i dont agree. when reading the book I imagined him much more cunning, someone students would resepct and would even be afraid of. this actor does not make this impresion, yet he was a decent choice after all, considering that dumbledore actor sucks completely and vodlemort is making me laugh, nowhere close to the image of the most dangerous dark wizard of all time. I would really have liked Hugh Laurie as Moody instead

@@marianpyter5948 Yeah, Brendan Gleeson came off silly and campy to me. He needed to be more serious and intimidating. Hugh Laurie would probably be able to pull off the personality, but he is a little too handsome. They would have to do a fair amount of makeup to make him look scarred, ugly, and scary. I also hated Michael Gambon and Ralph Fiennes in their roles. Dumbledore seemed like an angry homeless person who shouts at squirrels on the street, and certainly not like the calm and subtle genius he is in the books. And Voldemort was like a ballet teacher who is a little extra.

@j-rey- I love your description of D. and V. Watching a H.P. video, so you'll know about D.'s childhood ( I have only watched F.B.a.W.t.F.T. so don't know how the D. story goes in the prequel series, not being a fan of the idea of D. vs G. being part of the story, it's a F.B. series so it should have been all about Newt. I'd have been fine with a movie of D. and G. just why interfere with the F.B. series?) becoming friends with Grindelwald and knowing who G. really was but not wanting to accept it, until the fight breaks out that hits his sister and not knowing who of the 3 fighters hit her, the trauma of that built up so much he put a Horcrux on to apologise to her? Or his parents? Yes, towards the last of V. he's dancing around, thinking he had killed Harry and gives a terrible laugh too.

I am absolutely shocked and appalled by what I'm hearing from this director in the behind the scenes footage. I had no idea. Makes me appreciate what a small miracle it is that the movie didn't turn out a complete disaster. Its main saving grace is the graveyard scene with Voldemort which I thought was brilliant and the scariest Voldemort ever was on screen.

He nailed the cemetery scene, and diggory's dad screaming out "MY BOY!!!" always gets me. But yeah, so much else was done so wrong. I think this movie was hard-carried by the cast moreso than any other. Although I truly hate what he made poor Michael Gambon do. The dude knew how to play Dumbledore. His performance in six was perfect. Calm, with a soothing presence, always ten steps ahead of everyone else, at once both comforting and mysterious. But under the helm of this director, he's made out like a raving lunatic.

I didn't like Newell's direction either and thought it was a disaster minus Moody's performance, Voldemort's return, Wormtail being a coward, and Mr. Diggory reacting to Cedric's death. I also felt like Rob had charm as Cedric. "Harry, take my body back. Take my body back to my father."

What made me laugh/groan was when Dumbledore said "Barty sent him(his son) to Azkaban. It nearly destroyed him to do it" Dumbledore makes it out that Crouch really didn't want to send his son to prison,while in the books he did it without hesitation.

Think it's more realistic and inspiring in the movie, who willingly and without hesitation sends their son to prison? Barty Crouch loves his son but still knew his responsibility and did it which is a better character trait and action than in the book.

@Digonto Zahid Yeah, he did an amazing movie... completely different from the book to the point that Stephen King himself hated it. Not letting someone who hates a book direct its movie adaptation isn't only because it increases the chances of the movie being garbage, but because it's almost inevitable that that person won't respect the source material and therefore change whatever he wants to make it "better" in his opinion, since if he didn't like the book it's because he thinks there are wrong things in it that he would have no problem changing them.
@DanielGreen0
@DanielGreen0 4 жыл бұрын
@Digonto Zahid This isn't a valid argument. Harry potter is a series of films. First of all, a good director would respect the source material; Newell worked off of his pride, disregarding the tone set by the previous film and not considering the next. The way he talks about this world is generally disappointing, it doesn't sound he even likes it. Besides, Staley Kubrick is unlike any other director, that was uncalled for.

I think that's very true. One of the better moments in the Goblet of Fire book is when Hagrid relays that Dumbledore has been worried lately; it really communicated the uneasiness and anxiety felt through Dumbledore; that he knew Voldermort was going to return, he just didn't know when or how. Fear was a new quality in Dumbledore that we had not seen, and therefore it packs a punch in the 4th book.

I've been complaining about this for fifteen years. David Yates used Gambon a lot better, but you'd still get those Angrydore moments. I dont believe splitting the movie would have made it any better. The problem is that they did not know which parts of the plot are relevant and which not and also addes some completely ridiculous staff like the dragon fight scene which is simply pathetic considering the safety at the tournament was a priority. Also, if you allow the headmaster to shout at the students it shows producers of the movie are not really HP fans, they just dont understand the books. All they cared about was to make money

FPG Matthew I agree fully with you. Amos loves his son so much and Cedric lost his life at a very young age. He was a really great boy who showed all of the priorities of the Hufflepuff house. He was one of my fav characters because he was very kind to Harry. Amos was very proud of him for completing the other tasks. And when he cried ‘That’s my son! That’s my boy!’ it completely broke my heart. It was Cedric’s death and Amos’ reaction that triggered my sensitive side and made me bawl and cry like a baby

It's weird how at the time, when only 3 movies were out, most HP fans hated POA, and when Cuaron was left of HP 4 they cheered. The first 2 movies were so faithful to the books, so the third got a lot of hate for stuff like changing Hagrid's cabin location, casting Michael Gambon as Dumbledore (fans hated that), removing the wizard robes & giving the students muggle clothes, casting Gary Oldman as Sirius Black (nowadays it seems like an obvious choice, but at the time it was highly controversial), and starting the trend of "pretty, beautiful hair, self-conscious, Hermione".

@@myoldvan119 lol you seem offended. And no. I'm pointing out my that my birth country and his birth country definitely brings out a bias that I choose to not hide unlike many might. However, my opinion is not solely based on that. The movie is beautiful. It's my favorite just like how it is many's favorite. Just because I'm Mexican doesn't discredit my opinion or make me about "tribalism". Alfonso Cuaron's work and awards speak for themselves. Example: Roma was a beautiful movie. So damn appealing to the eye. It won award based on solely that. Did I like the movie? Not so much. But there's no denial he makes movies look good regardless of the content. Americans are constantly proud of their fellow Americans succeeding in different areas, the US's culture is all about "Proud to be an American". Does that make them all about tribalism so their opinion doesn't count and is biased, stupid and therefore offends you? Because it should based on a look from your lens. 🤷🏻‍♀️ G O T C H A.

Dumbledore from this film onwards just wasn't the Dumbledore I had pictured from the books - not faulting Gambon as I think he's a great actor- but the book Dumbledore was a calm old man who just gave an aurora of power. He was the only wizard Voldemort was afraid of and this combined with his relaxed nature gave a kind of mystic awe about him which was completely lost in the latter films. The Dumbledore vs Voldemort duel in Oder of the Phoenix is the perfect example, Dumbledore easily handles Voldemort in the books without even looking as if he's trying. In the films however it looks like Dumbledore's at the limit of his power, Voldemort even looks calmer than Dumbledore. This is why when Dumbledore died in the books it was this IMMENSE feeling of hopelessness, how could they survive without Dumbledore? Although this was felt to a degree in the films it had nowhere near the same impact as it did in the books. Richard Harris in the first two films was the book Dumbledore, I wish we could have seen him all the way through the films, RIP.
