Otaking Mikohani No that was a legit thing confirmed by Carroll Spinney( the person who played Big Bird) Snuffy was never imaginary. Snuffy isn't imaginary, everyone just thought he was because everytime Big Bird tried to introduce him to the town Snuffy always had to leave at the last minute because of his mom or something...but eventually the town got to actually meet Snuffy and finally put Big Bird's aggravation to an end.

Love this one. I miss old school Sesame Street because it wasn't just for kids. Sure there's still humor for adults now but it feels watered down. 70s Sesame Street implied Grover was a player with the girls. Oscar (implied) swore! Your review is wonderful too. Your joy is contagious.

@BainesMkII7 жыл бұрын
I miss the old Sesame Street because the characters were actual individual characters. In modern Sesame Street, you either have shallow caricatures/characters and interchangeable roles. Modern Sesame Street could take a Bert & Ernie script and run it with Oscar & Slimy and no one would bat an eye, while for 70s Sesame Street the same task wouldn't even be conceivable without serious rewrites and maybe even some re-plotting.

The next spring I met someone who would become my girlfriend a year later. The Christmas in between, we talked about our favorite Christmas movies and this was one of hers, so even though I was studying abroad at the time we found Christmas Eve on Sesame Street on KZbin and watched it roughly synchronized. Now we live together and we've watched it every year. Thank you for posting this as a rerun this year. Sesame Street is the one children's show that I can honestly say is timeless because it's an educational show that knows how to entertain all ages but still keeps it kid-appropriate without dumbing it down for them. They knew how to have a show with multiple characters so everyone would have a character they liked (or related to) but not jumble up the plot as it was treated with care. I enjoy Cookie Monster's antics (though I do agree he has a problem,) but I've grown fonder of Oscar the Grouch as an adult because I can understand not being able to get into the Christmas spirit (especially when you miss someone you love who is no longer with you.) They do add new characters, but whenever they're introduced, they always fit right in because Sesame Street Workshop tries to keep the original spirit Jim Henson had. Again, I know this is an older review of yours, but thank you for taking me back to one of the few shows from my childhood that I can honestly say never went downhill or experienced a terrible reboot. One of the reasons I defend Avenue Q when overly religious people bash it for being too vulgar is that it takes things I didn't notice about the show as a kid and satirizes it in a way that makes me go "oh yeah, now I get it" so it gave me a trip down memory lane. If you need a break from reviewing a long round of terrible movies and want another trip down memory lane, if you can manage to find a rare DVD copy of it, "Don't Eat the Pictures" would be a good pick. It isn't a perfect film by any means, but this TV special they made for the Metropolitan Museum of Art has plenty of cute Oscar the Grouch and Grover moments. The downside is that (like many of the other TV specials) it only received a very limited DVD release so it's out of stock for the time being, but if you still have a method of watching VHS tapes, you might be able to find the original videotape at a place that specializes in nostalgia (ie Vintage Stock.) Because it's a Metropolitan Museum special and is educational, there's also a possibility they'd have it available to check out at your local library.

Well, Snuffy was imaginary...at the time. This and ELMO SAVES CHRISTMAS are the best SESAME STREET CHRISTMAS specials. Every other Christmas Special they've done is either mediocre or just plain dumb. One of the worst is A SESAME STREET CHRISTMAS CAROL where Oscar gets visited by Three Christmas Spirits, the first one is a Grouch ghost which totally undercuts the message they're trying to send. The Second is a cheerfully annoying anthropomorphic Christmas Tree, and the last one is a floating robot, and it's segment about what the future's gonna be like has nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the special. Also it was a rehash of A SESAME STREET CHRISTMAS which was done at the same time as CHRISTMAS EVE ON SESAME STREET and has The Adults with some Celebrity Guests trying to convince Oscar he's in a then Modern retelling of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. It's kinda lame
