the plan to kickstart the second rebellion, arguably the cruelty was actually intended to be even worse than even a quarter quell would be expected to be to provoke outrage and eventually an uprising.

Now that I think about it, Snow was always more “father like” (in the most fked up way possible) to Katniss. That’s probably because, just like Lucy Gray, was a district 12 female. Lucy and Katniss also looked alike in the books. Snow (in my opinion from the movies) had a liking to Katniss and let her get away with a lot more. He could have killed her and Peeta a lot sooner but waited till the last minute when the rebellion was wayyyyy started. Even in his last moments, he shared a lot with Katniss and showed a lot more ‘kindness’ to her. I think, in some part of Snows fked up head, he had fondness of District 12 Seam females, just because of Lucy Gray.

Not trying to be a theorist or anything but I truly think Lucia Gray ran away to district 13 and left snow behind because she knew he would have been a possible threat to the community knowing he had direct ties to higher-ups in the capital plus if he would have went missing the capital would have harmed his family, Lucia was the one that snitched on his friend and hid the weapons in the cabin they hiked to just to keep Snow alive

Another head cannon theory: The first 12 hunger games were orchestrated by Snow so each district would win 1 of the first 12. This would give the illusion of anyone from any district could survive. In the 11th game, Mags skill of finishing, traps and nets would overcome this plan. Snow wanting to still display his control of the situation starts the victory tours as his way to torture her.

@@TwelveTablesThis theory doesn't make sense. Snow had no association with the first 9 games. And it's mentioned that children from District 1 and 2 are generally tend to win the games. (Because of their loyalty to Capitol they are well fed) Implying that they already won more than one time. District 4 and 11 are also mentioned as good competitors in these years so they each probably won at least 1 games. And there's Lucy Gray for the 10th. So after the first 10 games there was only 5 districts that have victors. 1,2,4,11 and 12. (That's just my theory too lol)

The concept of career tributes is really interesting and I’d love for it to be elaborated on in future books. Were Finnick and Annie career tributes? I believe district 4 is mentioned as a career district in the OG triology but they seem to be different from 1 & 2. Perhaps Collins said they were a career district in the first book and changed her mind later on? It seems unlikely that even in a career district that a 14 year old like Finnick would volunteer. And how does Mags feel about her district being a career district, since she was alive during the first rebellion and won her games before career tributes were a thing? I have so many questions.

It makes sense to me BECAUSE they hid and didn't kill anyone. They were clearly terrified and didn't believe they could win through combat so they hid in the hopes they could wait it out and won purely through luck. The experience of waiting quietly by yourself in various hiding places for either everyone around you to die or for someone to discover and kill you would've been horrible since there would've been nothing such as killing tributes or running from Careers to distract them from the reality of their situation. It tracks that as soon as they got out their main focus was forgetting and numbing their trauma.

Maybe by not participating in the games correctly- correct being that the tributes’ violent and brutal bloodshed is supposed to be the terror factor that keeps the districts in line- and they didn’t partake in any killing or fighting they essentially went directly against what the Capitol was forcing them to do. Perhaps the capitol punished them for their unintentional insubordination through torture or loss of loved ones and that’s what led them to their substance abuse. Even more sinister of a theory, maybe the capitol forced them into addiction. Drugs can make people feel lonely, anxious, paranoid, and physically uncomfortable; if they won their games by hiding in reclusive fear until it was over, their lifetime punishment is feeling that isolation and emotional wrought forever.

So what if one of the two lasted longer than the others and was technically crowned Victor but died before it could happen. And what if it happened before the the second quarter quell. Yes, old enough to be your BOOMER mom/grandma'am, I understood it. I do game shows and I assure you, micing up Caesar Flickerman, checking the last minute things, and our comes Your Host is absolutely true, I have seen it for 25 years. I'm probably one of the Games Controllers, as I handle the game material, edit copy and judge correct and incorrect answers. Crane and Heavensby would be my bosses. And I have never read or seen anything that looked so much like a day on the set. We haven't pitched "The Show Where Everyone Dies" (okay, Survivor comes close.) But someday we probably will. Bread grows stale, the Circus Games get weary. Spice it up with the Quarter Quell and bring back your favorites, your parents, favorites ... the whole family's gonna watch. The ultimate treat for fans would be a book or at least a couple of chapters for every hunger game ever. Just having the games as books would be absolutely amazing.

It’s crazy to think about Finnick as a teen…winning because of all those sponsors….and then being forced by the capital to escort those *adults* I feel like that’s a really fucked up part of his story no one really talks about …. And for any of the “beautiful” winners who were likely forced into the same situation 😞

i'm assuming the range of when they won is based on their ages in the quarter quell and working out when they would have been 11-18. of course removing the years we already know the victors of. a way to narrow it down further is by knowing that finnick was the youngest winner at 14 so all other other non-career tributes would have won between the ages of 15 to 18. I say non-career cause it is very likely that none of them volunteered till the age of 18. although clove was 15 and marvel and glimmer 17, so i dont know plot hole? no one volunteered that year? who knows, speculate as you will
@macca3803
@macca3803 11 ай бұрын
I always wondered this, if the careers train their whole lives it would only make sense the best of the year volunteer when they’re 18. There is a huge difference in physical strength comparing a 15 year old to an 18 year old and 3 years is a lot of time to perfect your skill

I would really love to see a series or movies or tv series of how each victor won their hunger games. It would be so eye opening to see the strategies and survival tactics on screen. I think these's so much potential to be explored for each person's story.

I would love to see a series or any kind of explanation really of what led up to the Capitol’s (and also the Game’s) formation. I’ve seen theories about it coming from a dystopian USA but I don’t know much aside from that.

The winner supposedly of the first hunger games was a 16 year old girl named Esme Yule. She was from district 7 which is the lumber district and won with an axe. There is some speculation that her name is Fir though not Esme so perhaps itll be figure out in the next movie coming out considering the games happen yearly and its only 10 years form the first one. Main thing that doesnt change in all that ive found is for sure it was a female, from district 7 and wielded an axe.

Finnick said “welcome to the 76th annual hunger games” after they first saw the pods in the capital through the holo map. This implies that Snow turned the entire Capital into an arena where the remaining Victors/rebels would be slaughtered and televised “for all posterity”. It’s arguably a “Hunger Games” just b/c of the arena and players, though.

I’m interested in seeing the first hunger games and the first quarter quell. I wonder how people would react to the hunger games when it first started. I’m curious if the capital accepted it in the first place and maybe we’ll get to know about the tributes lives since they would have been 12 - 18 years and have been alive in the dark days and have understood what was going on. Now that I think about it, it would be interesting to know about the children in the districts lives during the dark days since we only really got an idea of how the capital citizens were affected (unless I’m missing something). And about the first quarter quell, it’s hardly touched on. We get a lot of the second and third quarter quells because the second one was haymitchs games and the third one had katniss and peeta. Also they had to vote on who were the tributes. As tragic as it sounds, it would have been so interesting so see how the districts reacted to the news, and after the tributes were picked, how they felt about being picked.

When I first read the series and the mention was made in book one of district 12, only having two previous victors, it always left me wondering who number two was. Obviously, we knew about one of them. So glad to have that mystery solved.

Dr.Gaul said she erased the 10th game (So no one remember Lucy Gray) and we know that the other district 12 winner was actually the mentor of Haymitch. He (Or she i can't remember) died few week after Haymitch win.
