@@x21blaze21x Film is a personal experience and if it didn’t work for you there’s not much others can do and that’s okay. For me it captures the perfect brutality of the American frontier west and the influences religion and capitalistic practices had on America. *spoilers* And by the end of the film, capitalism wins by literally beating religion to death. Not to mention the exceptionally evil performance DDL gives. That scene where he calls his adopted son a “bastard from a basket” is just foul. It’s a slow burn kinda movie but it’s a hauntingly portrait of greed and family trauma set in an interesting time in America. I really really like it!

@@x21blaze21x I love it. For me, it still remains the greatest film of the 21st Century to date. So much to appreciate. A compelling film touching on themes of capitalism & religion, it's also a character-study of one of cinema's most fascinating characters in Daniel Plainview. Then there's the phenomenal cinematography, phenomenal score & phenomenal performances to consider. 'Masterpiece' is probably a word that gets thrown around too often nowadays but this is one without a doubt

And if PT is opposed to 4k? Fine, but if that's the case then get this remastered and re-release it on blu ray, because the near 15 year old blu ray is starting to show it's age and I'd love to see what modern colour grading tech can get out of that film, even if limited to blu ray.

@@gunalnepoleon847 yeah the time period was specifically chosen for that reason. I'm fascinated by it because 1) i grew up in a very religious household but became agnostic in my adult years..yet my upbringing nonetheless gave me an appreciation for religious under/overtones in cinema, and 2) I'm fascinated by just how empty yet full of potential civilization was in the late 1800s early 1900s and how somehow someone could look out at a huge swath of land and see the richness (in various forms) of what it could become. In a more general sense, it's interesting to see the film as a metaphor for how religion is a relic now more than ever in the 21st century. Not only are people more aware of the world around them and able to be influenced by conflicting perspectives that challenge religious belief, but also just how dog eat dog one's own financial hustle to survive can be and so many more opportunities to be on that grind that people see their own hustle as the master of their ship, not necessarily some god. People centuries ago were too isolated to question the preachings they were given in plato's cave. Now money is god, in a sense.

The Rock (Disney) 6. Dirty Harry (WB) 7. Once upon a time in america (WB) 8. The Towering Inferno (Fox) 9. Heat (Fox) 10. Titanic (Fox) And a hundred catalogs from Fox. Thank you
@shanerollins37362 жыл бұрын
1. I want that as well. Just remember though that it will be a very dirty, grainy, grimy image. That’s exactly how David Fincher wants it. If you can take that, have fun. I’ll sure like it. However, he has to contend with Disney for that right. 2. All owned by Disney. Why there wasn’t a box set of all five movies shocks me, since they could have easily milked more money out of all of us. 3. I can see this happening, probably by the end of the year for the 35th anniversary of LW1. Let’s just hope the set isn’t a shitstorm like Mad Max was. 4. Shot and finished at 2K, with a 2K DI, not one frame of physical film was shot. Despite this, this is the next project James Cameron is working on. After he finishes Avatar 2-4, he will be bringing Avatar 1 to 4K. When Avatar 1 is done, he moves on to True Lies and The Abyss. 5. Michael Bay’s movies were made for 4K. The Rock, Armageddon, and Pearl Harbor would all be demo discs if they hit 4K. 6. This is inevitably going to happen, though why it hasn’t happened sooner baffles me. Last year was the 50th anniversary of the first movie. 7. This is one of my most wanted 4Ks. Each cut would have to be on two discs, minus the infamous US theatrical cut. Also, considering the 269-minute cut has been found (but they only have the rights to 251 minutes of it), maybe this would be the time to straighten things out. What sucks is that a definitive release would have tons of discs and be expensive, and a normally priced release would lack important content. 8. Unsure who owns this, since it was a coproduction between WB and Fox. I believe Fox was the bigger owner, but don’t quote me. 9. Regency’s movies are all f’ed up right now. If Heat finally hits 4K, it better be the unedited version from the 90s, since every release it seems that Michael Mann is slowly changing more and more of the movie. 10. This falls somewhere after True Lies and The Abyss on JC’s to-do list. Considering there were some edits made during the 3D conversion, I’m a little worried about what a Titanic 4K would look like.

Ben-Hur and The Sound Of Music were done at 8K across the board, so all they need is a 4K DI, an HDR pass, and a Dolby Vision pass and they’ll be set. Hopefully Ben-Hur opens the door for the rest of the Ultra-Panavision movies to hit 4K, since with the exception of Ben-Hur they all have bad Blu-rays or no Blu-rays. West Side Story needs a brand new restoration. The last one was supposedly at 4K but it looks really weird. The sound is lifeless as well. And despite the negative and the original six-track mix surviving, Fox officially declared both lost. They would have to start at square one with West Side Story. As for Meet Me In St. Louis, there’s a lot of special features lag from the previous VHS, laserdisc, CD, and DVD releases that they should fix. Also, the last Blu-ray only had a surround mix (either 5.0 or 5.1) and no mono mix, which seriously needs to be fixed on all movie releases. At least the surround mix is a true surround mix made from the original stems, as opposed to the faux surround mix on other films (The Wizard Of Oz, Gone With The Wind, all the Kubrick movies, etc), but it’s still annoying.

Aside from films that are rumored to be getting 4K releases and it seems likely (i.e. Ben-Hur 1959), I think There Will Be Blood would be a very fitting choice for the 4K format. And maybe some Coen Brothers films such as Fargo and No Country for Old Men. Also, I think some of the other films most in need of the 4K treatment are films where the existing Blu Ray transfer is subpar and is in need of an upgrade (such as Master and Commander, though as a Fox film that is most likely not happening. So you can add classic Fox films to this list too I suppose)
@SamLovesMovies252 жыл бұрын
Oh, I forgot Pink Floyd's The Wall! The ONLY HD presentation the film has ever had was on some kind of TV broadcast or something years ago, and the old DVD still looks like garbage. The only decent option for watching the film is a pirated copy of said broadcast, but an official high quality, properly remastered release would be awesome (I would even be happy with a Blu Ray)! Similar thing for True Lies (The Abyss has actually been worked on a 4K master, according to Cameron, but nothing about True Lies).

Baraka and Samsara were shot on 65mm. Baraka was scanned at 8K and restored in HD (this was back in 2008 and the systems were not quite powerful enough to handle 4K all the way through, let alone 8K). Samsara was first edited using the 4K scans of the OCN and then, once the edit was finalised, the appropriate sections of the negative were then scanned at 8K and then mastered at 4K for theatrical distribution.
@WhiteEnglish2 жыл бұрын
I agree they look good but nothing amazing they need an upgrade nowhere near on par with David Attenborough 4K documentaries
@DerekPower2 жыл бұрын
@@WhiteEnglish I was just clarifying what was done for both films as there were some inaccuracies made describing the production and post-production. But yes, I absolutely want to see this in 4K Blu given the increased latitude you get in the format. Samsara should be easier to do because you should have a 4K master all ready to go (for the most part). Baraka could use a revisit, depending if those original 8K scans are still around and accessible. Whether those are used or a fresh scans can be made, then you do restoration and colour work in 4K. Also the soundtrack would be fantastic using Dolby Atmos and I think Michael Stearns would love to oversee that process 😁

The film that I've always assumed and wanted to get a 4k is The Fly (1986), the blu-ray is so old and outdated and doesn't look good at all and I've been waiting for a 4k of that for years. A 4k release of the original 1958 film would also be fantastic. A 4k release of Stargate (1994) would probably be amazing being an MGM title maybe it will happen. The Omen actually got a 4k restoration and remaster by Shout Factory in the Omen Collection, but it was released on 1080p Blu-ray, so they have a 4k transfer for it. Saw Franchise on 4k would be great as well as only the original and the two most recent entries have gotten them.

As far as I've understood Baraka was shot on 65mm film; this was in 1992. It was then, when the technology was available, scanned in 8k from those 65mm film prints. I just read up on Samsara as well, and even that (shot in 2011) was filmed on 70mm (65mm) film, and then put on a 4k intermediate. So neither film was shot digitally, but both were shot on large format FILM-cameras, then transferred to 8k and 4k, respectively. I could not agree more about the German Expressionist films being put on 4k!!!

@h4tch3tt742 жыл бұрын
The one thing about Tron Legacy outside of Disney that concerns me for a 4k release is the movies was mostly CG. That means most of the shots likely have 2k graphics for the VFX and settings. Plus the whole deaging deal on Jeff bridges which some people think looks bad might not hold up under 4k detail. The other issue is Daft Punk who did the soundtrack are no longer together. They might not want to work on upgrading the audio for a 4k release or there could be issues getting the rights for that. I'd love to see a quality Tron Legacy 4k release if not solely for an HDR and audio update but I'm not holding my breath.
@creategreatness88232 жыл бұрын
Would love to get some kind of "Special Edition" of Tron Legacy where they upgrade/enhance via deepfake the tech used on young Jeff Bridges. I know it would be a pretty extensive and expensive task...but it would be cool. Or at LEAST do it on the scenes meant to actually be young Flynn himself in flashbacks. It would actually be an interesting dynamic to keep Clu sort of 'artificial' looking since he is an AI program.

Many of the titles I would most like to see on 4K have already been covered in the video and the comments. One that's top of mind for me is Casablanca. Another classic that really needs a 4K upgrade is MASH - but since that's a Fox title, it seems unlikely. 😢 Chinatown also deserves a 4K release, although there may be some reluctance these days because it's a Roman Polanski film. The same goes for early Woody Allen films, particularly Love and Death and Bananas. I hope the reports about Paul Thomas Anderson are wrong and his titles make it to 4K. I would particularly like to own Boogie Nights and Magnolia on 4K. I hope we continue to see 4K upgrades of the various giallo classics. The ones I would most like to see include Blood and Black Lace, The Beyond and maybe Tenebrae (I haven't seen Tenebrae but it comes highly recommended).
