I loved the original American Psycho movie but I have read the book twice and I think the film does not do it full justice. I am very interested to see what the new adaptation does because it's extremely dark and much more meaningful than I think the first film adaptation did. Thanks for the review.

Everyone can relate to Bateman on some level. That's what makes him such an effective character.

I'm curious: is this a set or did you find an actual theater to film these in?

Looks like a local theater. Which if you frequently Patron the theater & maybe know the owners, it wouldn't be that outlandish to think they could film there

Edit suggestion. See if there are any open source Huey Luis and the News muzak or open source covers, and throw those in the background over the discussion. Meta irony. I hope you chaps had a good holiday. Kanpai.

I think American Psycho, thematically, does an incredible job highlighting how the lack of accountability inherent in powerful positions can make social reality appear meaningless. A parallel is drawn to the psychotic state of lacking empathy and sympathy for other people, and it begs a question. Did psychotic behaviour elevate Bateman to corporate power, or does having that kind of unaccountable power in some way force the mind into a state totally dissociated from humanity? The titular Psycho seems to even defy an accurate reading on this issue. By experiencing so many dissociated alternate scenarios, his power even seems to isolate him from the audience. In some ways Bateman is more powerful than any of us in the real world.

I didn't like the movie. Kill a dog and I'm out. Maybe it'd grow on me with repeat viewings, but I'm not interested enough for that. I finished it only because I heard so much good about it, but nah. 👎🏼 for me. Bale is a favorite of mine as well, still nah.
