@dragon297Ай бұрын

@erikbjelke4411Ай бұрын
16:31: "Haha! Sidequests." Even worse. Bethesda, the gaming studio that does the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games, specializes in big, open world games. It's less about the story, and more about the freedom to go and do, interact, influence the various factions and events happening in that particular time and place. It's pretty easy to forget what the "main quest" even is, to be handed an allegedly critical and time-sensitive mission, then spend literally days doing tons of unrelated crap. It's a great strength, and a great weakness, in that "completing" any of the games is a Herculean task. 23:23: In the games, finding water safe to drink is a REAL challenge, most of what's out in the world is heavily irradiated. You can still drink it, but it will increased your Rads, which isn't great. Ghouls are very resistant to, if not immune to radiation, and can even be healed by radiation exposure. So the water in the Ghoul's canteen is probably heavily irradiated, because he doesn't need purified water. So, you *could* look at it as not a purely sadistic move as it appears, but him trying to hint to Lucy because he can't be bothered to spell it out that what he's got is no good for her. Now, there's a bit we'll talk about later that changes this perception somewhat. 25:28: It's even bigger if you know the games. "Vault-Boy," the mascot of the Vaults, has a thumbs-up as one of his iconic poses (he does all kinds of stuff related to various things in the games). Revealing that Cooper Howard was the inspiration for Vault-Boy, that he spawned the face of VaultTec and the Fallout games, was a GIGANTIC "I cannot FRELLING believe it!" moment. And as we see, he's apparently had some kind of falling-out with VaultTec since he did their ad campaigns, which only makes us more curious. . . 28:00: Well, it's the fascinating thing about this setup. Yeah, all three of our main characters want the same thing, but for incompatible reasons. The Ghoul wants to get paid, Maximus wants to take it to the Brotherhood (and now has orders to kill anyone not helping him do that), and Lucy needs to get it to Moldaver to get her Dad back. Putting them together means putting them in conflict, and how that drives the characters and interacts with their immediate and long-term motivations is a critical aspect of the show.
@Stray7Ай бұрын
Well, in the Bethesda games at least, there's no real ticking clock on the main quests -- in 3 you're searching for your father, but that's not a world-ending thing. In 4, you're searching for your son, but there's also no time sensitive elements until later on. It's only 1 and 2 that have real ticking clocks, while New Vegas is a stalemate situation that your character tips the balance of. The "ticking clock but not really" element is more pronounced in the Elder Scrolls games.
@erikbjelke4411Ай бұрын
@@Stray7 True, but a lot of quests you get *feel* like they're time-sensitive. The Railroad needs to get this synth out of the Commonwealth before the Institute tracks them down, the Brotherhood are under fire and taking heavy casualties, a Vault is under attack by Raiders. But you can ignore these for days, even months, and they won't advance until you arrive. Not necessarily a flaw, but an observation.
@nearsightedcyclopes7674Ай бұрын
fun fact about Vault Suits. In game they do block SOME rads. About 15% Just enough to keep you alive till the radiation gets so intense it kills you fast rather then slow.

Redder is better is kinda funny in the context of the show and this episode. Turns out, Jacqui is a bit of a communist. x) 3:08 Keep in mind he was paying alimony in the episode 1 intro. 6:47 Also one of his bullies from episode 1. 16:26 This is indeed a meta joke. Bethesda games are open world titles, notorious for giving the player freedom to explore and consequently throwing them off the beaten path of the main quest / mission by the sheer amount of content outside of it. Add their generally excellent mod support to them and you can end up with hundreds or even thousands of hours of gameplay, without ever finishing the main story. 20:39 This is a reference to the first Fallout game. The main plot was that the water chip breaks and you're send to the surface to find a replacement in time before everyone dies. 22:34 Gulpers in the game actually do not have fingers / human features. They're just big muscular bipedal newts / salamander type creatures.

Re: The Ghoul and the water There's actually an argument to be made that he was being kind to her by throwing the water away. Ghouls can drink irradiated water with no negative effects. Regular people cannot. Why is anyone assuming that he'd have clean water in his canteen? As he says, water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. He doesn't need it, and clean water is expensive. . When Lucy is thirsty enough to lick the water out of a puddle, then she'll be ready to drink the same water as him. Until then, she's better off not drinking because of the radiation. Not to say that it's not cruel to taunt her. But he does have a persona to maintain.

It isn't up against _Arcane_ though. The second (and final) season of _Arcane_ qualifies for a different awards year because its release is so recent; _Fallout_ came out in April so it's already been through most of this year's awards cycle. Which is still a shame, because that meant it was unfortunately having to compete for awards against the masterpiece that is _Shōgun,_ but I'm definitely hoping that future seasons of _Fallout_ will be equally as brilliant as this season was
