"Alien," directed by Ridley Scott and released in 1979, is a seminal science fiction horror film that has left an indelible mark on both genres. The film stars Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, a warrant officer on the commercial space tug Nostromo. The plot revolves around the crew's encounter with a deadly extraterrestrial organism after investigating a distress signal on a desolate planet.
The movie is renowned for its atmospheric tension, groundbreaking special effects, and the iconic design of the titular alien by artist H.R. Giger. "Alien" blends sci-fi and horror elements seamlessly, creating a claustrophobic and terrifying experience that explores themes of isolation, survival, and the unknown.
Sigourney Weaver's performance established Ripley as a powerful and enduring female protagonist, paving the way for strong women in action and sci-fi films. "Alien" not only achieved commercial success but also garnered critical acclaim, earning an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and spawning a successful franchise, including sequels, prequels, and crossovers.
Overall, "Alien" remains a landmark film, celebrated for its innovation, suspenseful storytelling, and cultural impact, influencing countless movies and inspiring a dedicated fan base.

Alien 1979 upscaled to 4K from the Blu-ray version, with no DNR used. Edited and color graded in HDR and Dolby Vision. Although KZbin currently doesn't support Dolby Vision, the video is HDR compatible. If KZbin ever supports Dolby Vision in the future, this video should play in Dolby Vision as intended. - Watch in HDR for best results! Watching this in SDR may produce colour inaccuracies due to the way KZbin converts HDR to SDR. My channel is not monetizing. For more movies to make To paypal.me/DCorthouts?country.... The “sun” can’t be coming up in 20 minutes. A star, some other named or unnamed,ed star could be, but not the sun. An android should know that…

Immediately clear in the movie that most all the crew complains about everything, all the time, w nothing but venal interests, barely doing there jobs. I suppose Ridley likes that kind of thing, fine. But it doesn’t work w this enormously complex and capable space faring fleet. People like that don’t build worlds w space travel like that. Like finding some jungle fishing village somewhere that builds and services private jets. Stupid.

You're assuming a lot of things here, without trying to consider other possibilities. Imagine at this point in time that spaceships are as common as cars. Do you look back at a 1986 Cadillac and say it's complex? These people are most likely as trained as everyone else in using a ship. The ship is clearly an old one, as there are signs of wear everywhere. It's used as a tug to tow oil around. These people are bottom of the rung, working class types. Instead of being condescending and calling it stupid, as if you know better than Ridley and O'Bannon, try to think it through more.

@@georgekitchen7046 yes I agree most of the crew Ridley portrays are working class types abused by Big Co. I’m an engineer, and on this subject I do know more than Ridley, but it doesn’t matter. It’s common sense for those who build gear. Our Spacecraft complexity is a couple orders more complicated than aircraft, as aircraft are to cars. Interstellar spacecraft will several orders of mag more complex than our spacecraft. That’s the level of society it takes to build/operate these things, or they won’t happen. There’s no going back to log rafts to cross oceans, ever. You might as well have said imagine spaceships in Ripley time are as common as horses, and this one is like an old horse. But I think you know that’s a gross oversimplification, as are old cars. Gene Roddenberry got it about right w Star Trek. Ridley likes his dystopian everything run by the oppressed, fine, but it’s not going to the stars.

@@Nill757 "Ridley likes his dystopian everything run by the oppressed, fine, but it’s not going to the stars." That's what people 200 years ago might have said about big oil tankers and freighters. If you've spent any time on the docks, you know that this is exactly how union/versus management attitudes are, and the condition most of the ships are in.

@@seikibrian8641 Take a look around the world and at history. The king and peasants model doesn’t get anywhere. They stay stuck w horse and buggy. If you want airplanes, mass produced autos, telephones, computers, etc, that required modern freer western societies w an educated competent middle class that had a stake in the things they built. Still lots of flaws, but czar and peasants model would be shoveling dung forever and not building spaceships.
