While Cinderella is heavily portrayed by Disney, it was originally apart of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Disney has made a lot of adaptations of many of Grimm’s Fairy Tales actually and the originals are SOOOOO much darker

Just so you know, Grimm's Cinderella is not the original fairy tale, but it's the most known version and Disney took inspiration from that. But the original Cinderella is from "Lo cunto de li cunti" by Gianbattista Basile, a neapolitan writer who wrote a book of fairy tales in 1634. He also wrote "Sole, Luna e Talia" which we know now as Sleeping beauty because Perrault rewrote this story. And yes, they where so much darker than modern versions of this story, just like Grimm's version.

Heck yeah!!! Perfect Man is almost a chiefs kiss movie. The music, the realty of single moms and their kids, some wasn’t as real life accurate but I swear the way Hilary’s character talked to her mom at points was scary similar to the way I am with my mom. Oh and the quote about the moon has stayed with me ever since watching it.

It got past Disney because it never belonged to Disney in the first place. I always have trouble remembering, but fairly certain it was the Grimm brothers. If not them, some French person - Charles Perrault, I think. Edit: I was wrong. The first literary variant was written by the Italian Giambattista Basile, but the earliest story of any Cinderella was in Greece between 7 BC and 23 AD.

This movie was one of my all-time favorites growing up. I've always loved Hillary Duff. This is still a guilty pleasure for me, I like to put it on if I'm home sick or just feel like watching something fun and nostalgic. BEST, worst step-mom EVER, she is SOO funny in this. I heard that she kept adlibbing her lines, and would keep saying different funny things, so they kept having to stop because everyone was laughing.

And when she mentions about wearing a mask in the diner talking to Chad Michael Murray....if you hear music in background it is “make you feel my love” - the song Adele covered that made her famous. the version of cinderella disney based theirs off of was originally a brothers grimm story, which disney doesn’t have the rights to so the cinderella story itself is free for anyone to make interpretations of. most of the older disney movies were based off of old stories, a lot of them were brothers grimm i believe. a fun fact about it: in the original, the step sisters cut off their toes in an attempt to fit into the shoe.

Cinderella is it's on fairy tale, there is the grimm version and an Egyptian version that I am pretty sure dates back to the BC Era, and there are plenty of others that are before Disney

That school had over 3,500 kids with just 4 grades? That's almost 900 students per grade! Their graduations must take all day and the yearbooks would be divided by volumes like encyclopedias! My high school had less than 1,000 students, divided by 6 grades-7th-12th grade, so each class had only around 130+ students

Much to Disney's chagrin, they don't own the rights to Cinderella, as it is an European Fairytale that's as old as dirt, so technically it is free domain. As long as the costumes and plot beat's aren't too similar to the unique elements of the Disney versions, ie costume design, names for characters other than Cinderella, etc, any studio can adapt the story as many times as they want. Hell, Paramount made that awkward Cinderella movie just last year. This has been boring copyright trivia with Always the Foreigner.

Thats why Disney did fairytales since they did not have to pay copyrights. I love Cinderella even further because there are literally dozens of children books based on the storyline. Hilarious one is where they switch the genders and it's about a cowboy instead: Bubba the Cowboy Prince

I know this was years ago, but you should check out the other Cinderella Stories. It’s kind of like a trilogy that do not interconnect. Another Cinderella Story A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song Also Sydney White is a Snow White remake that you will LOVE! Amanda Bynes is in it and it is hilarious.

Forgive me if anyone else has said any of the following, but I can’t go through every comment, and I am in a sharing mood. Cinderella is not created by Disney, just their version of it. I think it was originally a Grimm fairytale, but I could totally be wrong there. I do know that the original story of Cinderella was quite a bit darker than Disney’s clean washed version. Such as, when the two stepsisters tried on the shoe, one cut off part of her heel and another cut off her big toe, I believe it was. Both so the shoe would fit. So, by the time Cinderella finally tried the shoe on, it was soaked in blood. BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES, eh, Cindy? (Pretty sure other macabre stuff happened in the story too, but it’s been a long ass time since I read it.) By the way, I do love your channel and watching your commentaries, you’re quite an amusing ray of sunshine through each of them, and I enjoy watching them. You’re one of my favorites for commentaries. 😁💖
