A kind advice: please folks, get the book and enjoy the ride. It is hands down one of the best sci-fi thrillers out there, ever. When you then watch this "masterpiece", you can still enjoy the pretty pictures if you like. There is so much left out, so much potential wasted - no wonder Frank walked out on the production team early on.

This tv-show feels more like something from CW, there's lots of bad stuff in there, quality-wise, if you know the book, stay away! The book itself, I listened to the audiobook & audioplay, is faaar surperior, though certainly not perfect, it kinda get's boring at times, but it's still very interesting.

I have to say I stopped watching at the beginning of ep. 5. - compared to what it could have been, compared to what it should have been, given the original, it was like watching a car crash in slo-mo. Simply awful. No wonder the author left the production team early on when he twigged what a bunch of imbeciles did to the story.

@@thomassturm9024 well, it's an adaption made by several public networks and is paid at least in germany by fee payers so the involved ZDF is responsible for a few million public euros and to hit the taste of a most widespread audience. I agree i'm not fine with the ending and with some characters. Netflix or Amazon could've done a better adaption but for now this is the best we could get.

The amount of bitterness in the comments just makes me sad. We're all so ready to bash creative liberties in film for the sake of our head canon/book canon. It's like we think if we make enough hot take comments on KZbin, strangers will justify the bitterness and that somehow the series will get better. In reality, it just lets the studios know not to make anything like this anymore and definitely not to remake the actual movie. No studio wants to lose money from an already hostile fanbase. The end result is that we lose art and we lose something from a fandom. Every fandom is going through it, too. LOTR, SW, X-Men, Marvel, DC, etc.
